... No worries, I was emailing Jamie to thank her too. We are coping fine, ***** insisting the audio feedback from Jamie is played multiple times so he can wallow in praise, the little show pony…though he reckons I am not suitably authorised to issue behaviour reports if required to do so, as I am only his part time teaching assistant!
That’s not as funny as when I was doing an appearance by video yesterday in the Supreme Court of WA yesterday and ***** would siddle over every now and then to whisper to me from off-camera that the judge looked pretty cross and ask whether I was winning or not…professional sledging from your own kid, what are you teaching them in that school?
I am the fill-in “Coordinator” for the day. 3 students with vastly different levels of commitment to the tasks at hand.
All I want to say is that if I could quit my job and do something else, can it be a Grade 1-er at OLOL! If You notice carefully, the Clown story that has just been uploaded on see-saw, it has been professionally coloured-in by both **** and I!
Interestingly I have been sent this four times...."It may take a village to raise a child, but I swear it's gonna take a vineyard to homeschool one"
Here’s one for you ... not so much about homeschooling (***** being the ever diligent and focused little human that she is, once organised she is totally focused - I take full credit for her taking after her mum :) with respect to these attributes). On the other side of life is two working from home parents ... I’m situated out in our back room with a lovely work from home set up. This includes my own toilet ... little Miss 3 has taken to using my “work” toilet as her own ... I’m on a video call with my boss, little Miss 3 comes in, announces she need to do a poo, walks into the loo, does said poo, yells out “Mum, can you wipe my bum” and, as only two working mums (my boss and I) could do ... we carry on with our call while I wipe said bottom and we all move on!
God Bless you all,
Francine
Parent reminders about Online learning
1. Overwhelmingly the teachers wanted me to thank parents for the support they have been. It is clear that many many parents are really trying to make the most of both what is happening on the home front and what the school is providing.
2. In all the recommendations given out by both the governments and the CECV students should not be on devices longer than three hours. We have kept these limitations in mind when setting work, so please enforce these hours at home. There is so much more than the students can do other than the online tasks.
3. We have been very clear on the model of online delivery we are using. Our teachers are accessible from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm. They continue to work after that but they are not expected to respond to emails etc. So please understand that if you email after 12.00 pm they will respond as soon as they are able the following day/days.
4. As many queries are technological, we now also have in place a free technology service provided by the school's technicians Centerinno. (See Technology Support Item in this newsletter)
5. Please please please feel free to modify work. Teachers are MORE than happy that you make the tasks 'fit' the child. We call this differentiating and we do it ALL the time. The teachers are happy for you to adapt the work and you don't have to ask permission or check first. We trust you.
6. It's OK to have a break and then come back to a task. This isn't school - your day is your own. You are the best judge as to your child's where-with-all. But the message from the teachers is - its OK to have a break.
7. And finally, as I wrote last Friday - Switch off on the weekend. Please do not allow the children to post over the weekend. The teachers need a break from the screen and I suspect you and your family do too.
Online Learning Parent Feedback Form
- We have been doing this for just one week
- We need to know what we are doing well and where we can improve
- When you are writing your feedback please be careful of the tone
- We will use the feedback to adapt aspects of our program.
We look forward to your responses. Thank you
For those of us missing the very thing that makes OLOL so special, namely 'a feeling of pride and mutual loyalty shared by the members of a group' I am happy to let you know that isolation can't keep a good community down! Both our Senior Leadership Group (School Captains) and our Student Representative Council (SRC) have projects in the pipeline that will ensure that our OLOL spirit is alive and well during this time. Stay tuned for more information as these groups zoom together and put some school-wide plans in place!
I have made some changes to the daily planners. I have now added a time next to each task. These are here to make sure that you are not rushing each task as well as to make sure you are not spending all day on the one task. Once you get to the max time limit for that task please stop and just submit whatever you have done in that time.
Some things you need to remember:
-
Try your best to do each of the activities on the daily planner online and not the hard copy as I have made changes.
-
You should be doing at least 30mins per day of exercise. Mrs. Mcleary has posted some great activities for you to do each day on google classroom.
-
If you are having any problems please email me.
-
You need to make sure you are doing your spelling words everyday. You do this on google classroom under the spelling tab.
-
Make sure you all complete the ‘Making Connections’ sheet only once a week.
-
Please read each task's instructions carefully.
Have another great week Mr Costa
- All information and resources regarding "what to do" each day can be found online on Google Classroom.
- Tasks are described in the Daily Planners and all resources are in the Classwork section of Google Classroom.
- Please make sure your child reads this information carefully.
- I want to continue supporting their learning from this new platform, so please ask your child to send me a message if they are unsure "how to do" a task.
- I am always happy to answer questions or support their learning and development in any other way possible.
From Mr Podbury and Miss Archer
Dear Parents,
THANK YOU for your patience with the online learning this week.
As we have transitioned to home learning, it has been pleasing to have parents contact us in relation to how it is working for them at home. We appreciate parents taking the time to contact us in relation to the amount of work students need to complete everyday. As we continue on this home learning journey together, we will always endeavour to tailor the home learning to suit families to ensure students have a balance of all subjects. Finding the happy medium between enough work and too much work is an ongoing process but we will keep trying!
We have thoroughly enjoyed our one to one conferences, these have been the highlight of our day! We have enjoyed seeing the children and listening to how the online learning is going for them, as well as hearing about how you as parents are getting on.
We particularly love that some parents have a designated ‘Staffroom’ and so the children are not allowed to disturb their new ‘Classroom Teacher’.
Daniel and Irene
Hello,
Well done and thank you to the parents who have been successfully submitting work from the Take Home Pack in 1 upload. You are Seesaw experts! If you are able to upload all of your child's work from the Take Home Pack in one upload please do.
Everyone is doing such a wonderful job supporting their child and us the teachers during this time. Keep up the wonderful work!
We are in the midst of planning something special for Mother's Day. Please send us a photo of your child with mum, a grandmother or special friend.
Please send the photo to your classroom teacher.
Thank you!
