Loving God,
We come before you today with open hearts,
Asking for your guidance and strength.
Help us to be kind, to listen, and to care
For those who may be struggling in silence.
Grant us the courage to ask, “Are you OK?”
And the wisdom to respond with compassion.
May we offer support and understanding
To all who are burdened by worries or pain.
Let your love and light shine through us,
So that we can lift each other up
And build a community of hope and healing.
Amen.
Dear OLOL Families,
In today’s digital age, it’s essential for parents to stay actively involved in their children’s online activities, particularly when it comes to chat apps like Kids Messenger. While these platforms provide a fun way for kids to connect, they can also become channels for negative behaviours such as cyberbullying or inappropriate messaging. Since such behaviour typically occurs at home, it poses challenges for schools to address directly. Schools can educate students on safe and responsible online practices, but the most effective way to ensure a positive online presence starts at home. By regularly monitoring your child's online interactions and having open conversations about the importance of kindness and respect in digital spaces, you can help your child develop healthy online habits that will benefit them both socially and emotionally. Next year we will host a parent information session about social media and e-safety.
At the end of last week, you would have received an email from us asking you to complete the MACSIS survey. This survey is done annually by staff, students and parents and gives us valuable data about strengths and opportunities for growth. Usually, we only get a handful of parents completing the survey which means the data is not very representative. We would love all of our OLOL families to complete it if possible. The survey closes Friday 20th September.
Last Sunday, we held our first whole-school mass with Fr. Dean. While attendance was lower than usual due to conflicting events, we appreciate those who were able to join us. To address this issue, we're exploring strategies to reduce scheduling conflicts and ensure strong attendance in the future. Our next mass is on December 1st, where we'll welcome new Prep students and their families.
On December 5th, we're hosting our annual Our Lady of Lourdes Colour Fun Run. This exciting event includes tabloid sports hosted by Kaboom! and a colourful run. All proceeds will go towards building additional learning spaces to support our growing enrollment. We encourage families to participate and help their children fundraise.
There's just one week left in the term! Next Friday, September 20th, we're hosting our annual OLOL Footy Fun Day. Kids can dress up in their favourite team colours and participate in skill-based activities. We invite parents to join us and help out. The event runs from 9:10 AM to 10:45 AM, and school will conclude at 1 PM. Extend Aftercare is available for bookings from 1 PM to 6 PM.
On behalf of all the staff, we wish you a safe and enjoyable two-week break. We look forward to hearing all about the fun things our families got up to during this time.
Together, we can achieve great things. Thank you for your continued support and dedication.
Adrian McAlister
Footy Fun Day is on next week, Friday 20th September (last day of Term 3). Students are invited to dress up in their football team colours. This can be either AFL, NRL, Rugby or Soccer or your favourite sports team. The idea is to celebrate the football finals and generally have a bit of fun by supporting your team at school.
Parents are welcome to join us from 9.10am - 10.45am.
If you can not make it in person please print and complete the order form below and hand it in at the school office by Thursday 12th September. Your order will then be ready for collection and payment from the school office.
While on the subject of uniform – as it is the end of the term, could we please ask everyone to check their child’s uniform to ensure that all of the articles they are wearing (and any they may have in their bags) actually belong to them (in particular jumpers and jackets). Also, please ensure that all items of uniform are clearly marked with your child’s name.
Please remind your children that they need to be responsible for their own belongings!
