The students at OLOL are given the opportunity to take part in a range of Extra-Curricular activities, both in and out of school time.

The Garden Club meets at lunch time, where interested students work with Miss Jackson around the school to improve, care for, plant and nurture our gardens.

Some projects our Garden Club have already enjoyed include:

  • planting seeds, trees and other plants
  • making cuttings
  • composting
  • weeding, mulching, sweeping
  • watering
  • recycling.

We work with ABC Music Group to arrange individual instrumental lessons for students. The goal of ABC’s instrumental opportunities is to provide high quality and affordable music lessons in a fun learning environment, whilst developing a strong musical foundation for students.

We are currently running piano and guitar lessons at OLOL but depending on demand other instruments would also be available. For more information or to enrol your child, please see their website:

Students in Year 2 to 6 are all welcome to attend Choir. It is a program which engages students in a different way to the classroom program and offers positive experiences which raise self-esteem. There are many opportunities for performance which contributes to the development of a sense of personal accomplishment and cultivates a positive self-image. Singing is one of the most important music activities in schools as recognised by educators and musicians alike.

Over the years, many opportunities to perform have been established including at assemblies and for school events such as the School Concert and Carols Night. The students also have the opportunity to perform at aged care facilities over the year. Rehearsals take place each week.

Hip hop

OLOL Layer Boy Star

Hip Hop is a dance style that evolved from a variety of forms including jazz, rock, tap and American and Latino music. Hip Hop is a very energetic form of dancing and dance steps require skill and experience to perfect. Dancers practise a lot in order to master basic steps and movements that appear simple when performed.

OLOL currently runs Hip Hop lessons twice a week, with skills taught according to the child’s ability. The junior group meets 3.45 p.m. to 4.45 p.m. on Thursdays and the senior level meets 3.45 p.m. to 4.45 p.m. on Wednesdays. The Hip Hop troupes not only perform as part of in-school exhibitions, e.g. School Discos, but also perform at community events such as Sounds of Stonnington.

Chess is an engaging activity that helps develop students' critical thinking skills. Evidence shows that chess improves problem solving, decision making and lateral thinking. Chess club runs at lunchtimes once a week.
