Firstly we HAVE to focus on our big Casino Royale fundraising evening. All the elements of the event have been delegated but the beautiful people who volunteered to head their section need the entire class levels of mums and dads behind them.
We will need teams of people to set up and pack up, we need loads of generous people to donate goods and services and or ask the people around them to. We have already had a couple of generous auction items. One recent donation is a set of car tyres to the value of $600.00, and after the outrageous demands of last year's 'Principal and Deputy for a Day' including the wearing of denim - extended play times - chips and pizza for the homeroom of the outrageous Carbone children we are hoping this will be a big winner again this year.
Our gaming tables are selling quite well with three gone and three to go. The details around getting your business to sponsor a table are detailed later in this letter. A big thank you to ABC Music for being the first in to sponsor a table.
In this letter, we outline the OLOL support for the Morgan Family. As well as this practical help we have asked Father Hayes to offer our next whole school Mass on Sunday 23rd July at 11.15 am and together we will pray for Tim's eternal rest.
Please read the details and watch the trailer for our Fundraising Movie Night. I know it's winter, I know you're busy, but this is SUCH an appropriate film for our school and it should be a marvelous night. So, please clear your diaries (THURSDAY 10TH AUGUST) and come together as a community for what appears to be a fun film with a beautiful message!
As you can see in our next three sections, the beauty and joy of having a youthful staff brings with it such happy events. Congratulations to all of them.
I hope to see everyone at our next Mass SUNDAY 23RD JULY hosted by years 2, 5, and 6.
Please keep hassling for donations and auction prizes - Thank you
As always thank you for your support

The Miracle Club is a comedy film revolving around a trip to LOURDES.
It stars Laura Linney, Kathy Bates, Maggie Smith, and Stephen Rea.
The film's plot is described as a "joyful and hilarious" journey of a group of riotous working-class women from Dublin, whose pilgrimage to Lourdes in France leads them to discover each other's friendship and their own personal miracles."

Firstly during the holidays Miss Bernie married Scott and is now Mrs McKendry! Congratulations and a long and happy life to them both!
I am extremely happy to announce that the wonderful Miss Archer has said yes to Mr Stone's proposal of marriage. There is to be a summer wedding (and I think she's going to ask me to be a bridesmaid) so stay tuned!
Support and Love for the Morgan Family
During Tim's illness and then his sad passing our community really wanted to support the Morgan family. In the moment it was difficult to arrange the best thing as they had lots of lovely family around them. As we all understand the impact of losing such a special and loved member of a family doesn't lessen but the support around you does so now it is our opportunity to help out.
Chloe Williams (who is Georgie Morgan's Mum and Maddie Morgan's Grandmother) is going to cook and prepare meals for the family every weekend to help out with the following week. The way in which we can now help is to contact Laura Farrell (James Murphy's Mum) who, along with the other Class Reps, will coordinate our OLOL support. Depending on what you can offer, Laura will keep in contact with Chloe to provide what she needs.
There are approximately six months left in the year which makes it about 24 weeks. If we can have families support Chloe each week by either preparing meals, (pies, casseroles, vegetables, pasta, even cakes and snacks etc) or Woolworths/Coles shop vouchers, money, boxes of fresh produce or get in contact with Laura who will stay in contact with Chloe.
This is a focused and sustained level of support that I know is appreciated by the whole family. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the group of Class Reps that are spearheading this and Laura for being the front person.
There will be a roster developed and so if you think you are in a position to help once, twice, or regularly over the next couple of months please email Laura at Laurasfarrell@gmail.com
Term 3 Whole School Mass - Sunday 23rd July
We will be celebrating our Term 3 Whole School Mass on Sunday 23rd July at 11:15 am.
As this will be Mrs. Walsh's final Mass as principal of the school it will be held as a special thanksgiving Mass celebrating Francine's 10 years at OLOL School. There will be a communal Morning Tea, hosted by families in Year 2 and 5/6.
The roster is available here. We would appreciate as much help as possible with the setup and tidy up following this extra special Mass.
We understand and appreciate that at times families have other commitments but please know that you can drop your contribution to the Morning Tea off at the Church before the Mass or at school on Friday.
We hope to see lots of you at the Mass in celebration of Mrs. Walsh's 10 years in the OLOL School community.

