Dear Parents,
We have had a big focus on Team Sports participation this year and going on our data which we shared with you earlier in the year the uptake has been fabulous. We will be continuing this focus in 2023 but in the meantime, we're just doing a little reminder that when the opportunity arises please get your kids involved. Ah Ha! One such opportunity has just arisen!
Toorak Prahran Cricket Club (TPCC) has been recently holding clinics with our students at OLOL to help teach them cricket.
HERE'S THE OPPORTUNITY - They are holding a cricket camp in the week ending 23 December 2022 – it is open to all children whether they are TPCC members or not. The camp will cover:
- hard ball and soft ball cricket programs
- boys and girls
- and all equipment is provided by the club
- OLOL students get an automatic 50% fee reduction
Rachel has put more information and the registration links to this team sports opportunity below. Please read it.
It is our hope that this cricket camp is overrun by OLOL students!
We are definitely on the countdown now. Our final Prep Orientation was held today, the Democracy Sauage Sizzle is on Saturday with the big Welcome Mass on Sunday. Then we're into WEEK 9!!! Testing is being analysed, reports are being finalised, Swim Squad is back, carols are being practiced, teachers are exhausted, and parents are busy the only thing missing to truly indicate we're at the end of the year is some hot weather!!!
So with that ... thank you to everyone who has put their name down on either Saturday's Election Sausage Sizzle roster or The Welcome Mass for next year's families roster and we look forward to seeing everyone who can at the Mass on Sunday (11.15 am).
As always thank you for making OLOL the busy, buzzing, happy school that it is,
Francine
P&F Election BBQ - This Saturday!
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help at the Election Day Sausage Sizzle - the roster is now full!!
To all of our families, please come along and support our school on Saturday 26th November and buy a sausage or two!
Thank you
Welcome Mass for Prep 2023 Families
Sunday, 27th November 2022
11.15 am
Our Lady of Lourdes Church
631 High Street, Prahran East
Sunday 27th November is the First Sunday of Advent - it is also our Welcome Mass for next year's Prep Families. Although this year’s Prep and Year 1 families are hosting the Mass and Morning Tea which follows, it would be a great thing if the whole school was present in order for all these new families and students to feel that they are truly becoming part of a very special community.
Please remember that all school leaders should absolutely be present at this Mass.
Calling all Prep and Year One Families!!
This Sunday, 27th November, we will be welcoming all new 2023 families to the school at our Term 4 Whole School Mass. This Mass is traditionally hosted by P/1 families, which for P/1 parents/carers involves helping with morning tea set up, serving hot drinks and helping to pack up afterwards.
If you are able to help out on the day, please enter your name against the activity/time slot that suits you best in the Sign Up sheet - and please don't worry if you're not sure what's involved! Members of the P&F will be on hand to help you out.
Please also remember to 'bring a plate' to be shared at morning tea. Plates should be dropped into the Parish Hall prior to mass commencing.
Kind regards and thank you for your assistance,
OLOL P&F

We Still Need Some Serious Muscle - Calling All Parents, Classroom Moving Day
In 2023 there will be quite a lot of movement of classrooms.
We really need a lot of help to move essentially tables and chairs from one room to another. I hesitate to write that we really need some dads to help with this but what we do need is strong fit 'people' to give us a hand to move stuff.
On Wednesday 14th of December, we will require some help from any parents who are free to lend us a hand. We hope this will only take us a couple of hours to complete and will begin at 9.00am.
If you are available to lend us a hand please fill out the form below and Adrian McAlister will be in touch.
THANK YOU
Prep to Year 5 Christmas Excursion - Permission Forms Due Tomorrow!!
As a celebration for the end of the school year, all students in Prep to Year 5 will be enjoying a cinema excursion. We will all be going to see the film 'The Nutcracker and The Magic Flute'. The excursion will take place on Thursday 8th December (the same day as the Year 6 Fun Day Out.)
Students, staff and parent helpers will leave OLOL at 11:00am and travel by train from Toorak Train Station to South Yarra Train Station. We will then walk from South Yarra Train Station to Como Cinema (located on the corner of Toorak Road and Chapel Street).
Students will eat their lunch before the movie begins at 12:30pm. (Please note the movie is rated a PG.)
Following the movie we will head back to school via train.
A very special thanks goes to Lisa Collinson for her help in organising this excursion for OLOL.
Please complete the permission form before Friday 25th November.
Welcome to the World Ciaran Walsh!
Our warmest congratulations go to the Walsh family on the arrival of baby Ciaran. Ciaran is brother to Cormac Walsh in Year 3/4A.
Christmas Carols - Thursday 15th December
On Thursday 15th December there will be a whole school celebration incorporating Christmas Carols, Year 6 Graduation Ceremony and End of Year Disco. The evening will begin in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 6:00pm. The Carols and Graduation Ceremony will be followed by the Disco at the school. All students will be part of this event so please save the date.
Each class has been assigned a special role in the Christmas Carol Service, please do not feel you have to go out and buy costumes, a homemade costume looks just as good!
Costume details for each class are as follows:

