We also welcome all of our new families to the OLOL community.
We begin this year with lots of new staff and we would like to welcome them ... Tracey French (ESO), Estelle Gaillard (ESO/French Teacher), Tanya Murphy (Prep/1 Classroom Teacher), Tom Venier (Year 3/4 Classroom Teacher) and Bernie Walsh (Performing Arts/ Music).
The newsletter remains the major source for information dissemination and therefore we encourage (read demand) parents and carers to read it every fortnight. The beauty of the newsletter being digital and on SZapp means that it remains on your device for you to check in on details, dates, and doings at any point.
Included in today’s Newsletter is a photo permission form. Having as many students as possible able to take part in photo opportunities is great for historic records, fun participation as well as the public image of the school. You do have the opportunity to refuse permission, which is completely within your rights, but we ask that you think carefully before opting out.
We are very excited to be welcoming back our professional photographer to take a new set of photos to update our school website and communications. Therefore, we need all photo permission forms back by 11th February.
This letter also contains the ICT User Agreement. It is VERY IMPORTANT that these are read with your child/ren signed and submitted. No child at OLOL should be using any form of digital social communications including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, chat rooms, or WhatsApp. As we all know by now, nothing good comes from these platforms, they are not needed - if your children need to communicate with each other outside of school arrange a playdate. These platforms are not safe and our policies reflect how seriously we take child safety at OLOL.
Thank you for enabling a very smooth RATs pick-up operation. We will let you know when the second lot of kits are ready for pick-up. We have three positive cases currently in the school in years prep, year 2, and year 6. So please remember to observe your child for symptoms, keep testing and inform the school if positive. For all RATs and COVID information refer to last week's letter.
Looking forward to a sensational 2022 and to seeing everybody on Friday night at Lumley Park!
Regards
Francine
As we are not able to celebrate the beginning of the school year with a Disco due to the numbers on the school site, we have decided to arrange an evening of fun offsite instead!
Where: Lumley Park Playground, Jessamine Ave, Prahran
When: Friday 11th February from 5:30pm
What: Pack a picnic, a beverage of choice and a blanket and join us for catch ups with old friends or make some new ones.
What else: There will be novelty races and fun games for all the family!
Word of warning: parking around Lumley Park is difficult, can we suggest picnic and family and then going to find a park on High Street, William Street or other surrounding streets.
As we know, covid has had a way of completely disrupting our school's beautiful events so we do ask that everybody makes an effort to get to this event while we can.
We look forward to seeing everybody there!
*If it rains this event will be canceled.
Parent Welcome Drinks Evening

As part of the Wellbeing program at OLOL in 2022, we will be focusing on increasing the participation of students in team sports at local clubs within our community and supporting families and students to join local sporting teams. As we know, team sports have wide reaching benefits and increasing student participation can have a positive impact on students’ social, emotional and physical wellbeing.
In my role as Wellbeing leader, I will be supporting students and families to become involved with their local sporting team. We are fortunate to have a supportive and inclusive community at OLOL and having more students and families involved with their local team sport, will continue to build on the OLOL community both at school and beyond.
To support this, I will be coordinating a program that connects parents whose child/ren are currently participating in teams sports and parents who would like to have their child/ren participate. The program will focus on assisting parents to connect with families who are wanting their child/ren to join their local team and support them in understanding all elements including; transportation to and from training and games, uniforms, equipment and team and club information.
To connect parents, I am putting a call out to both parents whose child/ren are currently participating in team sports and parents who are interested in having their child/ren involved so I can connect parents within our community.
If your child/ren is currently participating in a team sport or you are interested in having your child/ren become involved, please contact me via email.

