Dear Parents,
I think the dreadful weather last weekend nearly did us all in! But now, as I write this there is sun and the world seems OK again. We have been busy this week digitising many of our existing publications with a view to having them more accessible for potential enrolments. Our new website is extremely comprehensive and we owe Miss Archer and several 'proofreading' parents a big thank you for helping us get it off the ground. Now on top of our schmick new website we have a couple of schmick new presentations. In the tiles at the bottom of the home page is 'Prospectus'. If you go to that tile you will find a new digital book form of our old prospectus. We have also created a little 'flipbook' that will go on our Facebook page.
On Tuesday evening we held our School Education Board AGM. We are still on the lookout for another member so if you feel that you would like to be part of the OLOL strategic direction and can help out by playing a role on the board, please let Francine know. We welcomed Clare Meade to the board this year and thank her very much for taking on yet another project when she has such a busy life. We had two positions vacated on the board this year. Liz Moran's family moved overseas at the beginning of the year and so we voted in a new chair to replace her; Andrew Grant. Tarryn Gillies resigned from her role as secretary and was replaced by Annabel Dungey. We thank Andrew and Annabel for taking on the positions. A huge thank you to both Liz and Tarryn for the wonderful job they have both done on the board for the past while.
The focus of our survey this week is on Wellbeing. The first section is child-centered and we ask that you complete it with your child - or ask them to complete it depending on their level of digital independence and the last couple of questions are for you.
While on the topic of Wellbeing you will read in this letter about the Wellbeing Workshops we are holding on the final three days of school (Wed 16, Thurs 17 Fri 18.) While you and your children are choosing and completing these workshops the staff will be spending the three days on Professional Learning, Term three assessment analysis/reporting, and a planning day for term four.
I understand all our lives are hard and complicated at the moment but Fr Hayes shared this prayer in the bulletin a few weeks ago and it is such a hopeful prayer I thought I would share it with you.
Lord, grant us a strong and courageous faith,
a faith that burns brightly even in times of darkness,
a faith that doesn't falter even when there are no miracles or happy endings
a Good Friday faith that trusts in the dawn of Easter,
A faith that is rooted in your love for us
and that expresses itself in love for others.
Fr Flor McCarthy - Dublin 2013
And so with that, I ask you to keep strong and courageous and wait for the dawn.
Thank you all for your continued support, love, and gratitude,
Francine
Congratulations to all the students in Foundation who have completed their first 100 days of school. We are so very proud of you all and your hard work. Even though we are currently apart, we come together each day to chat, laugh and learn. We hope all the students in Foundation enjoyed the disco as much as the teachers did. Cannot wait to see how much you learn in the next 100 days!
We are very excited to finish off our busy term with a range of Wellbeing Workshops from Wednesday 16 - Friday 18 September.
Staff members will each present an activity that aligns with the GEM (Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness) themes of our Wellbeing Curriculum. Some examples include: meditation, craft, fitness and cooking. We are sure that the broad range of activities will pique everyone's interests and they have been desgined to require very few materials that can be found around the home.
These activities may be completed in any order; individually or as a family. We believe your families will benefit from spending this time together while also reinforcing students' learning from the Resilience Project wellbeing lessons.
Please keep your eyes peeled on our online platforms for more information about our Wellbeing Workshops including advertising materials created by our SRC. A presentation of videos will also be published prior to the event. Staff members have thoroughly enjoyed creating this event to support your children's wellbeing and we hope you enjoy engaging in the activities together.
Warm Regards,
Angelique Gabriel- Student Wellbeing Leader
Fr Hayes Zooming with Years 4, 5 and 6
The year 4, 5 and 6 students were extremely lucky to have the amazing Father Hayes join them via zoom for a special Religion lesson. The students were learning about how the Catholic Church has adapted during this lockdown period. Father gave the students and staff a wonderful insight into all the changes that he has made to still be able to celebrate the Eucharist. The students and the staff were so appreciative of Father to spend some time with us during his busy schedule. So thank you once again Father Hayes!
Light in the Darkness
Monday 31st August at 7:00pm.
On the eve of spring in Australia you are invited to a moment of unity and time out to pray for our suffering world. Light in the Darkness is an initiative of the churches of Victoria, it is a simple ritual of light and prayer. As the last light of the last day of winter fades, stand in your garden and spend some time in silence, light a candle if you can, to remember all those who have lost their lives to the Coronavirus or to violence. Then, as the first night of spring begins, look to the future with prayer and hope. Let us move from the cold and the dark into warmth and light together.
We would love to see photos of you and your family in your garden with your candle. Please email your photos to Irene Archer (irene.archer@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au) and we will collate these photos and share them with you when we get back to school.

OLOL Spirit Competition - Recycled Jewellery and Accessories
Thank you to all the students who sent through their entries for the Term 3 OLOL Spirit competition. There are some truly amazing pieces of recycled jewellery and accessories that are going to make it a very close competition. All the staff at OLOL will be casting their vote and the winner will be announced at Monday's assembly.
Good luck!
For those of you who live close to the corner of Toorak Rd and Mathoura Rd ... Spoonville has arrived at Sezana's Cafe in Toorak Village!
If you pop into Sezana's and ask politely they will happily give you a lovely wooden spoon. Then you can take it home, decorate it, and then add it to the 'Spoonville' located outside the front of the cafe. Its a lovely community fun thing to do!
They are also putting children's happy artwork up in their windows if anyone would like to paint or draw a picture.
On the last day of Term 3 we celebrate the AFL Grand Final by putting on our favourite sporting colours and join in a series of fun footy activities. Sadly we will not be able to do that this year. Instead, I would like all OLOL families to email through photos of your family in your footy or sporting colours which will be collated into a short presentation and shared with the school community in the last week of term. Please email all photos to Adrian McAlister (adrian.mcalister@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au) by Friday 4th of September.
Go Pies!
