Dear Parents,
The best thing about the Art Show last Friday evening was that WE'RE BACK!!!!!
Such a successful occasion on so many levels.
1. The fact that nearly every family in the school was able to come and experience what a whole school event really feels like.
2. Being able to recognise Mrs Viverelli and the quantity and standard of the students' artwork.
3. The pride of the students in showing their families around the school and pointing out their own beautiful works of art.
4. The level of excitement caused by the Class Art Work auction. For an entire week, students had been buzzing around the front foyer admiring the different classes' works and deciding theirs was the best of the lot.
5. The P&F roster got filled.
So many things to be grateful for.
A HUGE THANK YOU to:
Our Arts Captains: Lily, Mila, Joshua, and Vicente who helped staff all day Thursday to ensure the art was displayed in a most beautiful manner.
Classroom teachers for their flexibility in having school bags, spare furniture, etc in classrooms for the period of the exhibition.
To our phenomenal team of ESOs; Di, Fiona, Anne, Robyn, Tracey, and Nicole for spending all Thursday and most of Friday lugging furniture, pinning artwork, arranging objet d'art, and generally making the art show the spectacular event it is.
To Jordarna and P & F for enabling our school to feel like the OLOL of old. Having a sausage sizzle and bar has long been the dual tenets of the OLOL Parents and Friends constitution and to see entire families up there on Friday eating and socialising together was a beautiful thing.
Thank you too to Lisa Shaw for her lovely aesthetic skills with the front of school paint pots and table centres.
The final big thank you goes to God - for holding the rain off!
The success of The Art Show has made the entire community very excited about our two next big events:
Welcome Mass and Morning Tea - Nov 27th Sunday - 11.15 am
and then
Carols Graduation and End of Year Disco - Dec 15th Thursday - 6.00 pm
There are lots of upcoming events outlined in this newsletter and I urge you to read it carefully and pop things in your diary - this is the busy end of the year.
Thank you all for your ongoing support,
Francine

Before School Care Service Run by Parents
Before School Care Minding Roster
Some parents have banded together to trial an initiative to support a before school care minding service run by parents.
Proposed trial period:
Monday 7 November - Friday 16 December (6 weeks).
The ask:
Parents to choose three days in the 6 week period that they are able to be the “parent/caregiver on duty” from 7.45am – 8.30am. This duty can also be delegated to an ‘approved person’ such as a grandparent, aunty/uncle.
The benefits:
This would give each family part of the rotation program access to before school minding on all weekdays 7.45am-8.30am.
What we need to get this started:
8-10 families to support the initiative.
This would equate to the parent/caregiver being in charge of a maximum of 8-15 children (TBD based on family composition).
Rules:
- Parent/caregiver must have valid WCCC.
- Parent/caregiver to review and familiarise themselves with general OLOL rules (time out etc.)
- Parent/caregiver to familiarise themselves with first aid access, familiarisation with play areas and toilets etc.
- Adrian and/or Francine are typically on the grounds from 7.30am however they should only be a point of escalation in emergencies. This is a program set up and managed by the parent/caregiver community.
- No other children permitted on grounds (babies/toddlers).
If you are interested in participating in this trial program, please email Nicole Jackson at Nicole.Jackson@pwc.com by Monday 31 October.
There were some tired and weary faces walking off the bus yesterday when the 3/4 students returned from camp. The kids and teachers had a great time participating in a Critter Hunt, Narmbool Challenge, Meet the Beaks with Martin Scuffins, Aquatic Sampling and Create a Critter activity. In the evening the students enjoyed a bowl of Spaghetti Bolognese before competing in a Trivia competition with their team. We have already received very positive feedback on the Narmbool Camp which is great as this is the first time OLOL has camped there.
On Saturday 26th November (Victorian State Election Day) OLOL is being used as a polling venue. As a result, the P&F is organising our Sausage Sizzle.
It's time to put your name on a shift and take your place in the age-old tradition of the primary school election day sausage sizzle.
This is actually quite a fun thing to be part of and we ask you to be generous with your time and pop yourself on the roster for a shift.
Apart from the fact that it is a great way to meet people in our community that you have not met before it is a terrific opportunity to welcome people to our school which in turn could lead to enrolments. I will make a marketing board in the foyer and will leave materials out for the wider community to both take and hopefully hand on.
So as you can see this Sausage Sizzle offers more than the chance to hoe into a Democracy Sausage, it:
- Gives you an opportunity to work with and meet OLOL parents
- Raises money for the school
- Is a chance to engage local people in the benefits of our lovely school and therefore grow enrolments
- Is actually quite a fun way to spend a couple of hours
Please support your school, your children and the P&F and sign up for a shift:
Thank you
Swim Squad training for the 2023 Holt Swimming Carnival begins on Thursday 24th November at 7.00am at the Harold Holt Swim Centre.
Swim Squad is for current students in Years 2-5 (2022). If you child/children are keen to join please read, sign and return this form by Friday 28th October.
We will be offering breakfast upon returning to school provided that we have parents committed to the preparation and serving of the food. Please indicate on this permission note if you are willing to assist with this. If we do not receive enough parent support for the valued and enjoyed breakfast program, we will need to reconsider this aspect of the program.
If you have any questions at all please email me - adrian.costa@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au
Cheers,
Adrian C
Welcome Mass for Prep 2023 Families
Sunday, 27th November 2022
11.15 am
Our Lady of Lourdes Church
631 High Street, Prahran East
Sunday 27th November is the First Sunday of Advent - it is also our Welcome Mass for next year's Prep Families. Although this year’s Foundation and Year 1 families are hosting the Mass and Morning Tea which follows, it would be a great thing if the whole school was present in order for all these new families and students to feel that they are truly becoming part of a very special community. Please remember that all of our school leaders should absolutely be present at this Mass.
Christmas Carols - Thursday 15th December
On Thursday 15th December there will be a whole school celebration incorporating Christmas Carols, Year 6 Graduation Ceremony and End of Year Disco. The evening will begin in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 6:00pm. The Carols and Graduation Ceremony will be followed by the Disco at the school. All students will be part of this event so please save the date.
Each class has been assigned a special role in the Christmas Carol Service, please do not feel you have to go out and buy costumes, a homemade costume looks just as good!
