I would like to express my gratitude to Lisa Collinson for her outstanding efforts in organising our recent cinema fundraiser. The screening of "The Miracle Club" proved to be a delightful experience, evoking both fits of laughter and touching moments throughout the audience. I am thrilled to announce that this fundraiser successfully generated $493, which will be directly allocated to the development of our new classroom. A sincere thank you extends to all those who graced us with their presence at the event.
Our school community was treated to a spectacular performance last week, Shrek, that will be remembered for years to come. The resounding positive feedback from our parents and friends in attendance truly highlighted the success of this production. It's without a doubt that the hard work invested by our students, teachers, and ESOs paid off. I would also like to express my deepest appreciation to the individuals who generously contributed to the production's success. Mary Mosad's dedication to creating four lead costumes was simply remarkable. Additionally, the contributions from parents such as Camille Tulloch, Laura Farrell, Karen Rada, and Guy Nixon-Luke in costume organisation, set painting, and stitching were invaluable. A heartfelt thank you to each of you for your ongoing support.
As we eagerly await our upcoming Casino Royale fundraising event, only one week remains. For those who haven't yet secured tickets, I encourage you to do so at your earliest convenience. Purchasing tickets by Monday, August 28th will entitle you to an extra 10 raffle tickets, a generous offer that enhances your chances of winning. If you are unable to attend the event, your support through ticket or raffle ticket purchases is sincerely appreciated. All funds raised will directly contribute to the building of our new classroom. A special shout-out to David Wilmott for volunteering as our auctioneer for the evening – your dedication is greatly admired.
Speaking of our new classroom project, we are navigating through a few delays, but our optimism remains. Despite the unforeseen challenges that sometimes impede progress, our dedicated team is working hard to get all our ducks lined up and have the classroom completed by the end of this school year.
Looking ahead, the upcoming week will see us celebrating book week under the theme "Learn, Grow, Inspire." While there won't be a dress-up day, a range of engaging activities awaits our students throughout the week, ensuring an enriching and inspiring experience for all.
Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing everyone at our Casino Royale event.

One of the main goals of the family survey is to identify the strengths and areas for improvement in our school. MACSSIS data benefits everyone within our school and provides valuable community insights on areas that each school can focus on. Our school believes it is important to encourage families to have a voice and contribute to shaping the ongoing improvement of the school.
The survey is available online, can be accessed from Monday 28 August and needs to be completed by Friday 15 September 2023. This survey may only be completed once.
You will receive an email next week with your family’s personal identification number (PIN) for completing the survey. Please keep an eye out for this email.
We appreciate everyone is time-poor but please know we take your responses seriously and do what we can to make improvements.
Should you have any questions about the survey or would like technical support completing the survey please contact Irene - irene.archer@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au
World Youth Day - Tanya and Tom
How lucky are we! Recently we were presented with the fantastic and privileged opportunity to travel with a small group of emerging leaders through Rome, Assisi and Lisbon to World Youth Day. Over our three weeks away, we experienced an incredible range of talks, presentations, masses and visits to key pilgrimage sites with various leaders in the Catholic Church from around the world. We became more deeply immersed in our faith and the principles underpinning the work of teachers in the Catholic system throughout the Melbourne Archdiocese.
The first city we visited was Rome. Here we visited many magnificent important religious sites including; St Mary Major, Santa Lucia Filippini Chapel, St Peter’s Basilica, the Catacombs, the Vatican and the Vatican Museum.
We also were lucky enough to visit and have drinks with the Australian Ambassador to the Holy Sea. On top of all this we were given the once in a lifetime opportunity to have a private audience with Pope Francis. We both feel extremely blessed to have taken part in this experience. He spoke to us about education, faith and issues affecting our world today. This will be a moment we will always remember and cherish.
We had a whistle stop tour of Assisi before heading onto Portugal. We followed the footsteps of St Francis through Assisi and were treated to an insightful guided tour through the Basilica of St Clare.
World Youth Day really kicked off when we arrived in Portugal. We attended many World Youth Day events including a Welcome Mass, Papal welcome and a sleep out that led into the closing mass. The experience as a whole taught us the importance of being true to ourselves in faith, and reflecting on how we can best use that to help our students and staff alike.
We cannot thank the staff, families and students for the love and support while we were away!
What a day it was – filled with bright colours, joy, learning, and a touch of magic! Our Prep students marked their 100 Days of School with a theme that encapsulated the spirit of the occasion: "100 Days Brighter."
From start to finish, the school was alive with anticipation. The Prep students embarked on a journey of creativity and numbers, crafting vibrant 100-day crowns and engaging in activities that showcased their early Maths skills and imagination.
The real magic happened during Tim Credible's captivating magic show that left our Preppies amazed. Laughter and wonder filled the air, reminding us all that learning is a magical adventure.
As the day wrapped up, our students proudly shared their achievements with parents at a special assembly. Their smiles and stories illuminated the room as they celebrated their growth over their first 100 days of school here at OLOL.
Thank you to our wonderful parents and companies for sponsoring a table at our fundraiser

Year 5 & 6
On Monday 31st July, the year 5 and 6 students represented OLOL in the Hooptime Tournament at MSAC. It was the first time for many years that OLOL had entered teams and it was wonderful to see the energy, enthusiasm and excitement of the students. It was a busy day with three teams playing in the Future Stars Division. All teams played really well with both wins, losses and even a draw!
The students represented OLOL in the right spirit, played hard but fair and supported each other both on and off the court. A great day was had and everyone had fun!
Year 3 & 4
Next up was the Year 3 and 4 students who hit the courts at MSAC on Tuesday 8th August to try and conquer the Hooptime Tournament. Three teams competed across the All Star Boys, All Star Girls and Future Stars division.
It was a great day with all teams winning games and two of the teams making the grandfinal. In two close games, the teams played wonderful basketball and came SO close to taking home the win! Although the didn't win, they layed the foundations for future sucess.
A big congratulations to ALL students who represented OLOL. You continue to show the Holt District not only the quality of your sporting talents but also the quality of people you are with your wonderful sportsmanship!
