Dear Parents,
Two days ago we launched our
Building Fund Appeal.
We sent out a special letter to all families with a big explanation and lots of lovely photos of what we are raising money for.
Interestingly we only had 65% of the community open the letter - may I suggest you open the letter because it is a really exciting letter!!!
The other interesting thing is we had one amazing family instantly donate $5,000.00 which means our fundraising thermometer - see below is already showing that our appeal is off and running.
The important thing about this appeal is that the classroom space we are building - we will be building immediately! The second important thing is that your donations are tax-deductible (see the request for receipt form below).
Please go to the Launch Letter [March 28th] and have a look at the beauty of what we are trying to achieve and why.
Other than that we have had an amazing full wonderful term. I would like to thank the staff for all the work, parents for your engagement, and students for just being your wonderful selves.
Please see the Our Lady of Lourdes and St Peters Parish Holy Week and Easter Mass and Services Timetable at the end of this newsletter. There are many opportunities during this time for family participation in the Easter ceremonies it would be great to see some of our students at the Holy Week and Easter ceremonies. I wish you and your families a happy and Holy Easter and look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday 26th April for the beginning of yet another jam-packed fabulous term.
Stay safe,
Francine

WOW! We have been overwhelmed by the engagement in our foam egg family project. We can't thank you enough for shopping for craft materials, conversations about the Easter Story, hours spent together creating such a beautiful art piece and the excitement this special project has created in our school community and beyond!
The Eggspo will be open to parents from Monday morning to come and admire more than 90 eggs, celebrate the unique creations and vote for your winning egg. We will be awarding the winning families on Thursday at the Raffle. There will be a 'Peoples' Choice' (chosen by parents, toddlers/siblings, parishioners and staff) and a 'Students' Choice' (chosen by the students of OLOL). To vote for your favourite egg pick up a coloured dot from the Office and place it next to your favourite egg.
Thank you again!
SRC News - The 4D's Fundraiser
The 4D’s stand for; denim, dancing, a donut and a drink.
We are asking that all students donate $5, with all money raised going to Caritas. Students can wear their favourite denim outfits, dance together in their classroom and enjoy a donut and a drink.
There will also be a donation box visiting each classroom if students would like to make an additional donation.
The SRC are looking forward to seeing all students dressed in their favourite denim outfit ready for a fun day!
- The SRC Team
Please join us at Our Lady of Lourdes Church (631 High Street, Prahran) on Wednesday afternoon for a moving portrayal of the Passion of Christ.
Wednesday 5th April at 2:30 pm
Students that are in Years 2, 5 and 6 - who are part of the production are asked to have all costumes (as per the letter already sent out) brought into school by tomorrow in a labelled plastic bag. Thank you
Key dates for the Easter Raffle are:
Wednesday, 5th April – Final Day for Easter egg donation
Wednesday, 5th April – Final Day for the return of raffle tickets
Thursday, 6th April – Raffle drawn at 11.30am in the school hall
Easter egg hamper wrapping will take place in the Art Room at 8.30am on Wednesday (5th April). If you are available to come in and lend a hand it would be much appreciated. Remember, many hands make light work!!
All proceeds from the raffle will benefit the children at OLOL.
Many thanks and best of luck!
Student Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews
Student Reports will go home at the end of Term Two as usual. Reports will be available to parents from 4pm on Friday 16th June (Week Eight). New families will be sent a portal invitation at the beginning of next term.
Parent/Teacher Interviews however will take place at the beginning of Term Three.
As the world returns to normal and people are able to travel again, we have many staff away on leave at the end of Term 2. Therefore we will be running Parent-Teacher interviews in Week One of Term Three rather than Week Ten of Term Two.
On Wednesday 12th July school will finish at 1.00 pm to allow the interviews to begin at 1.15 and go until 7.00 pm that evening.
2023 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge
The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 8 September 2023.
Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.
All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.
To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklist and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: https://www.vic.gov.au/

We have recently had a few students coming to school with Nutella sandwiches. Please be aware that OLOL has several students with allergies and anaphylaxis reactions to a variety of nuts and therefore we ask that you refrain from packing any items containing nuts (this includes Nutella, peanut butter, nut and muesli bars) so that our school is safe for these children. We thank you for your vigilance in this matter.
As usual, OLOL will be running Chess and Lego Clubs again in Terms Two and Three of this year. We like to offer students the chance to learn to play Chess and Lego when the weather is less inviting than in Terms One and Four. Also, new to OLOL this term is Coding Club which will be run during the winter terms too.Coding Club is open to students in Years 3-6 and requires a mimimum of 6 students in order for it to run.
I thought this might be a good time to outline all the clubs that OLOL runs, on what days/times they are held, and how you can make contact with the organisers of the different activities if you are interested in being involved. All Providers run independently of the school but as they are using our school come under our strict Child Safety Standards.
