Dear Parents,
It's great to be back from parental leave, where I had the wonderful opportunity to spend some quality time with my family. Spending time with Amalia over the past 6 weeks has been precious and rewarding, filled with love, joy and being able to watch her grow. Coffee is my best friend at the moment!
This week, our Principal, Mrs Walsh, is away attending a conference in the Northern Territory. It is a great opportunity for her to learn and exchange ideas with other educational leaders. We wish her a productive and inspiring time during her conference.
Last week, we organised a highly successful Walk to School Day. Students, parents, and teachers all came together to promote the benefits of walking to school. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces and active bodies, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable community.
Our recent Year 3 and 4 camp to Healesville was an absolute hit! The students had a fantastic time participating in various activities and were especially thrilled to visit Healesville Sanctuary. They learned about native wildlife and conservation efforts, making lasting memories and broadening their knowledge outside the classroom.
Over the past few weeks, we have been fortunate to have Australian Catholic University students join us to teach key science concepts. Our students have been captivated by their engaging lessons, sparking curiosity and a love for science.
On Wednesday, May 31st, we will be hosting a series of activities based on the beloved fairytale The Gingerbread Man. This initiative aims to cultivate our student's love for reading and storytelling. Be prepared for an exciting and engaging morning filled with literacy-based fun! Students are to also wear sports uniform on this day.
Calling all parents and community members! We will be holding a school fundraising meeting on Tuesday, June 6th, at 7 pm in the OLOL Parish Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend and contribute ideas to support our school. Let's work together to make a positive difference in the lives of our students.
Good luck to our Year 4 to 6 students who will be participating in the upcoming annual Holt Netball and Football Lightning Premierships. May you play with passion, sportsmanship, and have a memorable time showcasing your skills.
Go pies!
Adrian
Student Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews
Student Reports will go home at the end of Term Two as usual. Reports will be available to parents from 4pm on Friday 16th June (Week Eight). New families will be sent a portal invitation at the beginning of next term.
Parent/Teacher Interviews however will take place at the beginning of Term Three.
As the world returns to normal and people are able to travel again, we have many staff away on leave at the end of Term 2. Therefore we will be running Parent-Teacher interviews in Week One of Term Three rather than Week Ten of Term Two.
On Wednesday 12th July school will finish at 1.00 pm to allow the interviews to begin at 1.15 and go until 7.00 pm that evening.
Our Year 3 and 4 students recently embarked on an exciting school camp to Candlebark Farm in Healesville. From archery and canoeing to a thrilling flying fox ride, our students fearlessly took on new challenges and had loads of fun under the guidance of amazing instructors. They also tackled the low ropes course, working together and finding creative solutions to overcome obstacles.
When it was time to unwind, our students enjoyed playing in the games shed, engaging in friendly competitions and bonding with their friends. After dinner, the students gathered for a movie session and watched Daddy Day Care.
The adventure continued the next day with a visit to Healesville Sanctuary, where our students explored the wonders of Australian wildlife. They got up close with native animals, learned about their habitats, and even participated in an educational program, becoming conservation superheroes.
Throughout the camp, our students showed incredible resilience, enthusiasm, and teamwork. They pushed their limits, cheered each other on, and formed tighter bonds with their classmates and teachers. This camp was all about personal growth, boosting confidence, and making lifelong memories.
SRC - Winter Wonderland Fundraiser
We are asking that all students donate $5, with all money raised going to the St Vincent de Paul society.
There will also be a donation box visiting each classroom if students would like to make an additional donation.
The SRC are looking forward to seeing all students dressed in their favourite winter outfit!
A little goes a long way!
Children who have symptoms of gastroenteritis (nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever, abdominal pain, headache and/or muscle aches) should remain home until 48 hours have passed since their last symptom. Schools are unfortunately petri-dishes for these viruses therefore it is important that all parents adhere to this advice.
There have been two reported cases of Head Lice in the Prep/One classes over the past week so, with that in mind, I would ask that all parents examine their child’s hair for signs of lice infestation. These usually first appear as eggs or nits, tiny silvery white specks attached to the hair shaft near the scalp.
If you find eggs in your child’s hair please treat immediately and do not send your child back to school until the eggs have been removed as well as treated.
Please note that you do need to check the hair for any eggs and remove them either by using the supplied comb or by pulling the egg off the hair strand with your finger nails.
Please make sure that you do regular checks on your child’s hair. If eggs are left, the lice will reinfest. It is also advisable to retreat the hair 7 days after the first treatment. It is also very important for all girls with long hair to wear it tied back.
We also received this flyer recently from a hairdresser offering a mobile head lice service which may be of interest to some parents.
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
