Dear Parents and Carers
As the school continues to grow, the time has come for us to outsource the uniform shop. Once upon a time when the school had between 50 - 70 students, it had the ability to store the number of uniforms needed to service those students.
We have for some years struggled to store the amount of stock our school now needs to adequately clothe 160+ students. We have tried to run a service that accommodates a high percentage of working parents unable to get into the school to buy uniforms during school hours but it has been difficult.
PSW who are our main providers of uniforms has offered to take the whole thing from our hands and in doing so solve our hours of service availability, staffing, stocking, and storage issues all in one hit. Importantly PSW is open both during holidays and on Saturdays, and therefore, far more available to you as parents.
There will of course be an increase in the cost of uniform items. We have looked into this and although they are not enormous rises there are rises. Therefore we invite you to take advantage of the OLOL prices and buy any requirements (Summer / winter/ hats/ bags) anything you like before the cut-off date.
There are two dates which are very important and therefore I am going to write them not only in capital letters but also bold and red!
FINAL DAY FOR PURCHASES OF ANY KIND FROM OLOL: FRIDAY 6TH MAY
PSW LAUNCH OF OLOL UNIFORM SHOP: TUESDAY 14TH JUNE
As you can see there will be a five-week period where no uniform will be available to purchase from either OLOL or PSW. So we are giving you a great deal of time for you to be able to organise your uniform requirements before this blackout period. We looked at the school calendar and identified this time as our slowest period of demand. Winter uniform is in and established and summer uniform is a term away.
We have three opportunities to shop here at OLOL:
Week 10 Term 1 Thursday 31 March 8.15 am - 9.30 am
Week 11 Term 1 Wednesday 6 April 2.30 pm - 4.00 pm
and Week 1 Term 2 Thursday 28 April 9.00 am - 10.30 am.
and as always we have our online form process available until Friday 6th May.
Thank you for your understanding and I look forward to a more convenient service.
Have a great week
Francine
Thank you so much.
On Friday the 18th of February, 19 students from OLOL competed in the Holt Swimming Carnival at Oakleigh Recreation Centre. All students performed remarkably with a few missing out on a ribbon by the narrowest of margins.
Congratulations to Isla Moylan who came second in the U9/10 girls freestyle and Brooklyn Underwood who came second in the U11 boys breaststroke.
Both Isla and Brooklyn have progressed to the next round and will be heading to the Beachside Swimming Carnival next Friday. We wish both Isla and Brooklyn all the very best for their events.
A massive thank you to the team of mums who provided breakfasts every squad morning and also to Mr. Costa and Miss Murphy for their commitment to this program.
We ask that you have a chat with your children about road safety and the correct way to cross our busy streets. We also ask that you please do not make a u-turn out the front of the school or park illegally. There have been many near-misses over the past two weeks and we always strive to keep our staff, students and school community safe.
As you know we are so so grateful that parents are now parking and walking to pick students up from the front of the school. It means such a lot that you have all co-operated with this new format. I did however receive the letter below yesterday and thought I would publish it for you to read just to keep safety at the forefront of everything that we all do. Thank you
Dear Francine,
I am writing to you as I am very concerned about the traffic situation that is occurring on Wynnstay Road.
I have evidence of 20 cars illegally parked out the front of my home in just the past few days. There are many parking restrictions and “no standing” sections on Wynnstay Rd to ensure good visualisation of laneways, side roads and the pedestrian and vehicle traffic that are using them. These cars, predominately during school drop off and pick up times are obstructing this vision and placing not only their own children, but other children at risk. I understand that the majority of children are driven to school and that parents are in a rush to drop off and get to their next engagement. Unfortunately, children are children and have no road sense, and we cannot watch them all the time. Saving a few minutes by parking safely or walking a greater distance is far less a burden than witnessing or causing an accident or worse. I have been in the unenviable position as part of my job, to resuscitate a number of children. I most definitely do not want to do this out the front of my home.
My own child was hit by on Wynnstay rd. Whilst standing still on the side of the road to get a clear and safe crossing, an illegally parked car driven by one of the school mothers, reversed out of her spot and hit him. How she could not see a teenage boy that is 6ft3” I do not know. Fortunately Angus is not a smaller primary school pupil and was only bruised and shaken.
I ask that you reinforce to your school community, both children and parents, that they obey the traffic laws, be mindful of their surroundings and most of all stay safe.
Kind Regards,

Yesterday the season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allows Caritas Australia, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2022 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good that we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage you to put your compassion into action this Lent through your prayer, fasting and almsgiving by supporting Project Compassion. Each child received a Project Compassion box for their donations. Please return all Project Compassion boxes to the school office by Friday 20th May or donate online via the Caritas website at lent.caritas.org.au
Students will participate in a range of athletic events from sprints to shot put to sack racing. Students and families are encouraged to wear their House Colours on the day, or just their sports uniform. The events will start at 9.45am and the final presentation to start at 12.45pm.
As there is a lot of setting up and equipment to take from school to the park we are looking for some amazing volunteers to help with this. If you are available and willing to help with the set up and/or pack up of the day can you please fill in this form. We will also need volunteers to assist with marshalling the 5/6 relays, so again if you are available and willing to help can you please fill in this form.
Many thanks!
The 2022 fee statements were sent out recently. Some of our families have made enquiries regarding fee payment plans. Below is the section on Payment of School fees taken directly from OLOL School Fee Policy which is on our website.
Payment of School Fees
How to pay
Our Lady of Lourdes offers several options for paying fees, eg:
- Direct debit – set up by CDF (Catholic Development Fund – School financial institution) paid weekly, fortnightly, monthly or quarterly. Application forms are available from the school office.
- Credit card, Internet Banking, Cash and Cheque.
When to pay
Fees can be paid as follows :
- in full at the commencement of the school year; or
- in three instalments, payable March/June/September; or
- by monthly, fortnightly or weekly instalments; or
- in accordance with a payment plan by special arrangement with the Principal (In every instance a genuine attempt will be made to arrange an affordable, regular payment plan for fees) –
but in any case, all outstanding fees must be paid in full by 1st August 2022, unless payment plans have been set up.
Families who may be eligible for discount to current fees
If you hold a valid CRN Number (Health Care Card) you may be eligible for the Camp Sports & Excursion Funding (CSEF) through the Department of Education.
This grant of $125 per student will be deducted from your school fees. Application forms will be made available to you upon request from the school office.
Please note for families who were eligible in 2021, the school has applied directly on your behalf.
In line with our Concessional Fee Policy discounted fees are available for families experiencing financial difficulty or eligible for a Health Care Card. Any family who is experiencing difficulties in meeting their financial commitments, or wishing to discuss alternate fee payment arrangements for 2022, is asked to arrange an appointment with the principal.
Thank you.
A big thank you to all of the parents who have so kindly donated children's masks to the school. Very much apprecated, thank you!
Open Days and Prep Enrolments for 2023
Below are the dates of our Open Days for this year. As I have mentioned in previous newsletters we are very strategic with our marketing approach. However the best possible marketing strategy is happy OLOL parents telling people about our marvellous school. Please keep getting the word out there.
