Uniform Instructions for tomorrow
Holly Osborne will be in tomorrow taking photographs for the new school website. Children in Foundation, Years 1, 4, 5 and 6 are to wear their summer uniform. Children in Years 2 and 3 are to wear their sports uniform.
Classes and Structure for 2020
As we move with lightning speed toward the end of the year, teachers inhabit two worlds. The ‘now’ where we are teaching, assessing, reporting and learning carols and the ‘next year’ where we begin planning to give each child the best possible start to 2020. For example, today, our beautiful infant team welcomed the 28 new Foundation students with a full on morning of orientation activities but spent the afternoon embedded in their ‘now’ classes teaching. The Education Board met earlier this week and I took them through the changes for next year (thus far). So the time has come to announce the classes and changes for next year :
3 x F/1 classes with Alison March, Eimear Ross and Jamie Lee Jackson
A straight Year 2 class with Irene Archer
A straight Year 3 class with Daniel Podbury
A straight Year 4 class with Angelique Gabriel
and Year 5/6 class with Adrian Costa
The philosophy that has been driving the literacy and maths curriculums in this school for the last six years is one of flexible learning. This is ensuring that all of the students at OLOL are improving at or above our expectations. Flexible Learning at OLOL is when the students move to the teacher that is addressing your child’s learning need rather than staying with their designated classroom teacher at all times. Regardless of the fact that most of the classes are straight grades next year our flexible learning program will continue to operate.
The students will meet their new teacher and classmates on Monday 16th December.
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Monique Gaylor is leaving OLOL at the end of the year. We can blame exorbitant house prices in our leafy suburb for this sad move. Monique was/is such an asset to our community; her work in the infant area, her leadership of our Wellbeing initiatives and her happy beautiful nature will be sorely missed. We thank Monique for her all-too-brief time at OLOL and wish her and Josh all the best with their move and life in a new area.
As one door closes another opens. Daniel Podbury will be our new member of staff as of 2020. For those students who are really really old, they may remember Mr. Podubury who spent 2014 here with us as a student-teacher. There may even be some parents who remember the very enthusiastic, friendly Mr. Podbury! As he said to me yesterday, 'Its kind of like coming home!' We're lucky to have Mr. Podbury join our community and I am certain you will quickly feel the same way.
Thank you all for your continued support,
Regards
Francine
Food for Friends is an initiative of the Toorak Ecumenical Movement and involves three Parishes, St Peter's and Our Lady of Lourdes, St John's Anglican Church and the Toorak Uniting Churches.
The aim of the program is to provide non-perishable foods to those in need at Christmas. Non-perishable food is being collected over a number of days at Woolworths Supermarkets in Toorak and Hawksburn Villages.
Your contribution involves volunteering one or two hours of your time to sit or stand with your children next to a trolley, handing out flyers to explain what the program does. Thanking people is also a big part of the role.
The 2019 campaign runs from Friday 29th November until Sunday 8th December. Thank you to those who have already volunteered. We do still have spots available so if you and your child/ren would like to help out for an hour or two during the ten days, please sign up via the following link https://signup.zone/
Our garden Club has been busy harvesting! What a sensational sentence to be able to write! So this wondrously industrious and generous group have opted to sell their produce and give the money to Food for Friends rather than cook it up and eat it.
So after school next Friday (29th November) there will be a produce market on the basketball court. We ask that you park your cars, bring some cash and buy our delicious produce for a good cause. We also appeal to any families that are also gardening and have excess vegetables, herbs or flowers to bring them up to the school on Friday and add them to our stall.
A Message from the Toorak RSL Sub-Branch
A message from David O'Brien at Toorak RSL Sub-Branch regarding the Poppy Appeal:
Hi Irene,
I have just completed the financial reconciliation for our Toorak RSL Sub-Branch Poppy Appeal. All up Our Lady of Lourdes raised $421.00, which is a great result and well up on last year’s amount.
Please pass on my thanks to all staff and students, and a special thank you to you for your support.
I hope that we can call on Our Lady of Lourdes again for next year’s ANZAC Day Appeal.
Thank you again and all the very best for Christmas and the New Year.
Kind regards
David O’Brien

A reminder to our Swim Squad participants that training begins next Wednesday 27th November at 7am at the Prahran Swimming Pool. Training will then continue for the following two Wednesdays (4th and 11th December) and recommence in Term 1, 2020 in preparation for the HOLT Sports District Swimming Carnival. The dates for Swim Squad training in Term 1 are the 5th, 12th and 19th February 2020.
Please note that if your child is participating in Swim Squad the $35.00 fee for the this term must to be paid prior to next Wednesday. This fee covers lane hire and breakfast as well as contributing toward the bus for the Carnival.
Please also remember that the children will be travelling back to school by tram together at the conclusion of each training, hence they will need to bring a Myki card (with credit on it) for the tram.
Many thanks!
Welcome Mass for Foundation 2020
Sunday 1st December is the First Sunday of Advent - it is also our Welcome Mass for next years Foundation Families. Although this year’s Foundation and Year 1 families are hosting the Mass and Morning Tea which follows, it would be a great thing if the whole school was present in order for all these new families and students to feel that they are truly becoming part of a very special community. Please remember that all of our school leaders should absolutely be present at this Mass.
Carols, Graduation and End of Year Disco
On Thursday 12th December there will be a whole school celebration incorporating Christmas Carols, Year 6 Graduation Ceremony and End of Year Disco. The evening will begin in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 6:00pm. The Carols and Graduation Ceremony will be followed by the Disco at the school. All students will be part of this event so please save the date. ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND THE CAROLS AND GRADUATION.
