Literacy Program

Teachers plan a term by term overview of the curriculum for the Year levels that they teach. Teachers are required to document their daily lessons.
The approach to teaching and learning English includes both whole class teaching, which addresses the needs of the whole group, and small group teaching which focusses on the needs of the students within that group.
Teachers seek to find out as much possible about students’ strengths and weaknesses through assessment, thus establishing starting points for teaching. This information is recorded and is used to drive classroom teaching programs.
An uninterrupted two hour Literacy block is timetabled daily between 9.00 a.m. and 11.00 a.m. Teachers practice is evidence based: effective instructional practices ensure cohesive learning opportunities and measureable student achievement.
Our school also provides a Reading Recovery Program, which is an intensive program designed to assist the literacy of Year 1 students so they can participate fully in classroom activities.
