I sincerely hope that ALL mothers and grandmothers or other significant women of OLOL have made room in their busy schedules to join us on:
Friday morning from 8.00 am.
As many of you know, I do not have children of my own and therefore I sometimes feel, I may not have the ability to fully understand the depth of your role as a mother, but I do completely understand the incredible dedication and love you have for your children. You are not just a caregiver or a teacher, you are a hero in the lives of your children.
Being a mother or grandmother is a full-time job, and we know that you are always working hard to ensure that your children and grandchildren are happy, healthy, and successful. You are the first teachers in their lives, and your influence on their education cannot be overstated.
I understand that being a mother of young children can be overwhelming at times. You may feel like you are constantly juggling between managing your own life, caring for your children, and ensuring their academic success. It's important to remember that you are doing a great job and that your effort and dedication is (or at last will be) appreciated by your children.
In this crucial stage of your child's life, you play a key role in shaping their future. Your love, support, and guidance will have a lasting impact on their development and well-being. Take the time to be present with your children, to listen to them, to understand their struggles, and to celebrate their achievements. Often Grandmothers have a little more time to listen and this is the beauty of intergenerational love.
Thank you for all that you do for your children. You are making a difference in their lives, in their school, and in the world.
I wish you all a very Happy Mother's Day this Sunday.
Francine
After our last newsletter and Donation Thermometer update, we received several significant contributions to our $80,000.00 donation goal.
As you can see from the thermometer we have hit $20,000.00 THANK YOU!
There are only six weeks left of this financial year and so we are asking that you take advantage of the tax benefit of making a donation in time before June 30th, 2023.
May Month of Mary (The Rosary)
“All generations shall call me blessed.”
(Luke 1:48)
Traditionally Catholics dedicate the month of May to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. The practice dates back at least 700 years. Our faith and tradition teaches us that Mary is a special sign of God’s love. Mary leads us to Jesus. We invite all parents to spend a moment of reflection in our beautiful grotto area outside Miss Archer's room. You might like to spend some quiet time in informal prayer or pray a Hail Mary.
Holt Interschool Cross Country
The Holt Interschool Cross Country was held at Bald Hill Park on Friday 5th May. The weather gods were shining as clear skies greeted the students upon arrival for what would be a fierce day of competition!
There were lots of emotions, with the usual nerves and excitement, but there was a real sense of determination amongst the OLOL team knowing they had all been training at Running Club.
The pressure was on after a impressrive 3rd place last year and OLOL came back and DELIVERED, finishing in 1ST and WINNING the percentage shield. The percentage shield is calculated on the number of students in Years 3 to 6. In simple terms, pound for pound OLOL is the best school in the Holt District!
In the overall shield, we finished an incredible 2nd place which is a mighty effort compared to some of the larger school in the district.
Well done to all students who finished in the Top 20 in their age group. We had a record result of students in the top 20 and students who finished in the top 8 in their age group progress to the Beachside Division.

Quotes from the Athletes
Freddie Stayt-Butler - It was fun and it was great to compete against the other schools and I'm proud that we won!
Sasha Robertson - It was great that lots of OLOL students made the Beachside Division and many finished on the podium!
Angus Krezel - It was a hard run, the other schools did very well. I'm proud that I ran my best!
Vivi Meldrum - There was great competition, it was a tough but fun day. I'm so happy we won!
Juliette Wilden - OLOL were amazing, it was a surprise to come first and Running Club helped us train and prepare for the day! Go OLOL!
Congratulations to ALL the students for their efforts across the day. It was a real team effort with students competing in the right spirit and showing the other schools not only how to perform on the course, but also how to support, cheer and celebrate the success of others!
The result is a reflection of all the student's hard work and effort at Running Club. Running isn't everyone's favourite activity, but this result shows that when you dedicate yourself to something and work hard, that great things can be achieved!
The highlight of the day was seeing the happiness, joy, and smiles on the students' faces when the results were announced. It was a moment that all of the teachers, parents, and students won't ever forget!
Bring on 2024!

Camp Itinerary and Packing Requirements
If your child takes any form of medication this MUST be given to the Staff attending the Camp along with the Medication Authority Form. Students must not have any medication in their bags. Medication cannot be administered without a completed form. The forms are available at the Office or linked below.
Please note: This form is not required if we have a Health Care Plan for asthma or anaphylaxis from your child's GP already on file.
Where we can, we avoid mid week camps as often the students come home tired from a busy couple of days. This was not possible due to the popularity of this great camp. If you are able to keep your child home the next day or even send them into school after a sleep in that would be great. We will of course be open and will run a more relaxed timetable on the Wednesday for families who cannot keep their child home.

Just a reminder that if you are dropping your child/ren off to school in the mornings and need to go back down Wynnstay Road please do a u-turn at the top end of the street beyond the crossing, do not u-turn in front of the school.
As the weather gets more challenging, parents begin complicating our very simple system by picking up children. I understand it's cold out there (believe me we know, we're doing the duty). But by not following our rules you make things difficult for both the school and our neighbours.
SO ... ONCE AGAIN, WE ASK THAT ALL PARENTS PARK IN NEIGHBOURING STREETS AND WALK DOWN TO THE SCHOOL AND THEN WALK THEIR CHILD/CHILDREN BACK TO THE CAR.
PLEASE LEAVE THE SPEEDY PICK-UP AREA FOR PARENTS WITH TODDLERS AND BABIES IN THE CAR.
De La Salle - Choir Visit to School of Rock
Under Miss Bernies guiding hand we are trying to valiantly build our choir. As a sweetener, we took our choir members to see the dress rehearsal of The School of Rock at De La Salle College.
It is always great to see another school's production and makes us extra excited about our own upcoming performance. De La Salle made us very welcome and provided us all with branded jelly beans and a pen!

Walk to School on Friday 19th May
WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 19 MAY 2023
May 19 will mark National Walk Safely to School Day an event when all Primary School children will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to school.
If you would like to take part in walking to school you are welcome to join us at Orrong Romanis at 8:15am where we will walk a lap or two of the oval before coming back to school.
We hope to see lots of you there!
We have received a number of requests recently for archived documents such as old reports and NAPLAN results. The school does not have the administrative capacity to be retrieving documents that have already been sent to parents. We know that it’s often difficult for families to keep track of these documents so we are informing you ahead of both the June reports and imminent NAPLAN results to please ensure you keep them safe as the school is unable to keep up with the constant retrieval requests.