From Dr. Edward Simons, Acting Director of MACS
Dr. Edward Simons, Acting Director of Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) has asked us to share the following message and invitation with you.
Dear Parent,
I am writing to seek your input into a review currently being undertaken on the Religious Education (RE) Curriculum in Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. The Review is being led by Ms Netina Giacco, Professor John Haldane and Professor Gerard O’Shea.
A crucial part of this review is learning from the perspectives of school parents. To gather that input, I warmly encourage you to complete a survey on RE in Catholic schools.
The survey can be accessed and completed via this link: https://onlinesurvey.cecv.catholic.edu.au/surveys/2022-RE-Curriculum-Review-Survey
The survey questions are broad and open-ended, in order to allow you to provide as much or as little input as you feel appropriate. You can complete it with any, and varying, level of detail - as you see fit.
Contribution to the survey will be anonymous, although the survey does request some demographic information about you, in order to contextualise results.
In acknowledging the challenges and pressures on everyone at this time of year, the deadline for responses has been set to 20 December 2022.
I am grateful for your assistance and support in this important work.
As you know, Commonwealth and State Government grants do not cover the whole cost of running Catholic schools. Each year we rely on a local contribution from parents/carers to help cover the education costs for each student. This is achieved through the setting and collection of school fees and levies, which we review annually, to ensure that not only the school remains financially viable but continues to be accessible to families who value a Catholic Education.
In consultation with the Business Manager and School Advisory Council, the 2023 fees for the school will be as follows:
Family Fee (per family) |
2023 Fees |
Family Fee - 1 Child |
$2,915 |
Family Fee - 2 Children |

Fee Statements
All families will receive their school fee account in the first few weeks of Term 1. School fee accounts are billed for the full year on the first statement. Follow up statements are mailed at the beginning of Term 2, 3 & 4 showing the current balance.
Several payment options, listed over, are available to suit your family situation. If you are electing to pay your 2023 school fees via Direct Debit, we ask you to return the Direct Debit Payment Slip with the financial commitment letter. Payments will not commence until the date indicated.
Any family who is experiencing difficulties in meeting their financial commitments or wishing to discuss alternate fee payment arrangements for 2023, should arrange a time to meet with me. In line with the MACS Concessional Fee Policy, discounted fees are available for families experiencing financial difficulty (including those on an eligible HCC).
As ever thank you for your support,
Francine

HEALTH CARE CARD HOLDERS
The CSEF (Camps, Sports & Excursion Fund) is provided by the Victorian Government for eligible students to attend camps, sports and excursions. CSEF forms are available from the school office.
Families holding an eligible Centrelink Health Care Card (HCC) or Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) are eligible to apply for this allowance and are strongly encouraged to do so. $125 per year will be paid to schools for eligible students. This amount will be deducted from your child’s Excursion or Camp Levy as the payment comes through.
Existing families who have been approved for CSEF funding will automatically be renewed in 2023.

TPCC has been working with the students at OLOL to help teach them cricket. They are holding a cricket camp in the week ending 23 December 2022 – it is open to all children in any suburbs of Melbourne regardless of whether they are TPCC members or not.
The camps provide the opportunity for skill development through specialised sessions and matches in conjunction with providing all children with the opportunity to have fun playing cricket with friends during the school holidays.
The sessions integrated into the camps are directed at those seeking to develop basic skills, to those children wanting to significantly advance their games from 12 to 23 December 2022. It covers hard ball and soft ball cricket programs – boys and girls – equipment is provided by the club.
We are also having an all-girls cricket day on 19 December 2022 to promote female sports.
It is offered at 50% off for all children at OLOL Primary.
The only additional thing to do is enter the promotion code “2008” to waive 50% of the fee.
(If there are any blockers to your child attending this great local opportunity please let the school know to see if we can support you with those obstacles.)
Please feel free to pass this on to any families who you think would benefit even if they are not at OLOL Primary and would not either participate if they had to pay the fee.
All children need to register online; there will be no registration on the day.
