In last night's zoom with Hugh from the Resilience project he mentioned that we elicit far more thought if at the end of the day we ask ourselves 'What three things went well today?' rather than 'What three things are we grateful for?' I have been thinking about this all day. For those of you who were able to join us last night, I hope you found it valuable. For those of you who missed it, I will link the webpage which in turn can point you to various resources you may find supportive including his new book and Podcasts.
So back to 'What three things went well for me today?'
Well, I had a great school tour with a lovely 'potential' family, I've had two extremely good coffees and I did the best lunch duty of my life talking with the happiest children in the world. They are just hysterical. One thing I've noticed since their return is how often I'm called Francine. I don't actually care because it is very natural and not at all bold, I suspect that I've been mentioned in dispatches over the last couple of months, and therefore it is the go-to term. There are even instances of other teachers being called Francine!
I mentioned I had a great school tour and it was great because the Year Twos were performing exemplary cleaning and sanitising of their tables, the Years One and Foundation had been making sensational Autumn mandalas and so their rooms were rife with leaves and flowers and nuts and twigs, the sun was shining, we had staff everywhere assessing our returned students. Then we walked in on a zoom session between Mr. Podbury and the gorgeous Lily and interrupted and had a chat with her and the whole thing could not have been more perfect if we had planned it! Suffice to say 'What went well today?' EVERYTHING!!
The Resilience Project Feedback Survey
Please complete the survey below even if you were unable to attend the session.
Thank you to our SRC for developing the survey questions. We appreciate your feedback.
We were absolutely BLOWN AWAY with the number of entries our 'Spirit of OLOL' Construction Competition garnered. It was extraordinary and the constructions themselves were astronomical! Sadly we can have only one winner, and the winner is ...
CONGRATULATIONS TO MIA McMEEKIN!!!
Your boat was truly spectacular and collected the most staff votes! Well done! Mia wins the fabulous Lego Prize.
This weeks Honourable Mentions go to Franklin Brown, Isla and Liam Moylan, Ethan and Mila Sternberg and Aria Yiannaros.
Before you look at all the wonderful constructions we need to thank our student leaders who came up with the ideas to keep the 'spirit' of OLOL alive and well during isolation. So far we have had the baking competition, the construction and on Monday our leaders will announce our MAJOR and final competition and prizes so keep your eye peeled!
The staff have absolutely loved looking through all the beautiful photos from Wellbeing Week and hearing stories from the children about how enjoyable and valuable their experience was.
This is a final call for Wellbeing Week photos to please be sent to Mr McAlister by tomorrow afternoon. Please email these to Mr Mac even if you have uploaded them to Seesaw.
This semester's report will reflect what we know from Term One and what evidence we have from Term Two. By law, we also have to offer some form of parent-teacher interview with the semester one reports. As we still cannot meet for a face to face meeting we will offer a phone conversation between you and your teacher. Having said that - I actually ask that you don't take up the offer at this time. The teachers as you know have had an exhausting term and at the moment you have a very good idea about both your child's academic progress and their work habits. Our wonderful staff are always happy to speak about your child's progress, but it might be more valuable catching up at some point in term three when there is more evidence of exactly where your child is at. We need to ask for your input into what we do with this situation. If you feel you would absolutely need to schedule a phone call with your classroom teacher, please complete the form below. We will use this feedback to guide our next steps.
Illness During Changed Schooling Conditions
So far we have not had an issue at all with this - as students are so delighted to be back - but we know you will understand this change of practice going forward. This is especially true of the winter flu season that we now face. I know picking students up will present an inconvenience to some of you - but we are acting under strict governmental guidelines. Thank you for your understanding.
Commencing next week, Classroom Cuisine will be available on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for the remainder of Term 2.
