With just three weeks to go there's a lot of very important events to fit in before the end of the term.
CEMSIS
Today and tomorrow you will all receive an invitation to complete the new School Improvement form 'CEMSIS' we really really need 87 responses to get good data from this survey so we'd be very grateful if you could go straight on and get that completed. The data we receive from these surveys helps us to keep up the good things in place at our school and help us to continually improve.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
Then next week we have our Dress Rehearsal, Matinee Performance and Evening Performance of Beauty and the Beast. We have sent out a lot of communication around the specifics of this and our feedback is telling us that you finding our new communication platforms very easy to use. There are more details and links in this newsletter. PLEASE make sure you buy your tickets online before the performances.
FOOTY FUNDAY
On the last day of the term, we are holding our now traditional Footy Funday. There will be more information to follow but as always everyone is welcome.
Have a great week .... book those tickets
Francine
Congratulations to the twenty-one students who made their First Eucharist on Sunday 25th August.
Many thanks to the Year 1 and 2 families who hosted the Morning Tea
CEMSIS School Improvement Surveys
You should all now have received a request to complete a School Improvement Survey. As you know this survey is essential in helping us make OLOL the very best it can be.
Miss Irene Archer will be available with iPads to support families with logging on and completing the survey on Friday 20th September from 9am. If you have any issues with the link or password, please email her directly on iarcher@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au
We look forward to hearing your feedback on how special OLOL is and how we can work to make it even better.
Beauty and the Beast Permission Form
You should now have received the permission form for the Beauty and the Beast rehearsals and performances via the SZapp. Please ensure you have submitted this form, one per family is great, before Monday so that we are able to arrange relevant transportation.
Beauty and the Beast Backdrops
One of the most exciting parts of our school concert is the painting of the backdrops. We go to great expense to hire a giant digital wall where we project student created artwork as the backdrop to the play. The process to get these sets painted is as follows.
Each grade gets allocated a scene or two from the play and each child in each grade has a brief lesson on what should and should not be included in a backdrop they then each paint their version of the allocated scene. Once this is completed every artwork is laid on the floor in the hall. Then SRC members and Arts Captains choose the scene that they best think represents the scene.
Generally, because of the size of backdrops in a school concert, thay are usually the domain of adults. We are so proud that the backdrops you see in Beauty and the Beast are created by students and so important and integral in our concert. Because we understand how overwhelming the play will be full of music and singing and costumes and colour and talent ... we have decided to share the backdrops and their creators for you in this newsletter so you have the opportunity to see the work and intricacy that has gone into just this aspect to our concert.
Congratulations to Molly Moon who did an amazing job last Thursday at the Holt Athletics Carnival, coming second in the U9/10 girls 80m hurdles. Her great effort has got her competing at the Beachside Carnival tomorrow. Good luck Molly!
Footy Fun Day is on Friday 20th September (last day of term 3). Students are invited to dress up in their football team colours. This can be either AFL, NRL, Rugby or Soccer or your favourite sports team. The idea is to celebrate the football finals and generally have a bit of fun by supporting your team at school. The day will include football themed activities such as class banner making, a football clinic and sausage sizzle. The day will conclude with a footy day assembly and banner run through before school finishes at 1pm for the holidays.
Parents are welcome to join us throughout the morning.
The children will engage in a variety of activities and experiences with a special shared ‘Lunches of the World’. We encourage all students to dress in clothing that represents their familys’ culture or a culture they are interested in.
As our school community is made up of a variety of cultures, we are hoping that some parents may have talents or skills from their culture, and are willing to share it with our school community on October 29th. Please contact Alison March via email - amarch@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au
