Physical Education helps students develop
the competencies and beliefs necessary for
incorporating regular physical activity into their lives.
Through involvement in the specialist Physical Education Program,
students can achieve physical and personal benefits.
The development of a child’s fundamental motor skills is
important in many ways. Students whose fundamental motor skills have developed to the level of competence are able to successfully participate in a range of sports and movement activities, and maintain this involvement throughout childhood and adolescence.
Regular participation in sport and movement activities leads to gains in health and physical fitness. How students feel about themselves can also be affected by their physical skills. Students who have well developed fundamental motor skills have been found to perceive themselves as competent, socially accepted and have a positive attitude towards physical activity. This is turn assists in preparing students to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