Tanya Murphy
My name is Tanya Murphy or Miss Murphy. I have just finished my teaching degree, meaning this will be my first year working as a teacher and I could not be more excited. I have had the pleasure of working as a swimming and kindergarten teacher but cannot wait for my next adventure working with our P/1 students and families. Already I have been lucky enough to share one of my passions which is swimming with the OLOL community during swim squad. I really look forward to sharing more of the things I enjoy such as baking and reading with you all. I’m so thankful to OLOL community for the warm welcome I have already received, and I am loving getting to know you all!
Tom Venier
Having recently graduated from Australian Catholic University I was eager to dive head first into the teaching profession and am thrilled to be a part of the wonderful community at OLOL. Outside of my passion for teaching and learning, I love all things sport and have always especially enjoyed playing footy and basketball. I am also a keen snowboarder and love the winter months of the year - if I get a chance to get to the snow! I am so excited to be a member of the OLOL community, and thank all those I have got to know already so far for their support and warm welcomes. I look forward to getting to know all members of this lovely community as the year progresses, and wish everyone well for 2022.
Bernie Walsh
Roll up, roll up! My name is Bernie Walsh and I am thrilled to be bringing Performing Arts and Music to our school community this year! I have been a classroom teacher for five years teaching from Year 1 to Year 6 across a range of schools. My love of Performing Arts was born when I had my first acting gig as baby Jesus at 8 days old in my local parish nativity play. Ever since I have acted, sung, danced, played a range of instruments including the trumpet, trombone, keyboard, and much more! I aim to instill a love of performance and support the students to build the skills and knowledge they need to engage in any area of performance arts. This year I am completing my Masters of Integrated STEM Education at Australian Catholic University and look forward to integrating cutting edge inquiry learning techniques into the Performing Arts and Music sphere.
- There is no parking at all in the front section of the school until after 9.00am
- This is the speedy drop off area
- Drivers are asked to remain in their cars
- Mr McAlister will supervise the drop offs helping children from cars
- Students will then go directly to the top playground where Mrs Walsh will be on duty
If you would like to accompany your child onto the playground, please park your car away from the designated drop off section and walk with your child into the school. Supervision on the playground is from 8.30am. Prior to 8.30am your child must be booked into before school care with Extend (www.extend.com.au).
AFTERNOON – 3.30pm – 3.45pm
WE HAVE HAD ONGOING ISSUES WITH CARS ARRIVING EARLY TO SPEEDY PICKUP AND BLOCKING WYNNSTAY RD FROM AS EARLY AS 3.00PM. AS YOU CAN IMAGINE THIS INFURIATES OUR NEIGHBOURS.
WE ARE THEREFORE ASKING THAT ALL PARENTS PARK IN NEIGHBOURING STREETS AND WALK DOWN TO THE SCHOOL AND THEN WALK THEIR CHILD/CHILDREN BACK TO THE CAR. PLEASE LEAVE SPEEDY PICK-UP FOR PARENTS WITH TODDLERS AND BABIES IN THE CAR.
- No parking in the designated pick up section
- Students to be picked up will come to the front of the school
- When a parent/carer pulls up, drivers are to remain in their cars and staff will help the student/s into the car
- Please drive right into the curb so cars can pass you
- Car, parent/carer and students drive off allowing for the next car to move up into the section
- Please DO NOT make a U-TURN from the parking zone into the house opposite (No. 18) driveway. We understand that you need to turn around so that you are not faced with trying to get out onto Orrong Road. We are asking that you drive off down Wynnstay Road, over the children’s crossing and then use the driveway on the other side of the crossing to make your U-turn
Finally, of an afternoon ‘Speedy Pick up’ operates from 3.30pm to 3.45pm. You do not have to be at the front of the school at 3.30pm sharp. There is a 15-minute window in which you can arrive. There is no pressure from us that you are out there at exactly 3.30pm.
Parking
Please be aware of the parking restrictions on Wynnstay Road on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. The parking officers are lethal!
Please also pay close attention to the parking restrictions in A’Beckett Street. This is the street that our back gate opens onto. If you need convenience and speed, please use the front Speedy Pick-up service mentioned above. If you’re not in a hurry, please park near Orrong Romanis Park, walk up to the school and then accompany your children back to the car. The council has advised that parents should not park at all on A'Beckett St between Sydney St and the school. This is reasonable as there is no safe way to get out of that section of the street. It is too tight to U-Turn safely. As a result, this forms part of our Stonnington Approved Traffic Management Plan (Yep, there really is such a document.)
A reminder to our Swim Squad participants that training commences tomorrow, Friday 4th February and will continue on Friday 11th February.
Please note that if your child is participating in Swim Squad the $35.00 fee for the term must be paid next week. This fee covers lane hire and breakfast as well as contributing toward the bus for the Carnival.
Please also remember that the children will be travelling back to school by tram together at the conclusion of each training, hence they will need to bring a Myki card (with credit on it) for the tram.
Many thanks!
This will be a change for us as it means we will be in summer uniform, not winter uniform. As per the uniform code, girls are to wear white short socks, and boys are to wear navy short socks and ALL students must be wearing black school shoes.
Each child will receive a photo envelope with their name on it. This MUST come back to school regardless of whether or not you are purchasing any photos.
Thank you
We congratulate Cormac Walsh on being received into the Church through the Sacrament of Baptism last Sunday. I believe there are several saints named Cormac. St Cormac of Kildare and St Cormac of Armagh to name two. From the angelic look on our Cormac's face in this photo - I expect there to eventually be a third, St Cormac of Prahran!
If you need to contact your child's teacher the best way generally is via email rather than ringing the school. For your convenience, please see below a list of classroom teacher emails.

Birthday Party Invites
We ask that parents be responsible for giving out birthday party invites (not the children). Please be careful and discreet with invitation handing out as it can be hurtful if an entire grade is not invited. If you are working parents and do not get to see students or parents at pick up or drop off it might be an idea to email invites.
Teachers are not responsible for handing invites out.
Celebrating Birthdays
While on birthdays … we ask that you do not send birthday treats (cakes, lollies etc) to school to be shared. The students will sing happy birthday to your children on or close to, their birthdays and they will receive their birthday award in assembly.
Please complete the Photo Permission form (regardless of whether or not you have given permission previously) and submit by Friday 11th February.
Extend Before and After School Care
Extend understand that high quality care and education doesn’t ‘just happen’. They believe it takes a committed team of quality staff all working towards great outcomes for children, parents and school communities. Their ideals, expectations and vision fit easily into the OLOL philosophy and so we enjoy a very successful program of out of hours care. I regularly receive feedback from parents about just how happy they are with the care the students receive.
As Extend is a professional group, it takes several days to process a new ‘enrolment’. We ask that every student is enrolled in the Extend Before and After Care Program so that if you ever need to use the service you are ready to go.
Extend have a comprehensive website which they invite you to browse to learn more about Extend or to enrol your child: www.extend.com.au.
All families requiring bookings for Before School Care and After School Care (existing and new families) must create a new account with LookedAfter. Go to https://www.lookedafter.com.
A message from the Prahran Junior Football Club :
Hi Mrs Walsh
I am the President of the Prahran Junior Football Club located at Toorak Park. We are very fortunate to have many of your students playing junior football with our Club and we are proud of our strong focus on skill development, community and inclusiveness.
We have teams that can cater for all ages of girls and boys from Under 8 (Year 2/born 2013) onwards and would welcome the opportunity to have the attached flyer included in your school newsletter/notice board for the next few weeks as we are currently accepting registrations for our 2021 teams. We can also offer financial support to any player that may not otherwise be in a position to play football.
Regards,
Rob Lacey
