Welcome back to term three. Thank you for allowing the staff to continue to work as a team to prepare for this term's review. Monday was a massive day for us but we are well on the way to having all the evidence required to justify our self-evaluation. The two improvement reviews, which audit every aspect of the school mean a lot of extra work for the staff. They are however an important part of both recognising what we are doing well as a school community and they also provide a comprehensive guide to 'where to next' for the school. This, for a school so focused on improvement of every kind is a positive outcome.
While on school improvement, during the holidays we painted, recarpeted, and put new pinboards in the school entrance foyer, administration, and staff room. The fumes are still wreaking havoc with our heads but aesthetically it is looking clean, fresh, and welcoming. You might also have noticed our spanking new sign on the front of the school. In the library, we added some sparkling new white cabinets to house our ever-growing literature resources. However, once the white cabinets went in the tired cream walls were crying out to be painted. So we quickly commandeered the painters from downstairs and added in a 'variance' to get the library walls up to scratch as well. The improvements give the library a lovely fresh lease on life!
The good news this term is we have Mary Gammilomghi and Margaret Biviano back with us. Not quite their usual timetable yet but getting close. The other good news is that we have sent out 40+ prep enrolment acceptances. This is the greatest number of Preps EVER and I wish to thank the community for their part in the build of this precious school. I thank you for either having multiple children and therefore guaranteeing a sustainable enrollment or speaking highly of the school in public and convincing friends and colleagues to come and see what we have to offer or perhaps you are doing both! Those of you in the school who understand what a special place it is are the best advertisement for OLOL. So we thank you.
It's been a busy week for our Year 3 cohort. Firstly last night the students from years 3 and 4 attended the Eucharist sacramental preparation evening at St Peter's, Toorak, and then today the Years 2 and 3 set off into the Disney exhibition at ACMI! Such a lot of excitement going on!
It has now become apparent that we are all waiting on an announcement from the government regarding a snap lockdown. Please keep checking the SZapp but know that the school at all times follows the governmental and MACS guidelines.
In anticipation,
Francine
Hello Parents,
A quick update on costumes requirements for our upcoming production. Also while leggings are still available in shops.
We are asking all students from Prep to Year Three to provide one small item for the production: a pair of black footless leggings. Students will need to bring these into school by Week 6 of Term Three.
These can be found online or instore at:
Kmart - $4
Big W - $5
Target - $7
We have included some links for your convenience. Please note, they must be plain black with no other colours or logos. We have asked for students to wear these in previous years so you may have some at home already. You are very welcome to reuse leggings (as long as they fit well and are not faded) and / or pass preloved pairs on to others.
We will be providing Prep to Year Three students with a colourful t-shirt to wear with these leggings.
Students from Year Four to Six don’t have any costume requirements while we finalise wardrobe, but are asked to take their scripts home and learn as many of their words as possible. With lockdown interrupting rehearsals we haven’t looked at all the songs yet, but if students can tune in to the cast album via Spotify or Apple Music that would be a great help.
We are looking forward to more rehearsals in Term Three!
Kind regards,
Ruth McGurk and Anne Vella (Wardrobe Coordinator)
