Welcome back, everyone! I hope you enjoyed your two-week break and that the kids are all geared up for an exciting Term 4.
Speaking of breaks, the McAlister family had quite an eventful one. With Collingwood's victorious premiership win, my house has turned black and white inside out. I was fortunate enough to secure two tickets to the game, and my son and I were right there at the 'G', singing 'Good Old Collingwood Forever'.
There are a number of events that are happening this term, so I need you to get out your calendars and save these dates!
I'm thrilled to announce that we'll be hosting the very first OLOL Tennis Tournament at the Orrong Park Tennis Courts on Friday, December 1st. This exciting event is open to both students and parents, and it'll be a thrilling doubles tournament. You can easily register here.
On Saturday, October 14th, our community will gather in our school hall for an important referendum vote. If you can spare 90 minutes of your time to help with selling sausages and drinks, please sign up using this link.
On Wednesday, October 18th, we'll be bidding farewell to our Year 5 and 6 students as they embark on a camp to Camp Manyung in Mt Eliza. This camp promises a series of team-building activities that will further strengthen their bonds as our school's leaders.
On Friday, October 27th, we'll be hosting our much-anticipated annual OLOL Art Show. Our students have been hard at work, creating beautiful art pieces to display. Their class artwork will be up for auction that night. So, make sure to mark this date in your calendar. It's a wonderful opportunity to admire the incredible talents of our kids while socialising with fellow parents. If you can spare 30 minutes to help at the bar, please add your details here.
Exciting news! We've finally broken ground, and construction has officially begun. Our new room is expected to be completed by the end of the year and will serve as our brand-new library in 2024. I'll keep you updated on the progress as we go along.
I've been hearing some fantastic ideas from parents about ways to enhance our school. One of these ideas is the return of the Parents and Friends Committee for 2024. I'm very open to this possibility, but we need volunteers to make it happen. If you're interested in joining our P&F for 2024, please fill out this Google form.
Lastly, I'm excited to announce that our annual OLOL Book Fair is starting this Monday! Head to our school hall and purchase some great books to take home.
I know this is a lot to take in for the first week back, and there are several volunteering opportunities. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Adrian
Scholastic Book Fair - 9th October - 12th October
Our Scholastic Book Fair will commence on Monday 9th October. The Book Fair will be held on:
Monday - Thursday 8:30-9:00am
Monday - Wednesday 3:30-4:00pm
The children will have an opportunity to view the books on Friday and create a 'Wish List' which can then be puchased using the QR Code which will be sent home on Friday afternoon. You can also come and purchase the books from the School Hall at any of the times above.
In order for the Book Fair to run we would appreciate some assistance on the days. If you are free please sign up here.
We hope to see you there!
Mary Gammilonghi
This is actually quite a fun thing to be part of and we ask you to be generous with your time and pop yourself on the roster for a shift.
Apart from the fact that it is a great way to meet people in our community that you have not met before it is a terrific opportunity to welcome people to our school which in turn could lead to enrolments.
So as you can see this Sausage Sizzle offers more than the chance to hoe into a sausage, it:
- Gives you an opportunity to work with and meet OLOL parents
- Raises money for the school
- Is a chance to engage local people in the benefits of our lovely school and therefore grow enrolments
- Is actually quite a fun way to spend a couple of hours
If you are willing and able to help out please click on this link to sign up.
Thank you to those who have already signed up, we appreciate your support!
As you explore the Art Show, we've got something special planned for you. Inside the Art Room, you'll find a well-stocked bar. To make this evening even more enjoyable, we kindly ask for volunteers to help manage the bar. If you can spare just 30 minutes, please consider signing up via the link provided below.
In a slight change from previous years, we won't be hosting a BBQ this time. Instead, we encourage all our families to bring a picnic to share with your family. We have arranged tables where you can sit, relax, have a drink, and enjoy your picnic with your family and friends.
Your presence and support are greatly appreciated!
While on the subject of uniform please ensure that all items of uniform are clearly marked with your child’s name.
Please remind your children that they need to be responsible for their own belongings!
Please remember that Term 4 means time to start wearing hats again on the playground. The school sun policy is “No Hat, Shaded Area”. Please ensure that your child comes to school wearing their hat each day! Please also ensure that your child’s hat has their name clearly marked on it.
For your convenience, the OLOL Legionnaires Cap is available for purchase from the office for $20.
The Parents and Friends Association
Often there is a lag between when the funds are raised and when they are eventually spent.
- In 2014 the money raised enabled us to put new phone systems in all the classrooms. The rooms had previously been completely uncontactable and this presented a big safety issue.
- The combined fundraising efforts of the years 2015 and 2016 have contributed to one of the most significant improvements OLOL has seen in 50 years – the beautiful new front garden and long overdue new fence.
- The 2017 fundraising went towards new classroom furniture for the school which will coincide with the seniors returning to the new building.
- The 2018 & 2019 fundraising went into improved outdoor play areas on the east side of the school as the building project impacted the existing garden, sandpit play equipment and shed.
- The 2020 & 2021 fundraising went to refurbishing the current P-2 classrooms and installing brand-new interactive TVs.
The school would be unable to even contemplate these major improvements without the P&F organising events and the school and parish community contributing to them.
Apart from the very real role the P&F play in driving school improvement, they perform an equally important role in making friends and collaborating together to bring about the change. The friendships you establish at OLOL will prove to be lifelong. The primary school years of your children are a significant time in your lives as well. Being part of the P&F will open opportunities you might otherwise be unaware of.

Thank you to all those who completed the survey. This year we had 55% (an increase from 46% last year) of families respond to the survey. When we get our results later this month we will share with you some of the findings and how this will help us with our School Improvement Plan for 2024.
OLOL Tennis Tournament Sign up
Please join us for the Our Lady of Lourdes Open, scheduled for Friday, December 1st, at 9 am, at the Orrong Park Tennis Club. You can choose to either team up with a friend or register individually and if you opt for the latter, we'll gladly find a suitable partner for you. This event is open to both students and parents, but it's important to note that student participants should have the ability to play tennis.
The tournament format will be determined by the number of people who enter the tournament. The format will either be a round-robin or a knockout. Excitingly, the victors of the OLOL Tournament will be awarded a trophy as a token of their achievement.
This term in French students are going to be learning about names of family members, such as mum, dad, brother, sister.
Please send a family photo to school with your child next Monday for the children to be able to discuss family members.
Christmas Carols - Thursday 14th December
On Thursday 14th December there will be a whole school celebration incorporating Christmas Carols, Year 6 Graduation Ceremony and End of Year Disco. The evening will begin in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 6:00pm. The Carols and Graduation Ceremony will be followed by the Disco at the school. All students will be part of this event so please save the date.
