Dear Parents,
This letter is full of gratitude. We've received lots of lovely feedback about the Centenary celebrations and so we've shared the written ones with you.
I would also like to thank everyone who came to the Welcome Picnic at Lumley Park. It was a great attendance with good numbers from the families in Prep to Year Five. Unfortunately, Year Six was not represented to the same extent but we've had a class discussion about our leaders supporting the school in all its aspects. We have to congratulate 3/4M with an enthusiastic 70% attendance rate closely followed by P/1R with 69%. The school always understands when families have clashes between school events and family events but if everyone could make 2023 a year of involvement that would be great.
We will shortly be advertising a parent engagement evening where everyone will be invited to come together and discuss as a community how we can best engage and utilise parents in the 2020s. Watch this space and start thinking of ideas.
Miss Archer and the RE team have come up with a most beautiful family Easter activity. The school has purchased plain, large, styrofoam Easter eggs. Each family is asked to collectively design what they might do with their egg and then make it together where you can. These Eggs actually cost us a fair bit of money but I really believe the discussion and talk around the design and development of the egg, (perhaps even the Easter story) makes it worth the cost of the eggs. If your family decides not to participate - please send the plain egg back to school where it can be reallocated.
Also, just one more thing. We traditionally hold an Easter Raffle - which is very exciting for all concerned but we don't actually have a P&F at the moment to run it. I'm wondering if a few available parents would volunteer to organise it for the school. It's not a massive job and as always many hands make light work. So we'd be very grateful if a couple of you might volunteer to run it for us. It might be nice for a class group to run it.
Finally CONGRATULATIONS to our marvelous Swim Squad! There is an article in this newsletter outlining OLOL's amazing results and the way Swim Squad makes the students feel. We need to thank Mr. Podbury and Miss Murphy for giving of their own time so early in the morning to make squad training possible. We also thank all the parents who support the program in many different ways - most notably making breakfast back at school for all the hungry swimmers. Thank you all very much and congratulations again to our talented swimmers.
Have a great week - enjoy autumn,
Regards
Francine
Congratulations James Murphy - Stonnington Reading Challenge
Congratulations to James Murphy who won 2nd prize in the Stonnington Library Big Summer Read Competition. James won an interactive Rubiks Cube that will teach him how to solve it.
Open Days and Prep Enrolments for 2024
Also, below are the dates of our Open Days for this year. As I have mentioned in previous years, although we are very strategic with our marketing approach, the best possible marketing strategy is happy OLOL parents telling others about our marvellous school. Please keep getting the word out there.
This year OLOL will be running an Egg-Cellent Easter Competition!
Each family will receive an Easter Egg to decorate together. These eggs will be sent home with the students today (Thursday 2nd March).
The Easter Eggs will form an Easter Eggspo and so will need to be brought into school on the morning of Friday 31st March and will be available to view on Wednesday 5th April. Parents are invited to check out the artwork at the Eggspo! The winners will be announced at the Easter Raffle.
The Faith Leaders have created a great slideshow of ideas for your egg, please be as creative as you can!
If you would like us to share a photo of your family creating your egg to be shared on our Social Media accounts please email irene.archer@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au
Easter Eggspo
Wednesday 5th April 9:00am-11:00am
If you do not wish to take part in the competition please return your egg to school as soon as possible so that it can be given to a family who would like to submit two entries to the competition.
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good that we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion. Each child received a Project Compassion box for their donations. Please return all Project Compassion boxes to the school office by Friday 19th May or donate online via the Caritas website at lent.caritas.org.au
