Dear Parents,
Over the past fortnight, our school has been filled with excitement and joyous students. Our students have fully embraced the offerings of our new Wellbeing Hub, actively engaging in a variety of multicultural activities during our Multicultural Day last Friday and excelling in school sporting events, setting personal bests. It's been wonderful to witness the enthusiastic participation of all our students in everything OLOL has to offer.
Looking ahead, our first Open Day is scheduled for March 20th. The most effective marketing for our school is through word of mouth. I kindly ask you to share our Open Day dates with any friends or family members who may be considering sending their children to our school in the future, regardless of the year. Our Open Day flyer is available below. Thank you for your support in increasing enrolments at OLOL.
Two weeks ago, I had the privilege of joining 24 other new Catholic Education principals in a commissioning mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, followed by an induction program at the Catholic Leadership Centre. Accompanied by our principal consultants, our Southern Region Manager Deb Egan and Executive Director, Dr. Edward Simons (pictured), we reaffirmed our commitment to delivering quality education to all our students.
Recently, the Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools unveiled its MACS 2030 vision for the future, encompassing the MACS Instructional Framework. This marks an exciting milestone for our system as we work towards ensuring instructional consistency across all Catholic schools. More information can be found by clicking here.
Our students have been thoroughly enjoying the new Library and Wellbeing Hub. During each recess and lunch, we welcome up to 40 students who utilise the peaceful space to read, engage in mindfulness activities, or enjoy a quiet game with friends. Our Literacy and Wellbeing Leaders have been actively assisting, even creating their own instructional video for the library, which you can view here.
Finally, an annual discussion arises both at the School Advisory and community levels regarding the continuation of enrolment at Our Lady of Lourdes beyond Year 4. The entire staff at OLOL takes pride in delivering a quality, enriching educational experience for all students, spanning from Prep to Year 6. Witnessing our students' growth and development over this period brings us immense joy, particularly as we celebrate their graduation at the end of Year 6. I encourage all OLOL families to contemplate remaining with us and graduating alongside their peers at the end of Year 6.
If concerns about securing a place in Year 7 are a cause for hesitation, rest assured; I've never encountered anyone being denied a place when an early offer was on the table. If it is for academic reasons, our NAPLAN results are excellent and identify how strong our learning programs are. In Years 5 and 6, students benefit from a plethora of leadership opportunities, school camps, and special events like the St. Patrick’s Day Mass, all of which foster self-confidence and enable them to leave their mark on our school.
For those contemplating exiting at the conclusion of Year 4, I urge you to come and meet with me, not to change your decision, but to gather feedback and develop strategies for positive change at Our Lady of Lourdes School.
Together, we can achieve great things. Thank you for your continued support and dedication.

OLOL Library and Wellbeing Hub Grand Opening
Thank you to everyone who attended the grand opening of our Library and Wellbeing Hub. It was wonderful to witness the presence of numerous parents at the event. Special thanks to Fr Hayes for blessing our new space, and to all those who tirelessly contributed behind the scenes to bring this vision to fruition. The collaboration between MACS, Odyssey Architecture, and Alchemy Construct was instrumental in making this project a success, and I am appreciative of their efforts throughout the entire process. Our students are now enjoying the newfound space during recess and lunch, and I trust they are finding joy in reading their library books at home.
Key dates for the Easter Raffle are:
Monday, 18th March – Final Day for Easter egg donation
Monday, 18th March – Final Day for the return of raffle tickets

Congratulations to Team OLOL on their efforts at the Beachside Swimming Carnival. The carnival is always a tough challenge with schools across the Beachside District and quality competition in every race. Well done to Stella, Flick, Maya, Frankie, Max, Dan, Alfie and Freddie on their efforts. They represented themselves, OLOL and the Holt District in the best possible way and should be proud of themselves.
Quotes from the swimmers
'We did our best against tough competition' - Flick
'We had a lot of fun and worked as a team to achieve the best results we could' - Stella
We invite you to share your experiences with our local community by writing a Google review. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us continue to provide the best possible education and support for our students. Whether it's praising our dedicated teachers, highlighting memorable events, or expressing your overall satisfaction, your words make a difference. Thank you for taking the time to support us and share your thoughts.
On Thursday 28th March we will celebrate the end of Term One with an Easter Parade and the drawing of the annual Easter Egg Raffle.
Students may dress up as anything Easter related (a chick, bunny, Easter egg) or decorate their own Easter bonnet or even just wear bunny ears! There will be an Easter Parade at 9:15am.
Students can wear their sports uniform and house colours (red, green or gold) on the day. We would love to see all the students decked out head to toe in their house colours, so get out the face paint, ribbons, t-shirts, hats, shorts and sweatbands and dress them up to support their team! If a child is unsure of their house colour, please have them ask their classroom teacher.
As with all events, we will need assistance with both setup and marshalling. If you are able to assist with setup it will be from 8:30 am - 9:00 am and marshalls will be required from 9:30 am - 11:00 am. We will need to transport equipment to the park, so if you have a van/ute available, please let me know as that makes things a lot easier.
We still require more parent helpers, if you are able to assist, please complete the form - OLOL Cross Country Parent Helpers 2024.
Thank you!
Mr Podbury
Please be reminded that OLOL has several students with allergies and anaphylaxis reactions to a variety of nuts and therefore we ask that you refrain from packing any items containing nuts (this includes Nutella, peanut butter, nut and muesli bars) so that our school is safe for these children. We thank you for your vigilance in this matter.
The Second Hand Uniform Shop will open on Friday 22 March from 8.30am - 9.00am for anyone who would like to purchase second hand winter uniform.
Every year the Alliance Française organises the French Film Festival. They run a selection of French movies, recent and vintage, that can be watched in several cinemas across Melbourne (and they are subtitled!).
Congratulations to all the Student of the Week Award winners from Week 5. These students exemplified the value of; Doing My Best.
