Dear Families,
I hope that you are all well and have been spending some quality time with your family, in what can only be described as a strange holiday break! Last week the Premier and Minister for Education announced that, on the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer, all Victorian Government and Catholic Schools will transition back to remote learning arrangements for the first five weeks of Term 3 (July 20th onwards).
The staff has been working this week onsite to prepare for the next stage of learning in Term Three. This second lockdown is obviously an unprecedented step in response to unprecedented circumstances. I greatly appreciate your support as we navigate our way through these ongoing and challenging times.
The following measures are now in place:
All students will be learning from home and undertaking the OLOL Remote Learning program from Monday 20th July.
Students whose parents cannot work from home are able to attend school and will be supervised by either a VIT registered teacher or a staff member with a Working with Children Check.
Students who need to attend school will be undertaking the same Remote Learning as students who are learning from home and will be supervised adhering to strict social distancing guidelines. As was the case last term, students who attend school will not be taught a different program from those learning at home.
I ask that you please be patient and understanding. Please be assured that our staff are well prepared for this scenario and have spent the week looking at our next stages in the remote learning journey and responding to student, staff and parent feedback. It was fortuitous that we were able to have some time at the end of last term with our beautiful students. We were able to assess them during this time and so our next phase of learning is based on the data we collected then. This puts us in a very good position to cater to the children now in remote learning.
Through their amazing commitment during last term, teachers were skilled up in online platforms, technology was tested and many issues were resolved. I am so incredibly proud of what the OLOL team achieved in Term 2. A term that was unlike any other that Education has ever seen and one in which the staff and students (and parents) of OLOL have stood up and performed in a way that many schools can only dream of.
Our community have been so positive and supportive about the remote learning experience and what was provided to the children of OLOL. We are grateful for the gifts, emails, and feedback we all received at the end of last term.
I will be sending further communication as things evolve and encourage you to use our Online Learning Hub [The green button on the ZSapp] where we will continue to circulate other information and try and keep some normality for the children as well.
A reminder that students attending school will undergo a daily temperature check on arrival. If over 37.5 the school will be asking parents to collect the child and keep them at home, seek medical advice and not return to school until the temperature is normal and the child is in full health.
I thank you for your ongoing kindness and understanding. This will most certainly be a time we reflect on for many years to come. Hopefully recalling these challenges we faced allowed for a great deal of quality family time and the maintenance of the health of our family and friends.
Please stay home, stay safe and take care of yourselves and each other.
Regards,
Francine

A couple of changes this time round ...
- Each day will begin with a video or zoom session with a greeting from your teacher, a prayer and a section outlining that day's activities. Please read your classroom notifications for more and specific details as to what your child's teacher is doing.
- This time the take-home packs have five weeks of work contained in them. Please ensure that they are opened as required.
- We have allocated a specialist timetable so that students that come in for onsite supervision are all completing the same afternoon activity or subject area. IF your child is not attending onsite supervision at all then you do not have to follow this guide AT ALL. for families that are using onsite supervision - we ask that you do follow this guide.
Thank you.

Conditions of Onsite Supervision
Students will be learning from home, except for those in the following categories:
Children on days when they are not able to be supervised at home and no other arrangements can be made. This will be available for children of parents/carers who cannot work from home, any student with a disability and vulnerable children, including:
– children in out-of-home care
– children deemed by Child Protection and/or Family Services to be at risk of harm
– children identified by the school as vulnerable (including via referral from a family violence agency, homelessness or youth justice service, or mental health or other health service).
The application form (below) must be submitted weekly by Thursday for approval for attendance the following week. Please fill in the government form attached here.
All applications must be submitted to the Principal at principal@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au
Students who have approval to attend on-site will only be permitted to enter the school buildings if they are in good health. It is very important that students are aware that school will run very differently to what students are familiar with. The following protocols will be strictly applied:
-
Each child will have their temperature taken upon arrival and must thoroughly sanitise their hands in the foyer of the school (outside the sickbay).
-
Parents and/or carers will not be permitted to enter the school building and should wait with their child. Children will be collected by a member of the school leadership team from the front entrance of the school at 9:00am.
-
Students are to be collected from the front entrance of the school at either 12.30pm or 3:30pm.
-
The back entrance (A'beckett St) to the school will not be utilised at all.
-
Students with approval to be at school must attend in full school uniform.
-
Students at school will be supervised to complete the same remote learning platform as the students at home.
-
The specialist programs will be delivered like the rest of the curriculum from our online platform.

