Prayer - Feast of the Assumption
Heavenly Father,
On this sacred day of the Feast of the Assumption, we gather in reverence to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary, whom you lifted into Heaven, body and soul, as a sign of your great love. We give thanks for her life of humble service and her unwavering faith.
Mary, our Mother, we ask for your intercession as we strive to follow your example of purity, grace, and obedience to God's will. May we, like you, trust in the Lord's promises and seek to do His will in all things.
As we reflect on your glorious Assumption, may our hearts be filled with hope and joy, knowing that you continue to watch over us and lead us closer to your Son, Jesus Christ. Guide us on our journey of faith, and help us to grow in love, compassion, and holiness.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Dear OLOL Families,
Thank you to all the parents who joined us last week for our school athletics day. The weather was perfect, and the kids had a fantastic time competing in their events. One student shared, "I couldn't believe I came first!". Congratulations to Red House for winning the competition.
This week marks the National Week of Action for Bullying No Way. It's a powerful reminder for all of us to prioritise the wellbeing of our children and students. Our students often face social challenges, and by having regular conversations, we can help them develop the skills and confidence to stand up against unfair treatment. I encourage you to talk with your children this week about what to do if they experience unfair treatment and who they can trust to speak to. The safety and wellbeing of our students are always our top priority.
Yesterday, I attended the annual Edutech Conference with our ICT Leader, Vanessa. It was a fantastic event that emphasised the importance of online safety and limiting students' exposure to online content. The conference also showcased amazing technology that can enhance our students' learning experiences. For example, using Google for Education resources allows students to explore, share, and present their work in small groups or as a whole class. The development of online education has been extraordinary, offering students a variety of ways to access and share their learning.
Next week, we will celebrate National Book Week with the theme "Reading is Magic." On Wednesday, students are invited to dress up as their favourite book character, and we'll have a series of activities to celebrate. Our Book Fair will also be open in the library from Monday 19th August until Wednesday 21st August for families to purchase books.
Please keep an eye on our school calendar to stay up to date with all events happening in the coming weeks.
Together, we can achieve great things. Thank you for your continued support and dedication.

By logging in to view your child’s online portfolio, you can see their progress, celebrate achievements, and support their learning. A quick like or comment on their work can boost their confidence and show them that their efforts are valued.
If you’re having trouble accessing Seesaw, please contact your child’s teacher for assistance.
Thank you for your continued support!
Year 5/6 Confirmation Information Evening
Next Tuesday 20th of August is the Sacrament of Confirmation information evening. It is taking place at St. Peter's Catholic Centre: 581 Toorak Rd, Toorak (next door to St Peter's Church). The session begins at 6pm, and all students and families completing their Confirmation are expected to attend.
The theme for Book Week 2024 is 'Reading is Magic'.
Book Week Dress-up Day is Wednesday 21st August.
On this day children can dress up as their favourite book character or magic-themed costume. Children may like to bring in their favourite book to share with their classmates.
The Book Week Parade will commence at 9:10am on the Playground. Parents are welcome to join us.
We kindly ask that children bring a gold coin donation on this day. All money raised from Book Fair and gold coin donations will be donated to the World Literacy Foundation Australia who work with families in Uganda who do not have access to books. This will help support children in need of Literacy resources.
Our Scholastic Book Fair will commence on Monday 19th August. The Book Fair will be held on:
Monday - Wednesday 8:30-9:00am
Monday - Tuesday 3:30-4:00pm
The children will have an opportunity to view the books on Thursday or Friday this week and create a 'Wish List' which can then be purchased using the QR Code which will be sent home on Friday afternoon. You can also come and purchase the books from the School Library at any of the times above.
In order for the Book Fair to run we would appreciate some assistance on the days. If you are free please sign up here.
All money raised will be donated to children living in rural areas of Uganda who do not have access to books.
We hope to see you there!

Kind regards,
Mr. Venier
We were blessed with what felt like a day in the middle of Summer with blue skies, light winds and sunshine for the OLOL Athletics Carnival. There was a buzz of excitement and energy in the air, as students made their way to Orrong Park dressed with pride in green, gold and red and ready for a day of track and field events.
It was a fantastic day of competition with students competing across different events. With both track and feild events on the menu, it gave all the students the chance to showcase their many talents from sprinting, long distance running, throwing, balancing and passing. It was great to see students from Prep to Year Six trying their absolute best at each event and giving everything a red, hot, go! Thanks to Mrs McLeary for preparing the students during their PE lessons and teaching them all the skills across track and field events.
Congratulations to Red House on their victory winning with 255 points. Second and third were close with Gold House finishing on 210 points and Green House on 205 points.
The day was a great success because each and every student not only competed with victory on their mind, but also competed in the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship by congratulating, encouraging, supporting and cheering each other on.
Thank you to all parents who assisted with the event, the day isn't possible without the support of parents. A BIG thanks to the staff for their help throughout the day and we are lucky at OLOL to have staff who embrace and get into the spirit of school sporting events.
Mr Podbury
Thank you students and parents for your support of the Olympic fundraiser, we really appreciate it. The day was so much fun because everyone joined in the spirit of the Olympics. We raised $1,027 which will go towards the new bubblers. Thank you!
The SRC Team
On Thursday, 1st August the Year 3&4 students took to the floors of the Waverly Basketball Stadium for some hooptime action.
Hooptime is a great opportunity for students who not only play basketball to showcase their skills, but also students who are new to the game to learn new skills and play games against other schools.
It was a fantastic day with all teams enjoying success. Once again OLOL led the way with their sportsmanship, teamwork and support of each other through the day. It is great to see the OLOL teams enthusiastic about participating in sports and being willing to take on any and all challenges they face.
A big congratulations to all the OLOL students on their efforts across the day and a BIG thanks to Coach Morgan, Coach Robyn and the championship winning coach Michael Krezel who guided their teams throughout the day!
Mr Podbury
I would ask that all parents examine their child’s hair for signs of lice infestation. These usually first appear as eggs or nits, tiny silvery white specks attached to the hair shaft near the scalp.
If you find eggs in your child’s hair please treat immediately and do not send your child back to school until the eggs have been removed as well as treated.
Please note that you do need to check the hair for any eggs and remove them either by using the supplied comb or by pulling the egg off the hair strand with your finger nails.
Please make sure that you do regular checks on your child’s hair. If eggs are left, the lice will reinfest. It is also advisable to retreat the hair 7 days after the first treatment. It is also very important for all girls with long hair to wear it tied back.
The SZapp Calendar is packed with details on events, dress-ups, excursions, sports and more. Be sure to check it regularly, as we keep it updated with all the important information you need!
