Dear Parents,
We find ourselves already halfway through the term, and it's been a fantastic journey filled with many fun community events. The good news is, we have many exciting events still ahead. Make sure to mark these important dates in your calendars.
Cross Country, Remembrance Day Liturgy, Whole School Mass, ABC Music Concerts, Prep Orientation, OLOL Tennis Tournament (registration closes tomorrow), Night Before Christmas Day, Year 6 Graduation, and Carols are still to come. We can't wait to bring everyone together for these events, creating lasting memories and moments of celebration.
I am thrilled to announce that our OLOL Parents and Friends committee is back up and running for 2024. Join us for our first planning meeting on Tuesday, November 28th, at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend, and during the meeting, we'll be discussing upcoming community events and fundraising initiatives. Our gratitude goes out to the 11 individuals who have already stepped forward to be a part of this important group. If you're interested in joining the OLOL P&F, it's not too late – your participation would be greatly appreciated.
Last week, we had the honour of hosting a special guest at our school, Sam Hibbins, the local government member for Prahran. He visited us, took a school tour and engaged in a thoughtful discussion with our students. During the conversation, we shared our aspirations and plans for expanding the school, and Sam graciously offered to support our building grant submission with a letter to the state government. He also enlightened the students about his role in the community and shared insights into the workings of Parliament House. The kids had some interesting questions for him, such as, "Can you help us with the crows that attack our bins?" and "Do you work from home?" Sam's interaction with our students left a positive impression, and he was genuinely impressed with our school and its students.
This year, we express our gratitude to the dedicated members of the School Advisory Committee who will be concluding their tenure at the end of the year. We will soon be announcing an expression of interest for anyone who wishes to join our SAC committee for 2024. If you are willing to be a part of this vital committee, please let us know. Your involvement is valued and contributes significantly to our school's continued success.
Finally, we're excited to announce our exclusive Christmas Bag Fundraiser, which will run for the next three weeks. These incredible bags are available at affordable prices ranging from $4 to $6 and come in a delightful array of colours. Instead of investing in rolls of wrapping paper, consider the convenience of these bags, all of which come complete with an attached Christmas card.
What's more, these bags are environmentally conscious as they are recyclable. You can easily store them in your cupboard for reuse the following Christmas. Please find additional information below for full details.
Together, we can achieve great things. Thank you for your continued support and dedication.

OLOL Cross Country - Friday 10th November
Students can wear their sports uniform and house colours (red, green or gold) on the day. We would love to see all the students decked out head to toe in their house colours, so get out the face paint, ribbons, t-shirts, hats, shorts and sweatbands and dress them up to support their team! If a child is unsure of their house colour, please have them ask their classroom teacher.
As with all events, we will need assistance with both setup and marshalling. If you are able to assist with setup it will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am and marshalls will be required from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. We will need to transport equipment to the park, so if you have a van/ute available, please let me know as that makes things a lot easier.
If you are able to assist, please complete the OLOL Cross Country Information & Parent Helpers form.
Thank you!

OLOL Tennis Tournament Sign up
Please join us for the Our Lady of Lourdes Open, scheduled for Friday 1st December at 9.00am at the Orrong Park Tennis Club. You can choose to either team up with a friend or register individually and if you opt for the latter, we'll gladly find a suitable partner for you. This event is open to both students and parents, but it's important to note that student participants should have the ability to play tennis.
The tournament format will be determined by the number of people who enter the tournament. The format will either be a round-robin or a knockout. Excitingly, the victors of the OLOL Tournament will be awarded a trophy as a token of their achievement.
Registrations close Friday 3rd of November
Public Holiday and School Closure Days
There is also a school closure day on Monday 27th November.
Please note Extend will not operate on any of the abovementioned days.
Your donation to the Poppy Appeal changes the lives of veterans and their families.
This term in Weeks 2, 4, 6 and 8, our Year 5/6 students will be selling products from their business stalls. OLOL students from Prep - Year 4 are able to come into the marketplace and purchase items from the stalls. There are a few rules that need to be put in place for the marketplace.
- Students are to bring no more than $5 to spend at the stall
- Students are not allowed to ask other students for their money to spend
- Any items purchased at the stalls are to be placed into their bags and consumed or used at home
We would appreciate it if you would speak with your child about these rules as we had a number of students last week who came to school with a considerable amount of money to spend. We want the kids to have fun and learn how to budget their money effectively in our Year 5/6 Marketplace.
Swim Squad training for the 2024 Holt Swimming Carnival begins on Friday 24th November at the Harold Holt Swim Centre.
Swim Squad is for current students in Years 3-6 (2023). If your child/children are interested in joining please read, sign, and return the Swim Squad Permission Form by Friday 17th November.
We will be offering breakfast upon returning to school provided that we have parents committed to the preparation and serving of the food. Please indicate on this permission note if you are willing to assist with this. If we do not receive enough parent support for the valued and enjoyed breakfast program, we will need to reconsider this aspect of the program.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
