This newsletter is chock-a-block full of important stuff so I'll try to keep my piece to a minimum.
PLEASE read the Shrek information carefully, as you are required to do quite a bit of stuff including dropping off and picking up your children at Logue Hall (St Mary's College - formally CBC St Kilda) as well as all sorts of other Shrek-related information.
As I am sure you are all well aware it is my final day next Friday. I thought I would update you on the leadership structure of the school till the end of the year.

Substitute Year Two Teacher - Aoife Finnegan. Aoife has been working at OLOL as a CRT (Casual Replacement Teacher) many times over the past semester and is very excited, to begin with us in a more continuous way. She told me secretly that although she enjoys teaching all the grades at OLOL her favourite is Year Two! So she is just thrilled to be with them till the end of the year.
Included in this newsletter is an article from Tony Levett on behalf of the Southern Regional Office (SRO) of MACS. In it, he outlines the principal appointment process.

In some seriously exciting news, our pilgrims have arrived in Rome - Photo 1 (why when you are in Rome you would choose that backdrop is beyond me but anyway they're young) But the breaking news is ... the group 'Emerging leaders' of which Tanya, Tom, and Peter are a part of were granted a surprise private audience with Pope Francis at Casa Santa Marta, the papal residence, yesterday morning.
Apparently the Pope answered questions on topics ranging from education to evangelisation, the environment, and caring for our common home, the Holy Father said the main message he wanted to give them was that ‘the Lord is always by your side—always. Even in the most difficult moments, he is always with us. He never tires of walking with us!’
Both Tom and Tanya sent through some great photos illustrating the intimacy of the group meeting and how privileged and grateful they felt to be part of it.
We continue to pray for our OLOL pilgrims for a depth of faith experience and a continued safe journey.
Principal Appointment Process - From SRO
Dear Parents,
The Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) Principal Selection Process has begun. The Principal Selection Process panel has been formed and they will work through a MACS specially designed selection process to provide advice for the MACS Regional General Manager as to who is the best applicant to lead our school into the future. The panel consists of:
● Parish Priest – Fr Brendan Hayes
● MACS Executive Director's Nominee
Regional Leadership Consultant: Anthony Levett
● An experienced, current Primary Principal – Michelle Moore
● 2 parent representatives:
- School Advisory Council - Clare Meade
- Parent Representative - Josh Molloy
Our school staff will meet with the Executive Director Nomine to provide their insights into the knowledge, skills, and expertise of a new principal. It's a highly confidential and thorough process that will see a new principal being appointed to our school for Term 1, 2024.
It is not uncommon that the position is re-advertised eg not enough applicants applied or applicants didn’t meet the specific requirements as per the process guidelines. The Principal Selection Panel will work its way through the various steps of the process during this term. The position has been advertised.
We pray for the panel in all their deliberations and may the Holy Spirit guide their discernment and enrich their discussions. We do ask that you and your family pray for the panel and for the right applicants to apply.

