Although happy, as expected, we have had to attend to some playground issues. It's a very different environment being with 20+ others and running free than being cooped up in a house with way fewer people to contend with than that.
As part of the initiatives, we have put in place to support the students I have held level discussions with every level. We covered such topics as; including others in games, addressing each other respectfully, not trading or selling Ooshies, shopkins, footy cards, Ugio cards, Beyblades, or ANYTHING at all.
To begin this in-depth and serious discussion I was reiterating the overriding tenants of the New Testament, namely 'Treat others as you would be treated' and 'Love one another as I have loved you'. So I asked the group of Foundation/Ones what Jesus' commandments or rules were. The first answer I received was "Keep your hand's feet and objects to yourself."
We were, as I said, expecting some degree of unsettled behaviour while we all settled back into the routine of school and overall I think we're doing a great job. We are altering the staggered timing a bit. It is now 3.20 pm for F - 2 and the usual 3.30 pm for years 3 - 6.
Have a great week,
Francine
Change to Infant Staggered Pick-Up Time
Please note the pick-up time for Foundation - Year 2 will now take place at 3.20pm not 3.15pm. This is a credit to you all for picking your child up so promptly and clearing the exits immediately.
END OF DAY STAGGERED PICK-UP TIME FOR FOUNDATION - YEAR 2 FROM FRIDAY 6TH NOVEMBER IS 3.20PM.
This will be a change for us as it means we will be in summer uniform, not winter uniform. As per the uniform code, girls are to wear white socks and boys are to wear navy socks. ALL students must be wearing black school shoes. Now I understand many students are currently wearing sneakers because they have grown out of their school shoes and it has been difficult to purchase new shoes. I also understand the hesitation to buy shoes so close to the summer holidays. So I suggest the children who have grown out of shoes bring them to school and squeeze into the for the few minutes that the photo takes to be shot and then pop back into their sneakers. You may like to borrow some or simply buy them - up to you but EVERY CHILD IS TO BE IN BLACK SCHOOL SHOES FOR THE PHOTOS!
The other aspect is that as this will take place so late in the year you won't actually receive the photos until the beginning of 2021. I understand this is not ideal but I know you will understand why this is the case. Also please remember that it is not compulsory to buy the photos. It is merely an offer. If like many of our graduates the student has left the school we will send the photos to your last address.
As Miss Gabriel said, "How great that we get photos in ... feels like a real year!"
An alumnus of OLOL is on her way to achieving great things! Chelsea LeHunt has been elected Vice School Captain of the newly amalgamated CBC/PCW Catholic Secondary College. Chelsea always had demonstrated leadership potential and was a great leader in her time with us at OLOL. We wholeheartedly congratulate Chelsea and know that her school has made a great choice in electing her to that very important role.
OLOL does not have a lost property box because after 30+ years in the school scene I know that lost property boxes become junk bins and old sandwich depositories and ultimately attract pests of a rodent nature. At OLOL we have a policy that if you name your belongings they will be returned to you. Unnamed items are either sent to the Opp shop or binned depending on their condition.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE name EVERYTHING that comes into school.