World Youth Day (WYD) for Miss Murphy and Mr Venier
Tom Venier, Tanya Murphy and other young people from Melbourne will journey to World Youth Day in Portugal with various Catholic communities. Tom and Tanya are joining a group of Educational leaders on the program called Emerging Leaders. All up Melbourne will send around 600 pilgrims from across the Archdiocese. They will join an expected contingent of one million pilgrims from across the globe.
World Youth Day was established by St John Paul II in 1985. The Catholic Church’s largest international youth gathering has occurred every three to four years since. The week-long festivities are an opportunity for encounter, celebration and deepening of faith. Several major events are held, including the Way of the Cross, Vigil and Mass with Pope Francis.
The Emerging Leaders Program
Mr Venier and Miss Murphy will be joining an intensive 17-day formation program open to leaders and upcoming leaders from Schools, Parishes, and Catholic organisations across the Archdiocese. The program provides an opportunity to be more deeply immersed in the principals of discipleship, Christian leadership, prayer, and evangelisation. Accompanied by experts from Australia as well as guest lectures from international leaders in their fields that will join the group in the select cities of Rome, Assisi and Lisbon.
We congratulate Tom and Tanya on both being chosen for this wonderful opportunity. Their replacement teachers will be confirmed shortly and we wish them both a fun and valuable experience.
I have noticed many students in middle school (Years 3 and 4) not wearing an art smock. When we discussed this it appeared many of them had outgrown the smock they had purchased for them in grade prep. EVERY CHILD is to have an art smock for art lessons. OLOL sells the school art smocks from the office.
Art Smocks are available to order via the SZapp and cost $35.
Congratulations to all the Student of the Week Award winners from Term 2 Week 9. These students exemplified the value of; Taking Risks.

Scouts - Join the Adventure - All Welcome
More than 22,000 young people, and adults are part of Scouts Victoria, from a wide range of cultural and religious backgrounds. We’re diverse and inclusive, proudly supporting people with physical or intellectual disabilities so we can all enjoy adventurous activities.
All Ages
Scouting is all about the healthy development of young people, preparing them for a constructive and active life ahead.
From the time they start school, children as young as five can become Joey Scouts. Older children and teens can join us along the way, even if they haven’t been involved in Scouting before.
Scouts are aged from 5 to 25, and adventurous adults of any age are always welcome as new Leaders.
Gender
Girls have been Scouts in Australia since the 1970s, and all our activities are equal opportunity. More than a third of our youth members are female.
Gender diversity is also supported and respected.
Additional needs
We welcome members with physical or intellectual disabilities, and we’ll include you in as many activities as possible. Some of the Groups specialise in activities for Scouts with disabilities, while all of them will do their best to make you feel welcome and included.
You can probably help us learn some useful skills too. Scouts have tried their hands at reading Braille and communicating with Auslan sign language. Some have even tried painting their Leader with a paint brush held in their feet!
We want to broaden our understanding of your everyday challenges, so we can help remove the barriers.
Backgrounds
Scouts come from many different backgrounds and cultures.
Many Scouts were born overseas or raised by parents who’ve retained traditions from other countries. All new members are welcomed into their Scout Groups and treated with respect.
Inclusiveness and diversity are values at the heart of Scouting activities. Members from different ethnic backgrounds can help their group learn about cultures, languages and spiritual beliefs. Younger Scouts might start a conversation through tasting foods from different nations. Older Scouts are encouraged to appreciate social and political differences at a deeper level, preparing them for travel or career.
Religion
Scouts Victoria welcomes members from all religions and we encourage the spiritual development of our members.
It’s true that Scouting was founded on traditional Christian values, and Sir Robert Baden-Powell often referred to God. But, as the movement grew, his writings and speeches referred to all religions.
In the century since then, we’ve continued to adapt and evolve, welcoming all faiths. The Scout promise refers to “my spiritual beliefs” instead of “God”.