The details below pertains to the transport required for the dress rehearsal, Wednesday 16th August 2023, and the matinee performance, Thursday 17th August 2023, of Shrek at Logue Hall, St Mary's College (formerly known as CBC).
Please note: all this information is available in the School Calendar,
available on SZapp.
Dress Rehearsal - Wednesday 16th August 2023
- Students are to be dropped off at St Mary's College (formerly CBC), entrance on Westbury Street, at 9:30am. Teachers will be present on Westbury Street to welcome and direct students to the Atrium. The school will not be open on this day so please do not drop your child at OLOL. There will be no before school care available on this day as all staff and students will be meeting at Logue Hall at 9:30am.
- Students are to be picked up at 3:00pm from St Mary's College. Please note, if you arrive late you will be competing with the St Mary's College and St Mary’s Primary School pickup time, which will make for very busy traffic.
- Any students booked into Extend after school care will need to complete the relevant section of this form to allow transport of your child in a staff member's car.
- Students should all come in their basic costumes, the smaller elements will be held at St Mary’s and students will put them on once they arrive.
- Students will need their lunch, snack and drink bottle in a clearly labelled small bag. Please do not send anything that could mark / stain costumes. No school bags or toys.
Matinee Performance - Thursday 17th August 2023
- Students will arrive and be dismissed from OLOL at normal times. We will take a bus to St Mary’s College.
- Students should all come to school in their basic costumes, the smaller elements will be held at St Mary’s College and students will put them on once they arrive.
- Students will need their lunch, snack and drink bottle in a clearly labelled small bag. Please do not send anything that could mark / stain costumes. No school bags or toys.
- The Matinee will start at 12:00pm and finish by 1:30pm.
- Parents are welcome to pick students up from the Atrium (below the Hall), St Mary's College, after the Matinee performance at 2:00pm if they would like to give their child/ren a rest in the afternoon.
Evening Performance - Thursday 17th August 2023
- Principal Cast Members need to arrive at the Atrium, St Mary’s College by 6:15pm to change and have mics fitted.
- All other Cast Members must be dropped at the Atrium by 6:30pm.
- The performance will begin at 7:00pm sharp and conclude at approximately 8:30pm.
- Students to be brought to the doors at Logue Hall. Parents line up at the door with tickets loaded on their phones ready to go. Please do not have students in the line with you.
- Please note: There will be no reserved seating available and so we would suggest that you arrive on time to secure the best seats.
At the end of the show
- All costumes can be returned to school by the end of the following week. Any students who need to change will do so at St Mary’s College (we have separate rooms available and staff present to assist). We ask parents to please remain in the main hall while the children change.
- We would appreciate help in stacking up chairs at the conclusion of the evening, then you are welcome to depart with your child/ren from the Atrium below Logue Hall. Many hands make light work!

In order to plan classroom organisation for 2024 we are asking that you complete the 2024 School Intentions form and submit it back to school by Friday 28th July. Please complete one form per family.
Our warmest congratualtions to the Rahiman and Kennedy-Woods family on the arrival of their beautiful son and brother, Amaan Abdul Rahiman, born Saturday the 7th July. Amaan is baby brother to Luca Kennedy-Woods in Year 6.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).

Scouts - Join the Adventure - All Welcome
More than 22,000 young people, and adults are part of Scouts Victoria, from a wide range of cultural and religious backgrounds. We’re diverse and inclusive, proudly supporting people with physical or intellectual disabilities so we can all enjoy adventurous activities.
All Ages
Scouting is all about the healthy development of young people, preparing them for a constructive and active life ahead.
From the time they start school, children as young as five can become Joey Scouts. Older children and teens can join us along the way, even if they haven’t been involved in Scouting before.
Scouts are aged from 5 to 25, and adventurous adults of any age are always welcome as new Leaders.
Gender
Girls have been Scouts in Australia since the 1970s, and all our activities are equal opportunity. More than a third of our youth members are female.
Gender diversity is also supported and respected.
Additional needs
We welcome members with physical or intellectual disabilities, and we’ll include you in as many activities as possible. Some of the Groups specialise in activities for Scouts with disabilities, while all of them will do their best to make you feel welcome and included.
You can probably help us learn some useful skills too. Scouts have tried their hands at reading Braille and communicating with Auslan sign language. Some have even tried painting their Leader with a paint brush held in their feet!
We want to broaden our understanding of your everyday challenges, so we can help remove the barriers.
Backgrounds
Scouts come from many different backgrounds and cultures.
Many Scouts were born overseas or raised by parents who’ve retained traditions from other countries. All new members are welcomed into their Scout Groups and treated with respect.
Inclusiveness and diversity are values at the heart of Scouting activities. Members from different ethnic backgrounds can help their group learn about cultures, languages and spiritual beliefs. Younger Scouts might start a conversation through tasting foods from different nations. Older Scouts are encouraged to appreciate social and political differences at a deeper level, preparing them for travel or career.
Religion
Scouts Victoria welcomes members from all religions and we encourage the spiritual development of our members.
It’s true that Scouting was founded on traditional Christian values, and Sir Robert Baden-Powell often referred to God. But, as the movement grew, his writings and speeches referred to all religions.
In the century since then, we’ve continued to adapt and evolve, welcoming all faiths. The Scout promise refers to “my spiritual beliefs” instead of “God”.
