Hello all,
In term 2 we have a lot of sports happening so we have decided to create a small newsletter which you can refer back to. This newsletter will have all the information that you need to know regarding the sports that OLOL are participating in Term 2. Those sports are:
Holt Soccer Lightning Premiership
Inter School Sport (Football and Netball)
Holt Cross Country Carnival
OLOL Cross Country Training and Carnival
Holt Football Lightning Premiership
Holt Netball Lightning Premiership
Each of these sports are below with all the relevant information.
Holt Soccer Lighting Premiership
This year we are putting together an OLOL Soccer Team to participate in the Holt Soccer Lightning Premiership in Term 2. The team will be for all grade 5/6 students and for any grade 4 students who currently play soccer at a club outside of school.
This carnival is a one day event which will be held at Caulfield Park on the 23rd April. The students will be travelling to and from the event by bus.
We are looking for a parent volunteer who is available on the day and has a sound understanding of the rules to help out with refereeing the games.
Students will need to have shin guards as they are compulsory, mouthguards and football boots are strongly recommended.
Attached to the form below is a note that is the Holt District code of conduct agreement. This must be read and signed by each parent and student before participating in an Interschool event. Please complete the permission form below and submit it by Thursday 1st April.
Term 2 is a busy and exciting term. One of the exciting elements in Term 2 is Interschool Sport! It will begin in week 2 of term 2, so start to dust off the football boots, get out the mouth guards and start practicing the goal shooting. All senior students (Year's 4-6) will be participating and parent help and support would be greatly appreciated.
The children will be participating in netball and football matches against other schools, within our zone. We will be playing on the following dates against:
Friday 30th April – Home Game v St Columba's
Friday 7th May – Away Game v St Joseph's Elsternwick
Friday 21st May – Home Game v St James
Friday 28th May – Away Game v Joseph's Black Rock
The games will start at different times each week depending on the visiting school, these times will be communicated each week via SZapp. On away games student's will be travelling to the opposing schools via bus.
Inter school sports will be a chance for the children to develop their fitness, cooperation skills and teamwork. They no doubt will always strive to do their best as they have in the past (no matter how hard the competition) and make OLOL proud.
All children must be in their full sports uniform and wear appropriate footwear. Footballers are unable to play unless they are wearing a mouthguard. These can be purchased at Chemists or Sports Stores such as Rebel Sport.
We need a number of parent volunteers to support us each week to assist with roles such as umpiring and time keeping. Please show expressions of interest below if you can assist on the dates listed above. Or you can simply come along and support the children at the games.
The Football Lightning Premiership will take place on the 4th June and the Netball Lightning Premiership will take place on the 10th June. More information and permission notes will be sent out closer to the date.
Attach to the form which is linked below is a note that is the Holt District code of conduct agreement. This must be read and signed by each parent and student before participating in an Interschool event. Please complete the permission form below and submit it by Tuesday 20th April.
We are excited to begin the cross country training program again this year in the lead up to both the OLOL School Cross Country Carnival, which is taking place on the 20th of May at 9.15 am, and the Holt (Inter-school) Cross Country Carnival on Friday, the 14th of May. This is an excellent opportunity for students to prepare themselves for the events and to improve their overall fitness and running ability. Training begins at 7.45am and we meet at the BBQ near the playground at Orrong Romanis Reserve.
The OLOL School Cross Country event forms part of the Physical Education curriculum. The expectation is that all students from Foundation through to Year 6 participate in the school Cross Country Carnival. The Holt Interschool event is for students from Year 4 through to Year 6 and to be prepared for these events training is recommended.
Training dates are:
- Friday 30th April
- Friday 7th May
- Friday 14th May
Whole School Cross Country Carnival will be Thursday 20th May.
The turnout for Cross Country Training for previous years are amazing and it was great to see so many students keen to get involved. The safety of the students is something we are very conscious of, especially with the large numbers we are again expecting. We are therefore asking for some parent helpers to assist with marshalling and watching over the students as they train. If you can assist on any of the listed dates, please indicate this on the form below.
We will again be offering breakfast for $2 back at school before classes begin at 9.00am. We will also need parent helpers to assist with the preparation and serving of the breakfast. This often proves challenging to ensure consistency of numbers to assist with preparation so this year we will distribute a roster via SZapp. Please indicate if you can help with this at any of the training sessions. Students need to please bring $2 each week if they wish to eat breakfast provided by the school.
As mentioned, it was fantastic to see the enthusiasm to take part in the sessions we held in previous years, the participation level was terrific. Having said that, it’s important to emphasise this is a Cross Country training session and we expect the children to be on the move the majority of the time. Other than stopping quickly for the occasional drink, they should be trying to jog around the track and when not able to run, continuing to move by walking. We want to try and minimise having children just sitting around and talking at the meeting point for most of the session.
Please submit the form back to school by Tuesday 20th April.
The expectation for each parent/carer role is as follows:
Breakfast Duty: Open up the tuckshop and set out Cereal/Milk and pre-cook toast. Serve breakfast and collect gold coin donation. As students head to class ensure tuckshop is cleaned up and closed before departing. Breakfast duty should start at 8am and you should be done at 9am.
Marshalling at the track: Report to Adrian Costa to be allocated a position on the track to supervise children as they run. The outline of the running track will depend on whether we have enough parents to supervise all areas that the children run. Marshall duty begins at 7:45am and finishes at 8:30am.
Thank you,
Adrian Costa
The senior students (grades 4-6) will be participating in the Dendy and Holt Cross Country Carnival at Bald Hill Park, Oakleigh on Friday May 14th.

Holt Football Lightning Premiership
The Holt Football Lightning Premiership will be for the senior students (grades 4-6) who will be participating against other schools in a round robin tournament. This event will occur on the 4th June.

Holt Netball Lightning Premiership
The Holt Netball Lightning Premiership will be for the senior students (grades 4-6) who will be participating against other schools in a round robin tournament. This event will occur on the 10th June.

At this stage we will still have the 2021 Athletics Carnival this Thursday the 25th March. We will make our final decision on Thursday morning whether to postpone it or not.
Please see below for the timetable of how the day will run.
Students are allowed to wear their house colours and put on face paint for the day.
In the meantime could you please pray to Saint Joseph to keep the rain away!
A massive thank you to all the parent helpers we had during swim squad. These training sessions all ran smoothly and the students (and teacher) were always well fed after the training sessions. So thank you to all who helped out with this.
Also another big thank you to all the parent volunteers who will be helping with the Athletics Carnival this Thursday. We honestly can not do this event without the support from you as a community. So again a big thank you!
