Dear Parents,
As we look forward to the year 2024, we're thrilled by the growing engagement and involvement of parents within our school community. It's with great pleasure that we announce some exciting updates and upcoming events.
First and foremost, we'd like to extend our thanks to all the parents who have stepped up to join our P&F committee. Your commitment and dedication are invaluable. We're delighted to introduce our President, Morag Eyles, and Secretary, Georgina Limbrey. However, we are still on the lookout for 3-4 more parents to come on board. The more hands we have on deck, the better we can support our school. If you're interested, please click here to sign up. We'll be hosting a special meeting next month to plan for 2024.
HUGE thank you to the parents who devoted their time and effort at our recent Referendum BBQ Fundraiser! The bacon and egg rolls were a massive hit, and together, we managed to raise just over $1000.
Our Year 5/6 students are currently having a blast at camp. They've been learning the value of teamwork and supporting one another through various challenges. After an exhilarating day, they enjoyed a relaxing session at the beach, skimming rocks and playing a quick game of Red Rover. Today, with perfect weather on their side, the students collaborated to build a raft while having a great time in the water. Stay updated on their adventures by visiting our Instagram page.
Mark your calendars for our upcoming Art Show, next Friday 27th October, from 6 - 8 pm. We're still in need of a few extra hands at the bar, so if you can spare 30 minutes, please sign up here. This year, our classroom art pieces are nothing short of gallery quality. Don't miss our annual art auction in the hall, and be sure to explore these amazing creations in the office area.
We're delighted to share the news that OLOL will host its very first playgroup in 2024! Our Little One’s Learning playgroup will be hosted by Gaya Nair and will be running on Wednesday mornings from 9 - 10 am. The morning will feature structured activities for the kids, providing a great opportunity for OLOL parents and friends to connect and get to know each other better. If you have friends in the area who might be interested, please spread the word. We'll send out a formal invitation to join in November. In the meantime, you can register your interest by clicking here (if you haven't already done so previously).
Our first Our Lady of Lourdes Open is shaping up to be a fantastic event. While it's primarily aimed at OLOL parents, students with tennis skills are welcome to participate. We'd love to see more parents join in for a few hours of fun. It's not too late to register!
Looking ahead, we're excited to announce some wonderful Social Justice initiatives within our school. We encourage all members of our community to get involved. These initiatives include Operation Christmas Child, Christmas Hamper Donations for families in need from our St. Peter's and OLOL Parish, and Fun in the Sun Day, where all proceeds will be donated to Food for Friends, a charitable organisation affiliated with our parish. Additionally, our students will be writing special Christmas cards to be sent to Our Lady of Lourdes Parishioners, providing comfort to those who might otherwise have a lonely Christmas.
Together, we can achieve great things. Thank you for your continued support and dedication.

As you explore the Art Show, we've got something special planned for you. Inside the Art Room, you'll find a well-stocked bar. To make this evening even more enjoyable, we kindly ask for volunteers to help manage the bar. If you can spare just 30 minutes, please consider signing up via the link provided below.
In a slight change from previous years, we won't be hosting a BBQ this year, instead, we encourage all our families to bring a picnic to share with your family. We have arranged tables where you can sit, relax, have a drink, and enjoy your picnic with your family and friends.
As per the requirements outlined in our liquor licence, alcohol is not permitted outside of the art room and deck area. Last year we found a number of glasses and beer bottles scattered around our students' artwork. We also found a vape amongst the artwork. It is important that we respect our student's artwork displays and refrain from placing our glasses and bottles on the display tables. Vaping and smoking is strictly prohibited on school grounds.
We would like for our families and friends to walk around and admire the hard work each of the 170 OLOL students has put in to create such masterpieces. Our art show is one of the best and we take great pride in ensuring that all the events that are held by the school is of the highest quality.
Your presence and support are greatly appreciated!
Your donation to the Poppy Appeal changes the lives of veterans and their families.
Congratulations to the students who represented OLOL at the Beachside Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 10th October. It was a tough day of competition against schools from different sporting divisions across the region. As always the students of OLOL competed in the right spirit and showcased their athletic talents and sportsmanship. Well done to Ollie, Max, Sasha, Juliette, Josh, Charlize, Benji, Maya and Freddie. A special mention to Josh who placed 3rd in the 12/13 year old boys' discus.
This term in Weeks 2, 4, 6 and 8, our Year 5/6 students will be selling products from their business stalls. OLOL students from Prep - Year 4 are able to come into the marketplace and purchase items from the stalls. There are a few rules that need to be put in place for the marketplace.
- Students are to bring no more than $5 to spend at the stall
- Students are not allowed to ask other students for their money to spend
- Any items purchased at the stalls are to be placed into their bags and consumed or used at home
We would appreciate it if you would speak with your child about these rules as we had a number of students last week who came to school with a considerable amount of money to spend. We want the kids to have fun and learn how to budget their money effectively in our Year 5/6 Marketplace.
Please remember that Term 4 means time to start wearing hats again on the playground. The school sun policy is “No Hat, Shaded Area”. Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their hat each day! Please also ensure that your child’s hat has their name clearly marked on it.
For your convenience, the OLOL Legionnaires Cap is available for purchase from the office for $20.
Swim Squad training for the 2024 Holt Swimming Carnival begins on Friday 24th November at the Harold Holt Swim Centre.
Swim Squad is for current students in Years 3-6 (2023). If your child/children are interested in joining please read, sign, and return the Swim Squad Permission Form by Friday 17th November.
We will be offering breakfast upon returning to school provided that we have parents committed to the preparation and serving of the food. Please indicate on this permission note if you are willing to assist with this. If we do not receive enough parent support for the valued and enjoyed breakfast program, we will need to reconsider this aspect of the program.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

OLOL Tennis Tournament Sign up
Please join us for the Our Lady of Lourdes Open, scheduled for Friday 1st December at 9.00am at the Orrong Park Tennis Club. You can choose to either team up with a friend or register individually and if you opt for the latter, we'll gladly find a suitable partner for you. This event is open to both students and parents, but it's important to note that student participants should have the ability to play tennis.
The tournament format will be determined by the number of people who enter the tournament. The format will either be a round-robin or a knockout. Excitingly, the victors of the OLOL Tournament will be awarded a trophy as a token of their achievement.
Christmas Carols - Thursday 14th December
On Thursday 14th December there will be a whole school celebration incorporating Christmas Carols, Year 6 Graduation Ceremony and End of Year Disco. The evening will begin in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 6:00pm. The Carols and Graduation Ceremony will be followed by the Disco at the school. All students will be part of this event so please save the date.
