Dear Parents,
Thank you so so much to those families that were able to make it to the whole school Mass on Sunday. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a disappointing attendance. (I do acknowledge the apologies I received and thank you for taking the time to make them).
I know winter is hard. We compete with all sorts of sports and I know 11.15am is hard as it makes making a lunch event very difficult - but IF you can please make a big effort for our next whole school Mass. These Masses are a really important school community cultural event and it's deflating when the attendance is weak.
OUR NEXT WHOLE SCHOOL MASS IS SUNDAY 23RD JULY AT 11.15AM AT OLOL CHURCH - Please write it in your calendars now!
We just had our football team return from a well-played but not trophied premiership. Well done OLOL Footy Team. Yesterday our netball team was victorious!!! We just can't believe OLOL has brought home TWO Interschool Shields in as many months! The last time we won the netball premiership was when Aimee Dummett was in Year 4 and now she's 27!!!!
Thank you to all those who came to or sent in offers of help for Tuesday Evening's Fundraising Ideas night. There is a full report later in the newsletter and we're very excited for what should be a huge night of fun, finances, and glamour.
Thank you for your continued support,
Francine
We are asking that all students donate $5, with all money raised going to the St Vincent de Paul society.
There will also be a donation box visiting each classroom if students would like to make an additional donation.
The SRC are looking forward to seeing all students dressed in their favourite winter outfit!
A little goes a long way!
Congratulations to Juliette, Stella, Max, Sasha, Vivi, Georgina, Angus, Nico, Charlie and Freddie SB on their efforts. The whole OLOL community is proud of your efforts and how you represented yourselves and the school.
Report from Fundraising Ideas Meeting
I know my targets are high but we didn't get a hundred parents to Tuesday evening’s Fundraising meeting. HOWEVER we did have all the right people there. People who were so invested in this event that we had the whole thing sorted in an hour!
I’d like to add that we had heaps of apologies and promises of help as well - parents were just not able to get to the actual meeting.
So after a little spiel from me about parents partnering with the school to achieve great things the following items were agreed upon.
CASINO ROYALE
SATURDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER
$75.00 A TICKET (Including gambling money and food)
Please invite friends for the evening, more fun for you, more money for us!! Also great advertising for the school.
We decided to allocate year groups to specific parts of the event with a co-ordinator that will meet with Adrian, Tanya or me for clarification. Even though there is a reporting line, the decisions/communication, choices (and work) are essentially yours. Having school involvement simply keeps us on track.
Even though we allocated ‘Areas of Responsibility’ to different year groups IF you have expertise in an area that you have not been allocated we are quite happy if you jump groups.
Part of the way we will make money on the night is through the silent and live auctions and although we have year levels and co-ordinators we need the WHOLE school community to pitch and and use their contacts to donate to this major aspect of the night.

A couple of other things that were also decided upon during the meeting. As this weekend is Father’s Day weekend - the school will not be holding its traditional Fathers Day events.
There will be other supporting fundraisers during the later half of the year. These are outlined below It was also decided that the proceeds from this year’s art auction will also go to the building (I’ve yet to break that news to Miss Vivarelli).
So that's it from Tuesday Night - the only job now is to work together to raise our target of $30,000.00.
Movie Night - The Miracle Club
The Miracle Club is a comedy film revolving around a trip to LOURDES. It is directed by Thaddeus O'Sullivan and stars Laura Linney, Kathy Bates, Maggie Smith, and Stephen Rea.
The film's plot is described as a "joyful and hilarious" journey of a group of riotous working-class women from Dublin, whose pilgrimage to Lourdes in France leads them to discover each other's friendship and their own personal miracles."
We will be holding a fundraising evening with this most appropriate film when it iis released in August.

Children who have symptoms of gastroenteritis (nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, abdominal pain, headache and/or muscle aches) should remain home until 48 hours have passed since their last symptom. Schools are unfortunately petri-dishes for these viruses therefore it is important that all parents adhere to this advice.

I would ask that all parents examine their child’s hair for signs of lice infestation. These usually first appear as eggs or nits, tiny silvery white specks attached to the hair shaft near the scalp.
If you find eggs in your child’s hair please treat immediately and do not send your child back to school until the eggs have been removed as well as treated.
Please note that you do need to check the hair for any eggs and remove them either by using the supplied comb or by pulling the egg off the hair strand with your finger nails.
Please make sure that you do regular checks on your child’s hair. If eggs are left, the lice will reinfest. It is also advisable to retreat the hair 7 days after the first treatment. It is also very important for all girls with long hair to wear it tied back.
We also received this flyer recently from a hairdresser offering a mobile head lice service which may be of interest to some parents.
