What an interesting week it has been, reminiscent of my very first week here at OLOL in 2019. Despite being at OLOL for the past five years, my first week as acting principal has transported me back to those early days when I felt like a newcomer.
Last week, we held a heartfelt goodbye to our principal, Francine, as she penned her final newsletter message. A decade of her dedicated service has shaped OLOL into the amazing school it is today, and her absence will undoubtedly be felt.
Looking ahead, an exciting list of events awaits us in the coming weeks. On Tuesday we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption, a celebration that brings us together to celebrate Mary being taken up to Heaven. At 11.30am on Tuesday (15th August), OLOL Church will be filled with the organ and our Year 3 - 6 students singing. All parents and extended families are welcome to come and join us.
Our students have been working hard and getting ready for the much-anticipated Shrek production. The busy week ahead, Wednesday and Thursday, is dedicated to practice sessions and matinee and evening shows. It is important that you read the information below to stay up to date with the pick up and drop off times as well as what the students are to wear and bring on both days.
Preparation of our annual fundraiser is in full swing, Casino Royale, on Saturday, September 2nd. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the parents who have stepped forward to orchestrate this event. There's still much to be done. Three sponsorship tables are still available, and we're actively seeking items for both live and silent auctions. We are in search of a parent to be Master of Ceremonies for the live auction, if you are willing to put your hand up to please let me know. Every contribution counts, and even modest gestures like the collaborative year-level hampers from last year could significantly improve our silent auction's offerings.
Tomorrow, is filled with excitement as we commemorate a special milestone for our Prep students—their first 100 days at OLOL! With an array of games, engaging activities, and even a magician, our young learners are in for a fun-filled day. Parents, please join us for a celebratory assembly where our Prep students will put on a special presentation.
Have a wonderful week

Dress Rehearsal - Wednesday 16th August 2023
Students are to be dropped off at St Mary's College (formerly CBC), entrance on Westbury Street, at 9:30am. Teachers will be present on Westbury Street to welcome and direct students to the Atrium. The school will not be open on this day so please do not drop your child at OLOL. There will be no before school care available on this day as all staff and students will be meeting at Logue Hall at 9:30am.
Students will be coming home with their basic costume on Tuesday and will need to arrive at St Mary’s College wearing their basic costume and black shoes or runners with make up done. All smaller elements will be held at St Mary’s and students will put them on once they arrive.
Basic costumes are:
- Prep/1 M and P - shorts/skorts with top
- Prep/1 R and 2A - tunic and pants
- ¾ M - skeleton top and pants
- ¾ V - boys to wear their sports top and black pants, girls will wear their dress
- 5/6 P - students will know their ‘basic costume’
Students will need their lunch, snack and drink bottle in a clearly labelled small bag. Please do not send anything that could mark / stain costumes. No school bags or toys.
Students are to be picked up at 3:00pm from St Mary's College. We will run a ‘speedy pickup’ in order to alleviate traffic as quickly as possible. Please note, if you arrive late you will be competing with the St Mary's College and St Mary’s Primary School pickup time, which will make for very busy traffic. Any students booked into Extend after school care and who have relevant forms signed, will be taken back to OLOL in a staff car.
Matinee Performance - Thursday 17th August 2023
Students will arrive and be dismissed from OLOL at normal times. We will take a bus to St Mary’s College.
Students should all come to school in their full make-up and hair, wearing their basic costumes and black shoes or runners. The smaller elements will be held at St Mary’s College and students will put them on once they arrive.
Students will need their lunch, snack and drink bottle in a clearly labelled small bag. Please do not send anything that could mark / stain costumes. No school bags or toys.
The Matinee will start at 12:00pm and finish by 1:30pm.
Parents who have indicated on the form are welcome to pick students up from the Atrium (below the Hall), St Mary's College, after the Matinee performance at 2:00pm to have a rest in the afternoon before the big performance.
Evening Performance - Thursday 17th August 2023
Principal Cast Members need to arrive at the Atrium, St Mary’s College by 6:15pm to change and have mics fitted.
All other Cast Members must be dropped at the Atrium by 6:30pm.
Cast Members should arrive in full hair and make-up, and wearing their basic costume and black runners or shoes.
The performance will begin at 7:00pm sharp and conclude at approximately 8:30pm.
Students to be brought to the doors at Logue Hall. Parents line up at the door with tickets loaded on their phones ready to go. Please do not have students in the line with you.
Please note: There will be no reserved seating available and so we would suggest that you arrive on time to secure the best seats.
At the end of the show we would appreciate help in stacking up chairs, then you are welcome to depart with your child/ren from the Atrium below Logue Hall. Many hands make light work! Please collect your child from their class teacher.
Please see the videos below for hair and make up instructions for all students. We can wait to see them all made up next week at the dress rehearsal!

Tuesday 15th August - Feast of the Assumption
Feast of the Assumption - Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Tuesday 15th August at 11:30am
Aside from each Sunday of the year, there are two 'Holy Days of Obligation' in Australia. Christmas Day (25th December) and the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (15th August). These two holy days are to be observed each year, regardless of the day of the week on which they fall. We do hope that we will see you at Mass to celebrate this significant day in the Liturgical Year.
Rest Day/Morning - Friday 18th August
With all of the excitement, and the late night on Thursday, there is an option for you to bring your child in late to school on Friday or have a rest day at home. We do ask that you please notify the school via SZapp if you are bringing your child/ren into school late or staying home for the day.
Please, please, please approach and ask people for items for our auction.
We're a bit light on at the moment!
We understand that you may feel as if you have nothing to offer. Last year, a few of our year levels put in $20 or $30 into a pool and purchased a year-level item for the silent auction. This will help us provide a large number of items for auction.
Thank you to our wonderful parents and companies for sponsoring a table at our fundraiser
