A Message From the P&F Committee
Yes… many of us are a little weary after re-emerging into ‘normality’ …. but one thing that will re-energise us is sharing some good times together – and showing our new (ish) families how it’s done!
Please see below some SAVE THE DATES for you to mark in the calendar – both family friendly and ‘book the babysitter’ parent-only functions not to be missed!
Date | Event |
Term 3 |
|
Sunday 17th July 2:00pm - 5:00pm |
Family Fun Afternoon Orrong Romanis Park (playground/top of oval) BYO picnic / P&F sausage sizzle |
Saturday 20th August | Winter Parent Function (venue and time to be advised) The Winter parent function is our major fundraiser for the year, and we are relying on the generosity of our school community, via donations, to make it a success. For many families, a gift voucher – to be raffled on the night – may be a more practical way to donate. If purchased from a local retailer, café etc., these vouchers will also help support our local economy. But, if you’re in a position to donate a big-ticket item that could be auctioned on the night, we want to hear from you! Please contact the school or P&F. All funds raised will be directed towards the OLOL Building Fund to develop new classrooms and indoor and outdoor learning areas, and to refurbish existing amenities. |

On behalf of the OLOL community, the P&F committee thanks our wonderful school staff members for their tireless efforts and care of our little ones. ‘It takes a village’ – and we have one of the best.
We wish all families a wonderful break; see you next term!
Jordarna and the P&F Committee.
We had a tremendous start to our French program this term. Well done everyone!!!!! The level of engagement and enthusiasm from students, teachers, and staff is high. It is fantastic to come in every day and to hear students calling out “bonjour” or asking each other “comment ça va?”. At OLOL we are now all co-learners of French. Time is allocated every day to ensure frequent exposure to, and learning of, French. Our focus is on oral functional language. We are learning high frequency vocabulary we need to communicate within the school context. After such a great start, we look forward to continuing our French journey in Term 3 in order to develop and improve students’ language and learning skills.
We are very excited to be holding our first ever 'French Day' on Bastille Day (July 14th). This will be a dress-up day where you can either dress up as a French character or wear the colours of the flag (Blue, White and Red). There will be more details to come in the first week back at school.
Have a wonderful break and à bientôt.
- All existing second-hand uniform has been sorted, quality checked and name labels removed or re-labeled. There were some uniforms that needed a wash (e.g. winter jackets that are worth ‘recycling’ as they’re expensive but had food dripped all over them).
- There are two boxes that have been put aside as ‘drop-off zone’. People can just drop the uniform at the office and it will be put into the boxes for sorting later.
- Below are the quality guidelines that have been drawn up.
Guidelines for donations:
- Please remove name tags (or strike through names written in pen – the
the uniform shop will replace it with a blank name tag) - Prior to donating please WASH your items
- Uniform should be of a quality you would be happy to send your own child to school in – no:
o Rips, tears, or fraying
o Damaged OLOL logos
o Stains
o Obvious fading
o Hems down - No donations of socks or shoes unless they are brand new.
There will be more details to follow. Thank you to Clare and the team of mums that have got it this far.
Despite all the wonderful things we have achieved this semester, covering sick staff has continued to be an issue. The staff have been as always wonderful and cooperative but the fact remains many of them have missed their planning time and our CRT budget for the year is almost gone. In recognition of these and other signifiant facors the MACS Executive Leadership Team have today sent out the following information.
As we come to the end of a challenging term, I want to acknowledge the incredible job you’ve done to minimise disruption for staff and students despite the high number of COVID-19 and flu cases. We appreciate that the staff shortages these cases have caused and the resulting reduction in your CRT budgets has made it difficult to release teachers for professional practice time. Because professional practice time remains significant to delivering improved educational outcomes and maintaining staff engagement, the MACS Executive Leadership Team have approved an additional pupil free day for MACS Primary Schools in Term 3.
As a result, Friday 9th of September, will be a student-free day at OLOL for staff professional learning. Thank you for your understanding.
MACS BOARD - Visit - Letter of Appreciation
Wow, what a place!
I am writing to especially thank you all for the hospitality shared with me on my recent visit to your wonderful school.
I attended the MACS Board visit representing Primary School Principals from across Victoria.
As I arrived I felt a sense of calm and relaxed excitement.
My initial greeting at reception was friendly, warm and professional. The staff and school leadership teams were engaging and indeed very proud of your school community and its amazing achievements.
I was afforded an outstanding tour by your students. The tour was informative, relaxed. Both students were articulate, respectful and very keen to ensure I knew much about your school. Learning and a Catholic spirit was very evident.
As we visited classrooms students were engaged with their learning, and were working in warm, supportive, respectful and focused environments. This atmosphere is a credit to everyone and certainly supports quality learning. All students were happy to talk about their school, their learning and what was important to doing their best.
Congratulations and thanks for sharing. It was a privilege to visit.
Regards,
End of Financial Year Donations to the School Building Fund
We launched our school building fund on 1st June, 2022. In the last three weeks, we have had $10,750.00 donated. There is still time to donate before the end of this financial year however you won't receive your receipt of gift until school returns on 11th July. This fund is open all year round and we ask that you keep it in your mind to donate to the building fund at the school.
As it is the end of the term, could we ask everyone to check their child’s uniform to ensure that all of the articles they are wearing (and any they have in their bags) actually belong to them (in particular jumpers and jackets). Also, please ensure that all items of uniform are clearly marked with your child’s name.
