Last Friday afternoon, the school came alive with the sound of music and laughter as we hosted a high-energy dance and disco. The highlight of the disco had to be the crazy conga line that weaved its way through the hall, spreading joy wherever it went! But it's not only our students who got to have all the fun.
Our Casino Royale event on Saturday was a roaring success. We want to extend our congratulations to Sarah Shanahan, who emerged as the top casino champion of the night. The cheers and screams from the casino tables indicated that many people had a fantastic time and might have even won big! We managed to raise an impressive $14,000, which will go towards funding a brand-new classroom for our school. This achievement wouldn't have been possible without the incredible dedication of our OLOL staff. They went above and beyond their usual roles, especially when the kitchen ovens struggled to heat up the delicious food. Our staff rallied together, ensuring that everyone enjoyed pies and arancini while they had fun in the photo booth or at the casino tables. We are truly blessed to have such devoted and fantastic staff members. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Bridie Kibby who sang AMAZINGLY on Saturday night. The James Bond-themed songs you sang brought a true Casino Royale theme to the evening. Another BIG thank you to David Willmott who was our esteemed auctioneer for the evening. The touch of chocolates was a stroke of genius. Thank you!!!
As we approach the end of Term 3, there's still one more exciting event on the horizon. Next Friday (15/9), we'll be having a Footy Fun Day, and we encourage all our students to come dressed in their favourite sporting team's colours. There will be songs to sing and fun football activities over at the Orrong Romanis Oval. We also would like to encourage all parents and friends to join us for the Footy Fun Day from 9:30 am to 11 am. We can't wait to see you there!
With Term 3 coming to a close, we hope everyone has a fun and safe break. Let's hope the sun continues to shine, and the warm weather sticks around. We wish the best of luck to all the footy teams in the finals, and here's hoping the mighty magpies bring home the flag!
Adrian McAlister
We extend our gratitude to all the members of our community who went above and beyond to support our Casino Royale Fundraiser. We were fortunate to receive generous donations of magnificent prizes, and several year levels came together to contribute to a group prize. Without your dedication and support for our school, this event would not have been possible. Thank you!!
Thank you to our wonderful parents and companies for sponsoring a table at our fundraiser

Community Update : Principal Appointment Process
The process to appoint a new Principal for Our Lady of Lourdes, Prahran East is currently underway. This process is facilitated by members of the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) in partnership with Fr Brendan Hayes and a panel consisting of 2 school parents and an experienced Principal. As is common practice, we recently readvertised the position again in order to gain a broader field of applicants. Unfortunately, our facilitator has taken unexpected family leave but as soon as he returns, I assure you the OLOL process will continue to progress at the start of Term 4.
As in all recruitment processes a high level of confidentiality is maintained by all members and l thank you for respecting this.
Kind Regards
Deb Egan
Regional General Manager (MACS)
Expression of Interest: OLOL Child Playgroup in 2024
We are considering the launch of a child playgroup at OLOL in 2024 and want your input. Many of our school families have younger siblings aged 6 months to 3 years, and we believe that a weekly playgroup could offer valuable benefits for both children and our school community.
Key Details:
Weekly Sessions: We plan to host a weekly playgroup session led by an experienced staff member, focusing on structured activities.
Time Slot: The playgroup will run from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on one specific day each week, designed to fit into busy schedules.
Open to All: The playgroup is open not only to OLOL parents but also friends with children of the same age.
Limited Capacity: To ensure quality interactions, we'll limit the number of participants. Making the EOI very important.
We'd like to know if you're interested in this initiative or have suggestions. Please take a moment to complete our Google Form.
Resolving Student Issues for a Positive School Experience
It is important when student issues arise that the staff are notified in a timely manner. It is often a lot more difficult to get to the bottom of issues when a number of days pass as students tend to forget crucial details. Timely communication is important because:
Preventing Escalation: Addressing issues early stops them from growing into larger problems that can impact a student's well-being and academic performance.
Retaining Vital Details: Timely reporting ensures that crucial information is fresh in students' minds, aiding in understanding and resolving the issue effectively.
Enhancing Safety and Happiness: Prompt communication helps maintain a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all students.
Please encourage your child to speak to their teacher when they encounter classroom or playground issues. By working together, we can ensure a positive school experience for every student.
Congratulations to all the Student of the Week Award winners from week 7. These students exemplified the value of; Getting Along.

On Friday 1st September, the OLOL athletics team took to the track and field at Duncan McKinnon Reserve to test themselves against schools in the Holt District. It was a great day all around with excellent results across all events.
The OLOL team not only competed in the right spirit showcasing their running, throwing and jumping skills, but they were also humble in victory and gracious in defeat.
It was wonderful to see students support and cheer for each other as they competed. It shows the quality of not only the athletes at OLOL, but also the wonderful young people they are.

It is important that children read for 20 minutes each day. Parents are encouraged to listen to their child read everyday. This quality time spent together supports the learning that is happening each day at school and should be cherished as one on one time spent with your child after a busy day.
Reading is important because it improves your focus, vocabulary, empathy, memory and communication skills. It also increases your creativity and critical thinking.
Footy Fun Day is on next week, Friday 15th September (last day of Term 3). Students are invited to dress up in their football team colours. This can be either AFL, NRL, Rugby or Soccer or your favourite sports team. The idea is to celebrate the football finals and generally have a bit of fun by supporting your team at school.
Parents are welcome to join us throughout the morning.
SRC Fundraiser - Style in Spring - TOMORROW!
Tomorrow, Friday 8th September, the SRC will be holding the fundraiser for Term 3 ‘Style in Spring’. The theme of the day is colour, florals and all things Spring.
Students will enjoy juice, fruit, biscuits and we will be having a 'Fashions on the Field' parade.
We are asking for a $5 donation. All money raised will be donated to Catholic Care Victoria. Catholic Care Victoria provide vital programs and services for vulnerable families throughout Victoria.
We look forward to seeing everyone dressed up in the spirit of Spring!
The SRC Team
We appreciate everyone is time-poor but please know we take your responses seriously and use these to inform how we allocate funding to improve OLOL.
Should you have any questions about the survey or would like technical support completing the survey please contact Irene - irene.archer@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au
Book Week 2023 ~ Read Grow Inspire
On Thursday 31st August, OLOL took over Orrong Romanis for our annual Athletics Carnival! It was a sea of colours with students proudly representing green, red and gold house. As they walked to the Oval, the sounds of cheers, laughter and excitement filled the air!
It was a super day of competition with students competing in both track and field events. The hard work and effort during PE classes and Running Club didn't go to waste, with excellent efforts across all events. It was great to see students showcase their athletic talents and represent themselves and their house with great energy.
A BIG thanks to all the teachers and parents who assisted across the day. It really is a team effort and your assistance made the day a great success!
Congratulations to Red House on their victory!
