Well Being Week : Monday 18th May - Friday 22nd May
As a staff, we decided to run a 'Wellbeing Week' for Week 6 (week beginning 18th May) where we have suggested a series of daily tasks that pull back from the prescription of the past five weeks and look to explore family-based ‘fun’ activities.
Now that the government has given us a timeline to return to school this ‘Wellbeing Week’ sits extremely nicely as a final remote learning week for Foundation, Year 1, and Year 2 - and a bit of a midterm breather for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. This break to the intensity of the online program also means the teachers can use the reduced program time to begin writing semester reports, which will still take place but naturally will look different to our usual reports.
We feel this week will give our children some choice with their remote learning and also take the pressure off families a little.
The school is providing many elements of the activities to support the success of this week. All these elements are available from the Art Room, but if you read the slide show attached all will become clear.
If you feel that you would prefer your child to continue with the more formal English and Maths curriculum we will set an online Maths and English activity each day.
If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email me: principal@olprahraneast.catholic.edu.au
Wishing you all a great week ahead.
Francine
School Hall Renovations - Part 1
In the gallery below we have included photos of how the school hall was as we all left for the Easter Holidays The ramp was not complete and we were missing carpet tiles. So while you have been away all of that FINALLY got completed. Then we took the opportunity of decreased foot traffic to make some further cosmetic adjustments to our tired school hall.
School Hall Renovations - Part 2
Things to note...
- completely painted the entire hall a lovely cozy shade of white - even the bits you can't see like behind the stage curtain
- added OLOL navy accents around the room
- FINALLY painted the YELLOW pole in the middle of the hall (there is a bit more to come with this feature)
- removed broken seat from along the window wall
- removed the yukky red strip of pinboard and replaced it with three stylish navy blue boards
- took down the stage curtaining and completely cleaned every inch of them, replaced their hooks and then put them back up
- painted the old cross to create a beautiful fresh (but ever so tasteful) piece
- cleaned and buffed the piano
I was going to let this all be a big surprise for when you all got back but as of this morning the cupboards at the back of the hall that house our uniform are all being removed because of the damage caused by the last flood. Therefore the place is going to look like a big mess again for a little while and I wanted to share how beautiful it looks before this all happens.
The SRC have organised a thoughtful initiative to show members of our community gratitude during this challenging time. We are aiming to spread joy through our beautiful and creative card-making skills and have already put smiles on many faces. Please see the video attached for more information about this important initiative. This card making exercise is Activity 2 in our 'Wellbeing Week'
We are very pleased to announce we have booked an
Online Parent Information Session with Hugh
on Wednesday 27th May at 7.00pm
Join Zoom Meeting:
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/
Meeting ID: 874 3369 6138
Our programs are based on the following strategies:
Gratitude - Appreciating what you have, not begrudging what you don’t.
Empathy - Thinking of the needs of others/kindness.
Mindfulness - Being present in the moment, not becoming distracted by unhelpful or negative thoughts.
During this presentation, Hugh will share his experiences and combine them with practical strategies that can be implemented everyday to improve our overall wellbeing.
We are now moving into 'phase 2' which is the Construction Competition! This comp involves students and families to construct any sort of construction. It can be made out of lego, meccano or anything they have around the home. This does not mean you have to go out and buy new lego etc. Entries will need to be sent to Mr. Mac by 22nd May and again the amazing judges will be the amazing teachers!

As school returns across Australia, Extend is excited to be able to again fully support our communities.
While restrictions are being lifted, we still need to remain vigilant with hygiene and social distancing practices.
We have expanded our usual safety procedures to incorporate national recommendations regarding COVID-19 prevention.
- Additional training in the last two weeks:
- All Extend Educators, Operational management and Executive management at Extend have completed the Australian Government’s COVID-19 Infection Control Training, in conjunction with Aspen Medical.
- All Extend Educators have completed the Department of Health and Human Services nationally recognised food handling safety course DoFoodSafely.
-
Drop off and pick up procedures: Parents are asked not to enter the service past the sign in desk unless absolutely necessary.
- Social distancing measures for adults: Parents/guardians who do need to enter the service are asked to remain four (4) metres away from the nearest child, and 1.5 metres away from the nearest Educator. Please avoid prolonged interactions with our Educators or other adults in the service and do not move past the sign in desk when collecting your child.
- Social distancing measures for children: With consistent messaging from parents and Educators, we are able to implement 1.5 metre social distancing between children and Educators and between children and children in our services.
- Hand hygiene: Diligent hand hygiene is always part of our daily routine. Liquid hand soap is available in multiple locations in each service. Children continue to be encouraged to wash their hands even more regularly throughout the service, as demonstrated by our Educators.
- Surface disinfectant: All hard surfaces, including tables, benches and door handles are regularly disinfected. This includes, but is not limited to, prior to the service starting and before and after food preparation
- Signing in and out of the service: It is important to remain at the sign in desk when collecting your child rather than moving around in the service. Please adhere to the hygiene instructions for signing in and out at your service.
- Outdoor school playgrounds: As per current government restrictions, all playground equipment will remain off limits until we are advised it is safe to use this equipment.
- Play: There are no group activities where close proximity is required. This includes group sports. We are constantly designing activities, and giving children a say in the activities, to ensure children remain engaged and connected to their Educator and each other, while remaining at a safe physical distance.
- Food: Breakfast is provided before school and afternoon tea is provided after school each day as usual. Should parents still wish to provide all food for their child we will continue to support this choice. But please be rest assured our services are hygienic and food is prepared with tongs, so it is safe to eat the food prepared at the service.
- Illness: Keep your child at home if they are sick. Based on health advice we are unable to accept your child into the service if they have any signs of infection. If your child is unwell at the service, even with minor symptoms, they will sit away from other children until a parent or guardian can collect them.
Everyone at every Extend service can expect to be safe and it is a shared responsibility to ensure we keep all children and adults safe at our services. We continue to be updated with the most recent health advice to ensure our processes are always the most current health and safety processes.
This information can be found on our website here.
With sincere thanks,
Extend Team
