As we all know a school is just a building. Having no students here was just downright depressing. The life, happiness, and joy that the return of the junior grades has brought has been like Spring returning here at OLOL. (A metaphorical Spring, of course, sadly we have a lot of Winter to go before actual Spring).
So you can imagine our excitement at the near-return of years 3 - 6! Although our year two's have stepped up marvelously, a school needs its leaders. It is with much anticipation that we look forward to welcoming back our Year 3 - 6 students after the long weekend on Tuesday!
I am leaving our parent-teacher interview survey in for one more week. The results so far show that everyone understands our approach; Although we will offer a phone interview for any parent who wishes it, parent-teacher interviews at this moment would be a lot of work for very little gain. You are welcome to make an appointment during term three with your classroom teacher to discuss your child's progress. That way the teacher will have far more information and evidence to discuss with you.
I do hope you all have a lovely long weekend and I look forward to seeing EVERYBODY on Tuesday.

Our whole-school Wellbeing Week was a wonderful opportunity for families to engage in a range of Wellbeing activities. These tasks aimed to consolidate students' understanding of our Wellbeing themes: Gratitude, Empathy Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy which are also explicitly taught in our Resilience Project curriuclum.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the activities which had a large, positive impact on their families and neighbourhoods. We thought it was important to document all of this wonderful learning which you can see in the video below.
This semester's report will reflect what we know from Term One and what evidence we have from Term Two. By law, we also have to offer some form of parent-teacher interview with the semester one reports. As we still cannot meet for a face to face meeting we will offer a phone conversation between you and your teacher. Having said that - I actually ask that you don't take up the offer at this time. The teachers as you know have had an exhausting term and at the moment you have a very good idea about both your child's academic progress and their work habits. Our wonderful staff are always happy to speak about your child's progress, but it might be more valuable catching up at some point in term three when there is more evidence of exactly where your child is at. We need to ask for your input into what we do with this situation. If you feel you would absolutely need to schedule a phone call with your classroom teacher, please complete the form below. We will use this feedback to guide our next steps.
Reconciliation Week - 27th May - 2nd June
Reconciliation Prayer
Holy Father, God of Love,
You are the Creator of all things.
We acknowledge the pain and shame of our history and the sufferings of Our peoples, and we ask your forgiveness.
We thank you for the survival of Indigenous cultures.
Our hope is in you because you gave your Son Jesus to reconcile the world to you.
We pray for your strength and grace to forgive, accept and love one another, as you love us and forgive and accept us in the sacrifice of your Son.
Give us the courage to accept the realities of our history so that we may build a better future for our Nation.
Teach us to respect all cultures.
Teach us to care for our land and waters.
Help us to share justly the resources of this land. Help us to bring about spiritual and social change to improve the quality of life for all groups in our communities, especially the disadvantaged.
Help young people to find true dignity and self-esteem by your Spirit.
May your power and love be the foundations on which we build our families, our communities and our Nation,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