Please remind your children that they need to be responsible for their own belongings.
Please see below for store details and a copy of their Price List.
EOFY School Building Fund - Appeal
Fr Hayes, the School Advisory Council (formally School Board) and I have been in discussions for some months now in regard to the growing need for additional accommodation at OLOL. This year measures have been put in place to ensure all students have continued access to the library, however the reality is we have a homeroom class in our library.
OLOL is also in need of contemporary spaces to cater to the growing needs of students to receive a variety of educational support i.e. music lessons, therapies or intervention etc. Furthermore, our toilet area, although recently updated, is below modern standards and our entire school, despite being code compliant, is not equally accessible for students and parents with disabilities.
Accordingly, OLOL has been working to seek and attain government funding to assist us in realising a proposed building project which would contemplate the following key aspects:
- Two new classrooms to cater for increased enrolment;
- Relocation of the tuck shop to create indoor/outdoor learning area;
- Lift enhancement to provide universal access to all four levels on the site
- Admin/staff/sickbay area refurbishment to provide more ably for staff, parents, the local community and student wellbeing;
- Student toilet refurbishment.
The indicative budget for this project is significant (est. $4.2 M) and in the event that OLOL is successful in attracting a government grant, this contribution will not cover the full costs of the proposed capital improvements. Increasingly schools need to rely on their communities to support any capital projects and building works.
Accordingly, OLOL has established a voluntary School Building Fund Appeal.
OLOL has in place a tax deductible School Building Fund (SBF) which enables parents and other community members to make contributions to support planned capital improvements.
All contributions received will be held via a specific OLOL bank account with the objective being to accrue a significant balance for contribution to the proposed project and in time other capital improvements.
With the end of the financial year approaching, we are hoping that you will consider making a once-off donation or offering of ongoing support via the SBF.
The SBF is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient. All donations are tax-deductible. A receipt will be provided for tax claim purposes.
Last week we sent out an email containing this letter and detail on how to contribute. We have attached the PDF as it includes the SBF bank account details. Donations are made via direct debit internet banking. We have also attached a draft master plan which outlines the proposal at this stage.
OLOL would be very grateful for contributions of any size.
Wonder of Living - Sexual Education for Senior Students
OLOL has used Open Doors to support parents with these discussions for the past eight years. Due to COVID, we have not held these sessions for two years and so are reintroducing these information evenings and discussion opportunities. In an effort to promote attendance the school will pay for both evenings. In the past, we have charged families to attend, however this year we really want our families to engage with this program and are trying to remove any obstacles like cost.
The Years 3 and 4 students program covers very different material to that covered in the Year 5 and 6 evenings.
Detailed information is linked below. Please click on the link for all the details. Please read it, sign up for it and take advantage of this lovely, safe program in which to have these really important conversations with your child/ren.
In pre-COVID times families generally attended the Year 3 and 4 session (How a baby grows and forms) and then in Years 5 and 6 attended the next session (Puberty). This year because our 5 and 6's missed the Year 3 and 4 session families of Year 5 and 6 students are invited to attend both.
MONDAY 18 JULY - YEAR 5 AND 6 - PUBERTY
WEDNESDAY 20 JULY - YEARS 3 AND 4 (AND YEARS 5 AND 6) - HOW A BABY GROWS
Sacrament of Reconciliation - Year 2
First Reconciliation will be celebrated in Term 3 however, in order for us to organise the program and the events please can you inform us with whether or not your child will be making their First Reconciliation by completing this form as soon as possible, or before Friday 22nd July.
Congratulations to all the Student of the Week Award winners from week eight. These students exemplified the You Can Do It' value of; 'Giving Effort'. The week nine awards will be in the first newsletter in Term 3.

The OLOL Winter Beanie Appeal has been a massive success with students proudly wearing their beanies and keeping toasty warm! It's wonderful to see their happy faces knowing they are making a contribution to help those less fortunate.
OLOL raised an incredible $600! To raise that amount of money for such a wonderful cause shows the generosity of spirit and the strong sense of social justice in our community. Thank you to all families for supporting such a great cause and showing the spirit of the OLOL community.
Make sure you take a moment to look through the happy and smiling faces and see if you can find yourself in Beanie Corner!
The SRC Team
Aboriginal Culture for a Day Incursion
It was a wonderful day learning about Aboriginal culture, caring for country, cultural history, symbolic art, stories, music and dance. The students participated in different activities that provided them with the opportunity to form a deeper understanding about Aboriginal culture.
Part of the day was a special morning tea from Mabu Mabu Cafe. The students enjoyed some lemon aspen and pepperberry spiced popcorn and homemade damper with golden syrup whipped butter. The lemon aspen and pepperberry spiced popcorn was a shock to many of the tastebuds with the spicy flavours and the damper was thoroughly enjoyed with the delicious golden syrup whipped butter being lovely and sweet.
The students had a fantastic day and showcased the spirit of OLOL with their welcoming, friendly and happy nature.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)
Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).
Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:
- year of schooling
- category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
- level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.
This information assists schools to:
- formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
- consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
- develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.
The NCCD provides state and federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability.
The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.education.gov.au/privacy-policy).
Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).
If you have any questions about the NCCD, please contact the school.
