TERM 2 ENDS
AT 1.00pm TOMORROW!
and resumes for
TERM 3
TUESDAY 13th JULY
Hello Parents,
A quick update on costumes requirements for our upcoming production, in time for holiday shopping. Also while leggings are still available in shops.
We are asking all students from Prep to Year Three to provide one small item for the production: a pair of black footless leggings. Students will need to bring these into school by Week 6 of Term Three.
These can be found online or instore at:
Kmart - $4
Big W - $5
Target - $7
We have included some links for your convenience. Please note, they must be plain black with no other colours or logos. We have asked for students to wear these in previous years so you may have some at home already. You are very welcome to reuse leggings (as long as they fit well and are not faded) and / or pass preloved pairs on to others.
We will be providing Prep to Year Three students with a colourful t-shirt to wear with these leggings.
Students from Year Four to Six don’t have any costume requirements while we finalise wardrobe, but are asked to take their scripts home and learn as many of their words as possible. With lockdown interrupting rehearsals we haven’t looked at all the songs yet, but if students can tune in to the cast album via Spotify or Apple Music that would be a great help.
We are looking forward to more rehearsals in Term Three!
Kind regards,
Ruth McGurk and Anne Vella (Wardrobe Coordinator)
Casual Clothes Day - TOMORROW!!!
In order to celebrate End of Term Two, tomorrow has been proclaimed CASUAL CLOTHES DAY.
The students will have their final 'Connect to Dance' lesson tomorrow and then each class will perform their dance for each other. If time allows we will then have a bit of group free dance time (I hesitate to say the word disco). We will then have a super quick final assembly and then school ends for another term at 1.00pm. Term Three begins on Tuesday 13th July.
Speedy Pick Up and A'Beckett Street
Dissertation #345
So …
We continue to have problems with Speedy Pick Up in the afternoon from the Wynnstay Rd side. Many families have changed their routine to help reduce the pressure and we appreciate that enormously. We do however ask that more of you park in the surrounding streets and walk to pick the students up. A good rule of thumb is, if you don't have a child in a toddler seat then it would be best if you parked and walked.
I received this recently … “I am writing on behalf of the City of Stonnington in regard to the rear access to Our Lady of Lourdes via A’Beckett Street. Could you please clarify the school’s current management plan for pick up and drop off at the rear entrance. Council has received some concerns from nearby residents regarding the safety of children in A’Beckett Street due to vehicle movements in the street.”
And now ostensibly we have issues in A'beckett Street. There is no parking ever on the left-hand side and to park on the right-hand side is unsafe because it is difficult to maneuver out right when there are students, toddlers, and dogs everywhere. We ask that you park at the parking bays in A’beckett Street at the park or in Sydney St and again walk to the back gate of the school.
I am sorry that I am constantly writing about rules and regulations regarding picking up students. But this is only ever about Child Safety and I know how ever inconvenient you support us on that.
The extended absence of the lovely Mary Gammilonghi has been felt in our community. For those of you whose children have worked with Mrs Gammilonghi I know you understand the hole she has left not being here this year. For those of you who don't know Mrs Gammilonghi - you wait, she is a ripper! Mary is on the Leadership team at OLOL and her roles include leading all the literacy initiatives in the school, the intervention programs, and the whole student services area including all the documentation and strategies around any child in our school with needs of many sorts. We have as a staff mostly covered her roles in her absence, but what can't be covered is her presence. Mary is the most committed, hard-working, compassionate, caring teacher and I know that those of you who do know her would back me up 100% in these claims.
So Mary has since the beginning of the year been suffering from an autoimmune issue. She has undergone extended periods of seriously intense medication. The very wonderful news is, however, that her doctors have said she is in remission and is allowed to come back to OLOL (a little bit!)
So from the beginning of next term, we will again see the lovely face of Mrs. Gammilonghi in our school. While she is getting stronger, she will just work in the mornings, and as her health returns fully we will get to see more and more of her. If you would like to email her and let her know how happy you are that she will be coming back please do. mary.gammilonghi@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au
We will also continue to have the support and assistance of Cate Callery and her tutoring groups into next term.
School Improvement Review - Term 3 2021
- To satisfy legitimate expectations of government and sector authorities about accountability for the outcomes of schooling
- To assist schools and teachers to improve student outcomes.
The framework incorporates the following four accountability components:
- Assessing school improvement progress via completion of the SIF Rubric and engagement in MACS School Review every four years
- Planning for improvement via a four-year School Improvement Plan (SIP) and subsequent Annual Action Plans (AAP)
- Reporting on progress via an Annual Report to the School Community
- Managing risk and compliance - verification process/audit of the Minimum Standards for School Registration and Other State and Commonwealth Requirements for Catholic Schools
School Improvement Framework has two dimensions
Improvement: The review supports self-reflection and assessment of performance and growth in
school improvement and informs planning for future growth. Post review, schools will
work closely with their Regional Learning Services team to set their future improvement agenda, grounded in the school's next School Improvement Plan (SIP).
Compliance: an audit/verification process of the Minimum Standards for School Registration and other State and Commonwealth Requirements is conducted for all schools engaging in the process of school review.
The Leadership team as well as staff have been working all year to prepare for our review. OLOL’s review dates are Tuesday 24 August 2021 and Thursday 26 August 2021.
The school closure day on the first Monday of next term is to support staff in completing the work required by the review.
Look at this!!! After nearly twenty weeks or resident artist, Di Platt is almost, almost finished.
You might also notice that after this set of school holidays the foyer has had a little 'freshen up'. We are re-carpeting some very tired carpet and re-painting. We recently replaced the doors in the foyer so they now close securely and gently and the new doors to the hall allow a better view of our BEAUTIFUL school mural.
Once parents are really allowed back into the place to gather - you will be able to see a number of improvements that have taken place over the past 18 months.
So thank you to everybody for supporting this fabulous community-engendering initiative. It has been such a hit that there have been requests from parents unable to support the Monday time (because they work at that time) for the van to be moved to different days so they can be part of the caffeine-driven fun. Sadly at this point in time, Monday is the only day available on the coffee guy's schedule so, sorry to say that it has to stay on a Monday for the time being. But thank you for the enthusiasm.
First Eucharist - Year 3 and 4
First Eucharist Mass
Saturday 31st July at 6pm and
Sunday 1st August at 11:15am
Dear Parents,
As you know the students in Year 3 and 4 will be making their First Eucharist early in Term 3. With the current restrictions in place we are limited with the numbers allowed in the Church so therefore we have allocated each family 5 tickets (the Communicant and 4 guests).
To book your tickets please click on the event in the Calendar (which can be accessed via SZapp). If you would like more than the five tickets allocated please email irene.archer@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au with how many additional tickets you would like. Once parents have booked their tickets we can assign any leftover places on a first come first served basis.
Sacrament Information Evening
Our Sacrament Information Evening will be held at St Peters Church, Toorak at 6:30pm on Wednesday 14th July.
Year 2 and 3 ACMI Excursion - Thursday 15th July
Please complete the Permission Form by Monday 12th July.
We have had a lot of fun at Garden Club this term!
At the beginning of the term we planted some carrot seeds and yesterday we were finally able to harvest them. They were very sweet and delicious! We were also able to harvest some radishes, athough they were not as sweet.
During our garden adventures we have also found some snail friends. Sadly, Miss Jackson had to remind us to wash our hands and leave them in the garden.
It was so tempting to bring them into the classroom with us!
We cannot wait for Garden Club in Term 3!