Take Home Packs - Foundation / One
Dear Parents/Carers,
Continuing on from our very successful remote learning in Term Two we are very confident with our impending delivery of education. Your support to your child throughout remote learning in Term Two was outstanding and we could not have achieved as much as we did without you! We hope that you will find comfort in the knowledge that we have changed very little to our approach to remote and flexible learning 2.0. What does that mean? You ask. It means that we are utilising Seesaw to the MAX! Just like in Term Two you will again receive a daily checklist of activities to complete.
We have put a lot of effort and love into the Take Home Packs for your child/ren and they incorporate an abundance of activities that are stimulating, engaging and focus on key skills across all curriculum areas. Please do not allow your child to complete a week of work in one day, instead aim to have them done on the day they are scheduled for. This is because they will be supported with Seesaw activities that will be posted on a daily basis.
At the front of the F/1 Pack you will find your child’s login details for the websites and programs we will be using. Foundation students will now have access to PM Online. It is an App which is designed to support students in learning to read. Year 1’s will continue to use the very popular reading site EPIC and the Year 1 students have a new login code for their Literacy Group.
Literacy and Numeracy are stapled together by weeks (e.g. Week 2, Week 3... etc). For ease, we have also dated every activity at the top of the page for you to follow. The Foundation students will also receive an extra Resource Pack with Magic Words and letter formation. There is also a mindfulness pack for all F/1 students, full of colouring pages, mazes, spot the differences and scavenger hunts to complete at your child's leisure.
This time you will find some new additions in our packs! We have included a Religion pack with one activity to be completed by the end of each week (it is dated for every Monday for those children who will be coming into school as they are from essential households). The teachers of our specialist subjects (Art, PE, STEMS) have also made a Take Home Packs with an activity to be completed every week. These activities are also dated for children coming to school. Italian lessons will all be online - (not included in the packs)
If you are finding that the amount of work is too difficult to manage, please feel free to make modifications as per Term 2. Your family's well being is of the most importance! We will continue to post a daily checklist on Seesaw, with photos of the pages that your child should work on that day. So please double check with the checklist if you are having any difficulties.
Finally, we please ask that when uploading your child’s completed work for the day that you collocate it to ensure it is in one post only.
Kind regards,
F/1 Team xoxo
Take Home Packs - Year Two and Three
Dear Parents,
Your child's home learning pack includes a range of hardcopy activities that will be used in conjunction with digital work delivered through Google Classroom. We have split the home learning activities across four folders. This will ensure students are able to locate work easily and keep work organised within the folder.
We do ask that you not allow your child to complete the activities all in one go. The weekly overview on Google Classroom, will guide them on what work needs to be completed each day. The teachers of our specialist subjects (Art, PE, STEMS) have also made an activity booklet which you will find in the home learning pack.
Students in Year 2 and 3 will receive the following in their home learning pack
- Four folders containing hardcopy work
- Scrapbook
- Lined writing book
- Handwriting book
- 30 centimeter ruler
- Selection of readers
More details about the Year 2 and 3 home learning packs will be emailed directly to parents on Friday.
We are looking forward to working together to deliver an engaging, challenging and fun home learning program in Term 3.

Online Learning Program - Year Four, Five and Six
Dear Parents,
We are so proud of how resilient your children were during our transition to remote learning in Term 2, and how quickly they adapted to our online program. Therefore, during Term 3 the Years 4,5,6 students will continue using online platforms to complete their remote learning program.
Tasks will be assigned on both Seesaw and Google Classroom, with all resources and information required saved in the relevant "Classwork" folder on Google Classroom. All folders on Google Classroom are labelled with the relevant term and learning area, eg: "Term 3- LITERACY".
We suggest beginning each day by looking at the daily planner which specifies all task details, the resources required and where these can be accessed. Each day's daily planner will be posted at 4pm the previous day, and saved in the "Term 3- DAILY PLANNERS" folder in the Classwork section of Google Classroom.
We are looking forward to supporting your child's learning again from an online platform during Term 3.
Yours Sincerely,
Mr Costa and Ms Gabriel
