We understand there were some issues logging onto our beautiful First Sunday of Advent Mass. Regardless, those of you who managed to go on had a special treat indeed. Our Foundation students did us proud! I'd like to thank the teachers and parents for the preparation that went into the Mass, Fr Hayes for taking the time to pre-record it and to the wonderful Miss Archer for ensuring it all happened. If you have not yet been able to watch the Mass please click here.
We have managed to collect two big bags of fabulous toys for our Toy Appeal!!! Let's keep going! One more day.
In a year that has been challenging for all, please spare a thought for those that have been hit the hardest - Those who’ve lost the security of a safe place to call home.
OLOL prides itself on how our school community rallies together in times of need. This year, we are proud to be running The Salvation Army Crisis Centre Toy Appeal. The crisis centre offers vulnerable families with young children and those most at risk a safe and warm environment, something everyone should be entitled to.
All donations will go to children in the crisis centres who would otherwise wake up Christmas morning to no gift.
It has been kindly requested that all toys are to be brand new and unwrapped so the volunteers can ensure that each toy is delivered to the appropriate child.
There are big collection bags in the front foyer for toy donations.
Toys for ages 2-10 will be graciously welcome by no later than Friday the 4th December. (One more day!!)
On behalf of all at OLOL, I know this will be yet another successful appeal and one that will be sure to put a smile on a lot of children’s faces. Thank you!
Food For Friends Christmas Dress Up Day
OLOL always plays an important part in our Parish's participation in the Ecumenical Christmas charity 'Food For Friends'. Traditionally our families and senior students stand by trollies in our local Woolworths to collect hamper food for families in need. This year, and for this year only, Food For Friends will run in a different form due to COVID 19. Instead of asking for help in manning the collection trollies, Food For Friends is asking for financial donations.
To this end, our school will hold a...
CHRISTMAS DRESS UP DAY on Monday 14th December.
We are asking that families send in a cash donation that they can afford at this time and that way hopefully our school can give a significant gift to this worthy cause. If every family is able to send in even $5.00 that would raise over $500.00 from our community - imagine how much we might be able to donate to this cause. Please note Food for Friends is unable to issue receipts for the donations. The money will be spent on food and distributed to those in need.
Semester Two Reports will be available to view on our Parent Portal on Friday 11th December at 4 pm. If you have any questions or need assistance with accessing the Parent Portal please email Adrian McAlister (adrian.mcalister@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au). If you have forgotten your password, please enter your email address and click forgot password. As always if you would like to speak with your child's teacher regarding any aspect of the reports please email them to make a time to speak with them.
Have a lovely Christmas break!
Adrian McAlister

Classes and Structure for 2021
As we move with lightning speed toward the end of the year, teachers inhabit two worlds. The ‘now’ where we are teaching, assessing and reporting, and the ‘next year’ where we begin planning to give each child the best possible start to 2021.
We have just finished allocating students to their 2021 classrooms and teachers.
Where a child is in a class that is split between 2 or 3 teachers we take great pains and many hours to make sure that as far as we possibly can, the students are allocated to environments that are conducive to both their well-being and their learning. We take so many things into account including:
- The children all choose five friends that they would like to be with and we make sure they have at least one and mostly two 'chosen friends'
- We look at the teachers they have had previously, and although we like to change teachers so the students get to experience multiple teaching styles and relationships, it is sometimes in the child's interests that the child retain the same teacher.
- We endeavour to ensure our classrooms are as balanced as we can in the following areas:
- gender
- academic needs
- social and emotional needs
- year levels.
As you can appreciate, this is no small task but the proof of our deliberations is shown in the successful learning program we are running at OLOL.
So to 2021 the following structures and teachers will be in place at OLOL:
2 x Prep/1 classes with Alison March and Eimear Ross
3 x Year 2/3 classes with Irene Archer, Daniel Podbury and Jamie Jackson
1 x Year 4 class with Angelique Gabriel
and 1 x Year 5/6 class with Adrian Costa
The philosophy that has been driving the literacy and maths curriculums in this school for the last seven years is one of flexible learning. This is ensuring that all of the students at OLOL are improving at or above our expectations. Flexible Learning at OLOL is when the students move to the teacher that is addressing your child’s learning need rather than staying with their designated classroom teacher at all times.
Later in the year, students will meet their new teachers and classmates.
Thank you all for your continued support,
Francine
