Dear Parents,
As the end of the year is closing in quickly, there are a number of fun and exciting events happening that I look forward to sharing with you, such as Carols and Disco, Year 6 Graduation and Whole School Fun Days. Please make sure you are up to date with our calendar in the Szapp as we would hate for you to miss out on all the fun!
Speaking of events, this Sunday we will be hosting our final Whole School Mass for 2023. At the mass we will welcome out new Prep 2024 families and the current Prep and Year 1 families will be hosting morning tea afterwards. We look forward to seeing ALL our wonderful OLOL families and friends at our 11:15 am Mass on Sunday.
This year we have a few staffing changing ahead of the 2024 school year. As new staff come in it's sad to say goodbye and goodluck to others. Bernie Walsh will be leaving us at the end of the year as she has secured a classroom teaching position at Donvale Christian College. We wish Bernie all the best in her new role. Eimear Mamalis will be going on maternity leave and we wish her all the best in welcoming a new baby into her family in 2024. Finally, we have Tanya Murphy who has decided on taking a gap year to treak through Europe next year. We wish all three all the best for 2024 and look forward to welcoming Tanya and Eimear back in 2025. In great news, we welcome back Alison March who has been on maternity leave this year and will be taking on a new role at OLOL in 2024 as our Performing Arts Teacher. We are very much looking forward to having her back with us again. We welcome Joseph Ayton-Delaney who is graduate teacher from ACU, Bridget Ardley from St Jude's, Langwarrin and Renée Griffin from St Anthony's, Alphington to our OLOL staff for 2024. You can view our staff and year allocation below.
On Tuesday evening we held our first 2024 P & F meeting. Already I am excited with what is to come as the new team came up with some great ideas to bring our school community together in 2024. I encourage you to get involved by putting your names down on rosters and speaking with members of our P&F on how you can get involved. A sneak peek of some things to come is a colour run, welcome drinks evening and park gatherings.
Finally, we have broken concrete and the new OLOL Library is under way! Thank you to the team at Alchemy Construct for making such progress in such little time. They have assured me they will power through and get this completed as quickly as possible.
Next Tuesday Patrick Hogan is set to take over the school as our principal for the day. He has many fun things installed including a fancy dress of your favourite era (80's, 90's, 00s). Stay tuned to see what unfolds.
Together, we can achieve great things. Thank you for your continued support and dedication.

Bake Sale - Thursday 7th December
On Thursday 7th December, we will be having a bake sale. Six girls from our choir recently went on an excursion to the MacKillop Family Services Centre in South Melbourne and were inspired by what they’re doing to change our community for the better.
We came up with the idea to host a bake sale to raise money for MacKillop Family Services. We are asking everyone to bring no more than five dollars so that they can not only indulge in something yummy but help people who really need it. The bake sale will happen at lunchtime and everyone is encouraged to bring something in. Keep in mind that these treats must be nut free. We would also appreciate some gluten free, sugar free and/or dairy free options, to make sure that everyone has a chance to enjoy something yummy.
If you have made something to bring, drop it off in the morning or during the day (please make sure it has been dropped off by 12:45). Please leave a note saying what you have brought, and also if it is dairy, gluten or sugar free.
Allegra, Felicity, Juliette, Leila, Rose and Stella
Night Before Christmas Pyjama Day
On Thursday 7th December OLOL will celebrate an Aussie Christmas. This will kick off OLOL get into the Christmas spirit with lots of fun and exciting activities on the day.
Students and staff are encouraged to dress up in a Christmas costume or in their pyjamas for a day of fun and activities. There will even be a surprise guest as well as special treats on the day!
Prep to Year 5 Cinema Excursion
In celebration of another great academic year, all students from Prep to Year 5 will be going on an exciting cinema outing to watch Disney's movie 'Wish'.
Our very own screening for the movie will be on Wednesday, 13th December (the same day as Year 6 Fun Day Out).
Please read all information on the permission form and submit before Friday, 8th December.
We would like to acknowledge the help of Lisa Collinson for arranging this event for OLOL.

Teaching Staff Class Allocations for 2024
We have just finished allocating students to their 2024 classrooms and teachers.
We take many things into account including:
- The children all choose five friends that they would like to be with and we make sure they have at least one and sometimes two 'chosen friends'
- We look at the teachers they have had previously, and although we like to change teachers so the students get to experience multiple teaching styles and relationships, it is sometimes in the child's interest that the child retain the same teacher.
We endeavor to ensure our classrooms are as balanced as we can in the following areas:
- gender
- academic needs
- social and emotional needs
- year levels.
As you can appreciate, this is no small task but the proof of our deliberations is shown in the successful learning program we are running at OLOL.
If you do have any concerns or questions please do not hesitate to get in contact.A big thank you to ALL the parents and students for their support of the Year 5 & 6 Market Place! It was a fantastic project with so much learning for the entrepreneurial leaders of the future!
To say thank you to the students, the Year 5 & 6 class will be buying everyone in the school a little treat to enjoy next Monday!
Thank you again!
Year 5 & 6
A BIG thank you to all students and families for supporting the 'Fun in the Sun' fundraiser. As a school, we raised over $700 which is another fantastic effort.
This year across the four fundraisers, we have raised over $2,200 supporting St Vinnies, Caritas, Catholic Care Victoria and Food for Friends.
These organisations are an important pillar of the community. Every dollar raised is vital in providing a range of services to support people in need within the community.
The generosity of our school community is evident in how all students and families support our fundraisers. It is a reflection of why OLOL is a special place.
Thank you for your support.

OLOL Classroom Readers and Library Books To Be Returned
