Our Lady of Lourdes
Catholic Primary School
At Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, we believe that every child has the potential to achieve great things, and we are dedicated to providing them with the best possible education to help them reach their full potential.

Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School is committed to providing a nurturing and stimulating learning environment that fosters a love of learning and equips students with the essential skills for success. Our curriculum is designed to cater to individual needs and learning styles, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

A structured weekly timetable provides a consistent and supportive learning environment, allowing students to focus on their studies and develop a strong work ethic. The curriculum is centred around student-centred lessons, which encourage active participation and critical thinking. This personalised approach allows students to progress at their own pace and build a solid foundation of knowledge.

Each day, students engage in a two-hour literacy block and a one-hour mathematics session. These dedicated timeframes ensure ample opportunity for in-depth exploration of these core subjects. To broaden their horizons and develop well-rounded skills, students also participate in four hours of specialist lessons each week, covering a variety of subjects such as art, music, physical education, and technology.

Our curriculum prioritises the development of essential skills. We encourage students to work independently, collaborate with peers, and think critically and creatively. Students learn to solve problems, generate new ideas, plan effectively, analyse information, and evaluate their work. This comprehensive approach equips students with the tools they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Horizons of Hope- Curriculum
English
A strong foundation in language is essential for academic success and personal growth. Our English curriculum focuses on developing students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Through phonics, phonological awareness, and vocabulary building, students learn to decode new words, understand complex texts, and express their ideas clearly.

By engaging in a variety of reading and writing activities, students develop a deep appreciation for literature and the power of language to shape our understanding of the world. Our curriculum emphasises the importance of effective communication through speaking and listening skills, enabling students to engage in meaningful discussions and collaborate with others.
Mathematics
In alignment with the Victorian Maths Curriculum 2.0, Our Lady of Lourdes Math’s Program is designed to empower students with a strong foundation in mathematical concepts. We emphasise hands-on learning, problem-solving, and real-world applications to help students develop critical thinking skills and a passion for mathematics. By understanding mathematical concepts and applying them to various contexts, students are well-prepared for future academic and professional challenges.
Inquiry
Our Inquiry-based learning program fosters a love of learning by empowering students to ask their own questions and explore topics in depth. By integrating the Humanities and Science Curriculum, students develop a comprehensive understanding of the world around them. Through thematic units, students investigate complex ideas, challenge assumptions, and develop critical thinking skills. By presenting their findings and engaging in discussions, students also learn to communicate effectively and collaborate with their peers.
Wellbeing
Our Wellbeing program focuses on building social and emotional resilience through weekly lessons on self-awareness, managing emotions, building positive relationships, and making responsible decisions. The Rights, Resilience, and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) program promotes gender equality and helps students develop respectful relationships.

To ensure students are safe and responsible digital citizens, we offer the DiigiSocial program, which teaches them how to navigate the online world safely and ethically. Our Wellbeing program offers personalised support to help students develop resilience and build positive relationships, catering to their individual needs.
Music and Performing Arts
Our Lady of Lourdes music program focuses on vocal training, helping students develop their singing voice through exercises, vocal techniques, and choir participation. Students learn to sing in tune, with proper breathing, pitch, and expression.

Drama is a powerful medium for self-expression and exploration. Students engage in drama activities that develop their ability to use body language, gestures, and voice to convey emotions, tell stories, and create characters. Students are given numerous opportunities to perform in front of an audience, building confidence, stage presence, and a sense of achievement.

The Performing Arts curriculum encourages students to use their body, gestures, movement, voice, and language to create, rehearse, and perform original works. This process fosters creativity, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of the arts.
At Our Lady of Lourdes, we utilise 'G Suite for Education' to enhance learning across all subjects. Students in Years 2-6 have access to Chromebooks, enabling them to collaborate on projects, access digital resources, and develop essential tech skills. Our curriculum follows the 'Digital Technologies' domain, guiding students to explore online resources safely and responsibly.

Cyber safety is a priority. We offer parent information sessions and teach students to be mindful digital citizens, respecting privacy and using technology ethically. Technology is seamlessly integrated into students' learning experiences, helping them develop problem-solving and technical skills. Activities include robotics, using G Suite tools for project-based learning, and creating podcasts to share knowledge.
Physical Education
Our Physical Education program focuses on developing fundamental motor skills, such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching. Students participate in structured activities that improve coordination, balance, and agility.
Students are introduced to a variety of sports, including basketball, soccer, athletics, and swimming. They learn the rules, techniques, and teamwork required to participate effectively and enjoyably in sports.
We offer opportunities for students to compete in interschool sports programs, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and school pride. These events encourage teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship.
Our curriculum includes education on health and physical fitness, teaching students about the importance of regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We emphasise lifelong fitness habits and personal well-being.
Fine Arts
Our Visual Arts program encourages students to explore the world through various artistic lenses. They experiment with different media, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and digital art, to express their ideas and emotions creatively. Through studying the works of famous artists and craftspeople, students learn about the significance of visual arts in history and culture.

Critical thinking is developed through the evaluation of their own work and that of others. Students apply their knowledge of visual arts to make informed judgments, provide constructive feedback, and appreciate diverse artistic perspectives. Learning in the Visual Arts helps students understand world cultures and their responsibilities as global citizens, encouraging them to consider the broader implications of their creative work.
French
Our French immersion program provides students with daily exposure to the French language, ensuring consistent practice and language development. Lessons are designed to be immersive, engaging students in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in French.
Students participate in 15 minutes of French learning every day, focusing on vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversational skills. This regular practice helps reinforce language acquisition and build confidence in using French.
We encourage students to speak French outside the classroom, creating an environment where the language is used in real-life contexts. This approach helps students become more fluent and comfortable in their language skills, preparing them for further studies or travel
